I just bought a new 2017 Spider with an automatic, and I love it...I just want to cruise and enjoy the ride without clutching and shifting...I have several classic VWs an old classic pickup trucks...they all have manual transmissions....that's enough for me....and as for the cupholders, I took them out...you don't need to drink anything at all while you are driving this beauty.
I have one. After 60 days and 1800 miles later. Still LOVE IT! Awesome styling, tight steering, and runs like a top. (Pay no attention to paid "reviews" in Motor Trend and other advertising-based magazines). I think they could sell 10x as many if they'd put MANUAL transmissions in more of them. I only found TWO within a 100 miles without automatic! As far as the cup holders, unless you have REALLY long arms they shouldn't get in your way between the seats. I like that you can move one if you need to. However, you can always put a drink between your legs like the good ol days and take your chances....Drive one and decide for yourself.
Mine arrives in the next couple days.. 1st Fully Optioned Lusso with Stick on the entire west coast of the US.. so far... Meteor Gray / Black ... Love at first test drive in a manual Classica... Selling my Mustang GT for this car... It's THAT Good.... =)

YES, Just got it TONIGHT !! After 15 minutes, getting used to the Clutch and Turbo Lag... I've ACED IT !!... NO REGRETS... Just a Different kinda drive... LOVE IT !!!!!...Went for a LONG Drive, got used to it.. ,... came home, then moved the Mustang GT.. and I was all F'D up... LOVE MY NEW CAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a K&N air filter... Google "Euro Compulsion" great 124 mods.. In the future may get lowering springs, Their wheels in Black, Blow off valve, tune, etc. The KEY to eliminate any Turbo Lag is to make sure your RPM'S are over 2500 before you shift outta first... Just took a 130 mile roundtrip freeway drive into the Arizona Desert at 9pm to go buy Powerball Tickets... Amazing Road Car.. Amazing Bose Stereo once you get it dialed in. Going 75 in 6th gear, punched it, and quickly got up to 110, and it still wanted More !!, handled like a dream... Always been a Mustang GT/Camaro SS kinda guy.. and I'd NEVER get rid of my 124 for one of those again !! Never had such a FUN Car !!!... SO far, I've never driven it with the top up... Open the door, reach in, and the top is down in 2 seconds ... LOVE THIS CAR !! It Really Zooms !!
+Dennis Mattson You have no idea on how much I appreciate your feedback! Especially since I too have been a mustang/camaro type of guy also. So I now know I wasn't crazy for wanting this vehicle!!! I will keep you posted. That's impressive going 75, punching it, going 110 and wants more! Good luck on those lottery tickets.

Does it come with a hard top?
It does not have the option yet. The Mazda Miata (it's mechanical twin) now has a model known as the Miata RF which is available as a hardtop.
Any after market hard tops for the car?
its a sports car .you want hard top buy a saloon.
jason G Apparently they’re on the way in the aftermarket, and Fiat is considering a hard top option for the 2019 / 2020 refresh. The soft top is double-layered for sound insulation.
