    Handy breakdown. Apparently we're in the same hood because I recognized every charger. The new Willow Pass SC is nice to have.

    Thanks, I appreciate the video. I don't use chargers much as I charge at home so this was helpful. Here's some ideas for future videos: how many more chargers are being added; what is the cost of charging in different parts of the country; and how crowded are the chargers. I know these would not be easy to make, but they're ideas. Thanks.

      Thanks for the ideas. I have a video comparing SC rates to home/public if you're interested in that video? I think trying to make a video on how crowded chargers are would be really tough since I can only live in one place at a time. I think there are pockets where SC are definitely more crowded than others.

      Glad it helped. Yeah Tesla hasn't done much in terms of adding more power to SC's. They are focused on pushing out as many V3 stations as they can right now.

      Noticed that too, as well as the West Lebanon NH supercharger. Only was able to distinguish between letters.

    Very helpful info on distinguishing v2/v3. I have an older 2015 p85d and don’t use SC very often so I was curious how to tell them apart (not every station has signs like Kettleman).
    When I bought a model 3, it was clear that the 3 was going to be able to accept more SC charging amperage than my S….I’m dating myself back to an era when “dual charging” was still a term…is there a way to know when my S will really benefit from a v3? I was at one location last week with low SOC and briefly topped 400m/hr charging - but tonight it’s only 160-180 on a 35-40% soc. I thought that v3 overrides the OBC BMS, so I was surprised I was getting something typical of v2 charging.

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  8 місяців тому

      Honestly a 2015 S is pretty old in terms of tech. I'm guessing here, but the battery chemistry is so old that I don't think any software updates will be able to boost charging. It's probably just going to degrade the battery more at that point.
      On your 160-180kW, it's possible that your SOC was high enough that the BMS didn't think it should go any higher. Ambient temp could've also played a part too. There's a lot of factors, so doing 160kW doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.

    I would love to see a charging speed test showing the charging curve between the three chargers from say 10% to 80%. I wonder what a 72 kW Urban charger would cost if a homeowner could buy one?

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  2 роки тому

      I'll put that on the list to possibly do sometime.
      Haha, have no idea. The bigger problem I think is upgrading your home system to be able to handle that power. That would be super expensive, if even possible.

    I have the new tesla with the new battery pack will the v3 still degrade my battery

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  2 роки тому +1

      You mean you have a LFP battery pack? If that's the case, yeah charge away. No more worries about degrading the battery.

    if I pull up next to a tesla to share a V2 supercharger, will I reduce that car's charge rate? Let's say he's charging at 100 kw/hr. From what you said, I would just get whatever is left over until he leaves, right? (ie 50kw, if I can use it). Or does his rate drop down to 75 and mine will be charged at 75 as well? It wasn't clear whether or not the first car using the supercharger maintains their charge rate. Personally I superchargers should never downgrade the rate on someone who showed up first.

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  2 роки тому

      The theory is what I explained. You're going 100kW, the person then plugging in gets 50kW. But from what I've seen, if someone plugs in next to you, your charge rate also drops. How much, I can't say because I think it varies. Basically, don't plug in next to someone at a V2 if you can help it.

      @@nukem384 thanks. Indefinitely got the etiquette part but I just understand how power was being distributed to secondary users.

    • @brianlambert704

      @@scottdang4704I think it works as discussed above - person 2 does tend to degrade person 1 a little - but we’ve always been told person 1 does have some priority…that said, it’s easy yo overstate any sharing impact on v2 chargers bc the Battery Mgmt systems on the OBC can’t charge at full steam except when the SOC is pretty low…the BMS for other rechargeable batteries (like on remote controlled man toys) vary from constant amperage to constant voltage at various SOC so as to keep degradation low. And this is really noticeable if you watch how long the last 10-15% SOC takes…but it almost surely starts lower as well, so person 1, having been there longer and having a decent soc, won’t be pulling as much juice anyway…so in reality, the likelihood two people are both at a point where they want to pull a combined amount above 150kw doesn’t really present a serious issue in most cases ime.

    Helpful, was looking for ways to distinguish V2/V3! However your reasoning for smaller packs not charging at full 250kW is wrong, it's not the packs surface area that limits, its the amount of cells, each cell can only take so much max charge depending on chemistry, age, etc. more cells more power u can charge at.

    Nice, informative video . . . but, without unduly criticizing you, why not say "state of charge" instead of "SOC"? "State of charge" has 3 syllables just like "SOC," so it's no more difficult to say. I could see that in a text. But saying "state of charge" does not make a person stop and think about what you mean. Also, you keep raising your voice, almost like you're asking a question after every phrase. I mean this constructively: It's annoying. Otherwise, good video, good presentation. Thumbs up. 🙂
