    It all happened again with Serena yesterday. Three times in the US Open, 2009, 2011 and 2018, that Serena disrespected the umpire or a lineswoman.
    And she's talking about genre discrimination and quoting her daughter... Can't you control yourself and accept your flaws?
    Damn, she's such a prima donna...

      That we can remember because it became news. I'm sure this has happened more times than just those 3. There's no way that she can be this over the top in only 3 cases.

      You notice that of all the majors, it's her favorite one to throw her tantrums? I think it's because she's confident due to the fact that it's being played in her "homeland" haha

    Chair umpire Eva Asderaki is perfectly right.
    International Tennis Federation rules say: "If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponent(s), the player shall win the point."
    Serena screamed as Stosur was reaching for a backhand and this, which according to the rules is forbidden as she can distract the opponent. Stosur defeated clearly Serena, and furthermore, the Chair umpire was right. Too bad for a champion like her, is she a bad loser?

  • @granadina48

    Completely classless. What an unsportsmanlike conduct. Eva Asderaki is one of the best chair umpires there is, and this was completely uncalled for. Williams should've been fined a lot more than 2,000 dollars. I mean, she made around one million dollars at that tournament alone. Ridiculous.

    Did Serena ever apologize to Eva after she saw her obvious infraction on reply later? NO. Strange, cause she is real big on apologies. Oh.... that’s right..... I forgot.... only when it’s people apologizing to her. You see..... Serena is never WRONG.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +3

    The only thing you can be mad about is that the umpires aren't consistent with their decision, once they call a let, the other time they award the point to the opponent. It still doesn't mean that it's within the rules, every single time someone shouts a "come on" in the middle of a rally, they take risk of losing that point.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +2

    So you're telling me that Serena's shout in a middle of a rally wasn't intentional?
    The difference between this clip and Azarenka's constant shrieking is that you are not 100% sure if the shrieking is intentional. That's why you can't call hindrance on that.

  • @yianpap

    You're so right

  • @89Pleasek

    But Serena's shout WAS deliberate - you can't deny that. It isn't some unconditioned reflex that forces Serena to shout out a huge "come on" every time she wins a big point.

  • @89Pleasek

    It's all very subjective, for one viewer Azarenka's shrieks are understandable as she hits the ball hard, for others (you and me included) it's plain annoying and unsportsmanlike. While it goes down to opinion in this matter, Serena's shout of "come on!" before the point was done was a classic case of hindrance.
    I still think that Stosur should be given the point on that occasion as the point wasn't over.
    To be fair with you, I also think that Azarenka's shrieking should be banned immidiately.

    Try to be objective for a minute and tell me where's the flaw in this reasoning:
    1) Serena yells out a "come on" in the middle of a rally. Since the rules are obvious in this case hindrance is called and Serena loses the point. The fact that Stosur touched the ball should confirm this decision.
    2) There's no rule about grunting. therefore you can't ban/fine Azarenka for what she's doing as it's within the rules (or not against them). Azarenka gets away with it
    Blame the rules, not the players

    • @89Pleasek
      @89Pleasek 2 роки тому

      @Normal Misha what exactly is there to think about? grunting isn't banned, period

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    No matter, an actual umpire said that the point should be given to Stosur and this is what we've been discussing for the last 5 hours or so.
    Here's what he said:
    "Absolutely right decision."
    "For quite a while, the WTA had a different, softer policy on hindrances. Usually the player was given the benefit of the doubt the first time. Ni believe they are more in line with ITF now."

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +2

    Yelling "come on" is obviously in the heat of battle but it's still hindrance if the point is not done with which in this case it wasn't.
    I'm not saying shrieking is natural but it CAN be seen as natural by some, that's why it hasn't been banned yet.
    The fact is - Azarenka's and Sharapova's shrieking still has room for interpretation - which means you can't really tell if it's natural or not. While at the same time Serena's shout is a classic case of hindrance with NO ROOM for interpretation.

    • @wonderlandian8465
      @wonderlandian8465 5 років тому +1

      Serena shouted "COME ON" before Stosur even made contact with the ball. Asderaki calling hindrance and gives the point to Stosur as the rules say that she does. Serena gets upset with her.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +4

    Couldn't she wait for another split second, then? I don't want to get involved in a discussion about that so here's what I think:
    The point should be given to Stosur, Serena shouted "come on" too early which COULD (not saying it did) affect Stosur.
    The shrieking in WTA should be taken care of PRONTO cause it's getting out of control. I still don't think it's cheating but it's just plain annoying for the casual viewer.

    • @tomr6955

      Hi 8 year old comment, unfortunately it's still the same, or worse.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    Just because Azarenka doesn't get called out it doesn't mean that everyone should get away with it, especially if there's a CLEAR CASE proving this wrong. (like Serena in this clip).
    The real problem here is not Serena losing the point (as she should've) but Azarenka's (unnaturaly IMO) high pitch shriek which she gets away with. Unfortunately, you can't be 100% sure that it's deliberate as there are other factors to consider, like pressure, stress etc.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +1

    Stop telling me "what I think", I think I know better.
    "If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponent..."
    Stosur definately was hindered in that point (I think she could've at least got the ball back in play if it wasn't for that shout) and Serena's shout was INTENTIONAL - she CHOSE to yell "come on". You didn't answer my question - what if Stosur got the ball back in play as she was relatively close to it?

