  • G'day! In this video, we go for a walk around the acreage whilst I chat about what's been happening. I cover some aspects of acreage living, a quick look at the vegetable garden, growing bananas, watching the ducks swim in our duck pond, and listen to the birds of nature sing! Thanks for all your support! :)

    Not counting the deadly critters you have running around there, you have your own little slice of heaven on earth! Thanks for the bird sounds.

    New comment to an old video. I have been to Oz two times. I can confirm that the forest bird song is unique and like no where else, particularly if there is a kook around. I am lucky as I have a multitude of song birds at my place. So many I don't even know the names of all of them, and their song is beautiful, even the owls trill and hoot at dawn and dusk, but the woods in Oz sounds like no where else.

    That is a nice track, Mark. I'm a village grown boy. If you make it long enough I can turn it on at night and go to sleep. Its sol calm. Its so pity that we live in cities and don't know how a village home sounds like.

    What a good dog. We had a Collie that would never leave the property with the gate open however, we learned to close it because of other untrained dogs coming in. We had to make sure of his safety. You have lovely property.

    I loved the clip of all the noises and the ducks in the pond. I also giggled at your Game of Thrones reference. I couldn't imagine how different it is living in Australia versus America because I'm terrified of lizards and y'all have big ole things out there but it's very beautiful.

    your "unsuccessful" bird recordings were just beautiful, thank you. If you were to put a bench next to your duck pond, it would be a happy place for many bird lovers!! The birds you have frequenting your garden unfortunately are sold over here in huge pet stores, they even come with a credit plan! A cockatoo will go for over € 1ooo, it is very disgusting. You are very lucky to live in a beautiful place such as yours.

    Great video. I love the Vlogs. I feel less guilty watching them, because the slower pace allows me to get chores done while I watch! Make more, if they aren't as taxing for you :-)

    • @Selfsufficientme
      @Selfsufficientme  7 років тому

      Hi Ruth! Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'm also considering creating podcast type videos what would you think about that style where I practically voice over about a subject without relying too much on visuals?

    • @ruthwilliamson862
      @ruthwilliamson862 7 років тому +1

      Great idea! I like the podcast style UA-cam videos a lot. In a way, they are easier to access than "real" podcasts, because the UA-cam app is so simple and easy to access anywhere, and because I know that my subscription list has "safe" content. -Whereas a lot of podcasts have to be accessed through weird websites or independent blogs. So, I think it's a great idea. I am a busy single Mom of four, who also does permaculture gardening, so I rarely have time to just "sit" and watch a video. That doesn't mean I don't do it--but being able to get chores done while listening, and only watching with "half an eye" is such a good thing for me, because I can be learning, while I'm working, and it takes the monotony and loneliness out of working alone. Your approach to gardening is excellent. I originally started watching you because we had quail (no longer have them) but then I realized that your other videos are fantastic, and that you are a stay-at-home parent (like me) who's spouse isn't always around (so you are parenting solo some of the time.) So, I can relate to some of the ways in which you have to approach your tasks and chores. Thanks for being a favorite of mine. I'm in Washington, D.C. So our climates are different, but many things are still the same :-)

    It is interesting, each of us tolerate certain kind of noises. City people can't tolerate a rooster, yet an airplanes and loud music. I agree natural sounds of animals is appeasing. Now aday people are blasting music on street. Bit to much.

    I think the four heelers over the way would be a worry to me, four of them are a pack, and if they get out I think they might head straight for the hen run. One of my enduring childhood memories was when a pack of collies descended on the hens. They all perished except Henny Penny a Rhode Island Red who managed to fly on top of the hen house. My farm dogs are never out unless they are in hand, I know that chicken dinner features in the ambition of one of them. He is obedient, but the way he licks his lips around the hens, leads me to believe, given half a chance he would help himself.

    • @Selfsufficientme
      @Selfsufficientme  7 років тому +1

      Yep it's a bit of a worry alright! Particularly since they don't seem to be able to train dogs...

    • @Selfsufficientme

      Thank you! Jerusalem artichokes can be grown in most climates but if you live in cold climate plant them early after last frosts to get maximum growth before next winter hits - give them a go! :)

      You have a beautiful property. I have 3 acres in Florida and I find that amount of land to be just right. Large enough to do most things but not too big to manage. I am in a small holding subdivision similar to yours where neighbors are near but not right on top of you. This is an excellent arrangement. If there is an emergency you are not far out in the bush with no one near by. You also have pavement right to your property. You have an excellent situation.

      Brend, years ago my neighbors dog rip through 3 chicken wire fences and killed 60 of my chickens. He paid for the loss but I never had chickens again.