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    Moreover there are no rules which (at least currently) which can ban shrieking. So unless it becomes unbearable to for the listener (which it's close to), the trend of ignoring the shrieking will continue.
    I don't know how riddiculous it would have to be for the WTA to finally do something about it.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    1. It could've affected Stosur and Serena's shout was intentional, it's not as she hit that forehand, suddenly sprained her ankle and shouted in agony. That was a well-prepared "come on!" from Serena.
    2. Both should be penalized (based on common sense at least) - but since there's no mention about grunting in the tennis rule book, you can't penalize Azarenka. Hindrace, however, is - therefore the umpire was right to give the point to Stosur,
    3. See above.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    So until (if ever...) shrieking will be defined in the tennis rule book, there's nothing one can do about it. Both Azarenka and Sharapova will continue with their policy to shriek the hell out of their throats to intimidate their opponents.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +1

    Btw here's the poll I mentioned just a sec ago:
    tt.tennis-warehouse. com/show thread .php?t=450319
    one of the replies comes from an actual umpire, he says that the point should be give to Stosur

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    There is no way you can classify a hard shouted "COME ON" in a middle of a rally as a grunt.
    Grunting isn't specified in the tennis rule book, there is no rule that says what the dB limit is or there's no mention about the delay between hitting a ball and actually grunting. Hindrance, however IS specified
    "If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponent(s), the player shall win the point"

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +1

    Come on, Serena's yell was intentional. It wasn't supposed to help her win the point but it could still well affect Stosur.
    Based on your logic, each time a player is in a helpless situation he/she should yell a come on so the umpire can call a let and replay the point. How dumb would that be?
    The definition of unintentional in this case was if, say, the racquet slipped out of her hand, she slipped on the court or she started to cramp = there is nothing she could do about it.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    We're discussing facts and facts only.
    I agreed that there has to be something done about the grunts/shrieks. What more do you want me to say?
    Stick with the rules.

    When you are pissed off at something, it will haunt you through the rest of the game. Serena would have won if she didn't get mad. When was the last time any of you won a match while deeply upset inside???

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому +1

    The rules weren't made 5 years ago just to punch Serena in the face. The only reason hindrance is called on Serena is because she's actually the only player who does it, other than an odd accident (see Kirilenko - hindrance was called in a second). It's so easy to blame the community "I'm black so everyone hates you".
    No. Stick to the rules and youll be just fine.
    Another problem is that the rules are bullshit but you can't just ignore them.

      For your information race means everything in America. POC do play by the same rules and get different results. You don't know everything that Serena has gone through in her career and white America didn't like how dominant she became over the years. They chose to root for her at the end of her career. She always had the worse trouble at the US opens. Obvious bad umpires, biased commentators and hating crowds.

    Right call. A player with Serena's experience should have waited a little bit more.
    I am not a huge fan of her, neither I believe in conspiracies.
    However, I do have a feeling that Serena has never had a too favorable umpiring at USO throughout the years. Of course her attitude, tantrums did not help, but for sure she never had any favoritism in her country.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    Your problem is that you throw in shrieking (which can't be defined as hindrance as of yet) and a loud shout of "come on!" in one sack. This is your purely subjective interpretation which has nothing to do with the actual rules.Your whole theory is based on "I'm black so everyone cheats on me" and "the whole world is against me!" so you can't see straight. I'm telling you - shrieking is NOT defined as hindrance because it's impossible to say whether it's intentional or not.

    The tennis authority has delivered a vote of No Confidence in Eva Asderaki. She will be forced to consider her position, to use a very old saying. The penalty of $2000 is derisory and insulting to the referee. To those who follow cricket it's another Darrell Hair incident, the Australian umpire forced out of the game for correctly interpreting the rules. I'm afraid these decisions are now made on the basis of celebrity, not the rules of the game, or indeed sportsmanship.

  • @89Pleasek
    @89Pleasek 11 років тому

    What? Stop putting words in my mouth I never said. I never said that Serena wanted to deliberately hinder he opponent to win that point. She still had to pay the price for breaking the rule.
    You think that if Azarenka can get away with her shrieking, then so should Serena with that call. Neither should get away with it but since hindrance is a STRICKT rule, you can't walk away from the consequences. Since there's no specific definition of a grunt, Azarenka can still get away with it.

    For the last time. Shouting "come on" in the middle of the point is against the rules. Shrieking is not.
    Don't distort the facts so that Serena looks like the victim here. Why did she shout "come on" so early in the first place? And what if Stosur actually got to the ball? Should they continue as if nothing happened?

    then any grunting sounds should cause loss of point. It is maddening to hear tennis opponents grunt with every shot. Much more disturbing than to hear an occasional outburst.

    Azarenka and Sharapova grunt (you can call that a scream if you want) but they don't yell "COME ON!!!" before the point is over. What if Stosur somehow managed to put the ball back in play?
    What Serena did wasn't just a casual shout. And who cares she won the point in the end? The rules are rules and they apply to all races. Funny how only black people seem to find racist everywhere whereas white are more like "dafuq is his problem?".

    Uhm, the people in this comments section, you do know that Eva has been a problematic umpire for men's AND women's tennis for a long time, and she seems to always target the Williams sisters EVERYTIME only difference is because Serena is more passionate and short tempered, it seems like she has bad behavior, but Venus has had many problems with her and is just not as vocal about it.
