I feel like most people don't know the color wheel if ur hair looks green use the opposite color which is red and it will cancel it. If it's yellow use purple so on and so on. Ppl should have learned this in elementary art class
I didn’t have art class, but I still knew this. I kinda thought it was common sense….
@@ssssss17483 seriously like they never wondered why purple shampoo was…purple? Haha
@@ssssss17483 I wasn't calling anyone stupid I just think that most people think things are more difficult than they really are sometimes u just gotta go back to the basics.
I knew this😁
Same for makeup! Red cancels blue under eye … green cancels red acne .. yellow neutralizes … etc
Blue and orange are literally on the opposite sides of the color wheel, so this makes a lot of sense.
Yeah, it's like purple and yellow. The purple Pigment removes the yellow in the blond and leaves a cool, beautiful blonde
@@N1C0991 you have o
Yeah they are complementary that’s why lol 😀
@@NarcissisticD what do i mean
im pretty sure it’s blue and yellow that are complimentary
edit: in RGB or CMYK, blue is complimentary to yellow. just adding that cuz ppl don't understand what im saying
Everybody: *talks about hair*
Me: “Why are they playing music from Elf?”
LMAO
LMAO YEA
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT
Aw dang it, I was gonna say that
I like it cuz it’s awesome 😎
Also the reason why color correctors in makeup work.
And then it’s us they call people of color 🤣
“Cancels” weeelllll, they become a grey because they will desaturate each other
Yeah one colour neutralises the other, thus cancelling it out 💀
@@minnthirteen.6534 yeah, but the title of the video says get rid of brassy hair. She didn't do that lol.
They become either grey or brown, or depends on the mixing ratio. Only commented because another commented “brown” and I just wanted to chime in, not criticize your answer. 🧡
Exactly? What's your point
@@lkm630y79 most people arent looking for grey hair. Its a totally different color
It definitely helps when you switch out the entire orange strand for a brown one.
Watch the tops of the hair tie, and when she cuts
And the root🤣
I noticed too😅😅
Whatever the case, blue does cancel orange. The reason for that is because blue and orange are on the opposite sides of the color spectrum, so no matter if she changed the strand or not, blue and orange would definitelly work when it comes to canceling the color. I hope that helps!😊
It doesnt cancel it it turns green
The root was previously brown because she'd bleached it to show the orange soak into the hair shaft
Any color that falls opposite of the other will cancel
Green cancels red
Blue cancels orange
Purple cancels yellow
The color wheel is an easy way to understand what tone will brighten or cancel another
But beware if hair is damaged cool tones will attach to the damaged hair
Healthy hair holds onto red and yellow
Damaged hair holds onto blue and green
So you must be cautious of the porosity of the hair you’re wanting to adjust
Deep condition and use a porosity equalizer prior to and during color
And apply to mid shaft
Then root
Then porous ends
For even tonality
If you or your client have been bleaching hair it must be tinted back ( cancelled) by at least two levels darker tint than your desired result because your tonal value will fade rapidly
Mild sulfate free shampoo and hydrating conditioner as well as tepid to cool water to discourage fading.
This sample looked great
But it does not include the heat zone and porous ends you’d find on a head of hair.
Also if you aren’t sure of your results
Test strand or custom formulate one small area.
Hair color varies greatly in its effectiveness and some brands have a cooler natural shade than others
Tint backs can be beautiful and fill the hair making it shiny and appear fuller.
But use caution as damaged hair is difficult to predict even results on and this could easily result in a grey dull effect
If you’ve bleached your hair lighter than pale yellow it may not hold color
There is nothing for the artificial color molecule to attach to
If you’re not sure if your hair is too light to hold color
Put a strand in water
If it floats you can gently tint it back w demi colors , even if you want a cool brown you must add a red tonal value back also or hair will appear green
If your hair strand sinks in the water it is too porous to tint and will not hold color
Your best bet at that point is to deep condition heavily and use temporary color, like colored shampoo to add depth back to over bleached hair
Then over time test in water again to see if possible to hold color
True story
Good luck ❤
For anyone who didn't catch it if you watch the top of the hair she switches it out entirely
Exactly !
I dont think she did, it rolled over to face the other side, i think she flipped it to saturate the back And then she just color matched it to the hair because it was half blonde. Also the colors were dye.
it just rolled around
Omgosh ur right 🧐🤔
If you watch the very beginning carefully, you can see that the top of the strand is brown throughout the video
I loved how the hair colour changed from where she was holding it....while doing blue on it 😆
Lighting
She bleached the bottom part to show the colour change and also it helps for knowing where to stop putting colour, genius. You can't show colour on unbleached dark hair, dear freaking god. 🙄
ive seen kind of a similar situation when my sister bleached her hairs tips (its brown) and coloured it blue then once most of the blue faded she coloured it red and when that faded the bits of blue started coming back out lol it was hilarious so then her hair was just peach teal and a weird blondeish hahahah

Who cares? It's their hands and skin, doesn't hurt anyone.
@@TheReducedsodium But it can hurt them, sorry if my comment was a bit offensive.
It doesn't cancel, they just make brown or gray. That hair started off blonde, then went to brown after.
That is what happens when a color is mixed with its opposite which is called “canceling” or “neutralizing” in the hair world. If you wanted to go neutral brown from orange (rather than red brown or warm brown) you would need a blue toned or “cool” brown. Which isn’t straight up blue though. Just has a blue base.
Exactly. They neutralize and cancel each other out. Idk how your comment has so many upvotes.
@@carcarbinx98 because neutralize implies that you're getting rid of the color, not just mixing it together
@@carcarbinx98 Because it doesn't make the orange go away. It just mixes
@@Alien_Cultist No, in hairstyling, that is not what neutralizing means.
Did no one actually notice the top of the hair changed colour to brown? The video cut and jumped to another video and it's completely different hair 😂
Yes, blue and orange cancel each other out, but this video is fake 🤦
The top was always brown..it was just bleached at the bottom
No the top of the hair was brown though out the entire video
Good eyes!! I caught that after seeing your comment. It's subtle enough to trick people!!
Edit: notice it goes from a warmer slightly lighter brown to a darker cooler brown.
the top was indeed always brown but a much diff shade
Wait, what? I made this vid. I don’t have time to create fake content. Sorry
I had blue hair and I used orange hair dye to neutralize it to more of a brownish color.
As soon as it started I screamed “BUDDY!” 💀
yeah when you haven't even let it dry yet 💀
It’ll be green😭 I tried it before
pretty sure the point of this went over ur head
ofc it’s gonna “cancel” it when you wipe it all off lol
So because that was dye
I agree tbh. The paint or dye or whatever didn't even do anything before she wiped it.
She is saying if you have brassy hair that tends to be orangey then use blue shampoo.
No literally. Like it didn't set or anything first
Did you not see the color of the hair before
It's not "cancelling" orange. It's creating a dark brown, maybe even auburn-ish brown color. If it canceled it out would go back to it's original color.
It's simply removing the orange tone from the hair. So it's "canceling" the appearance of orange
Omg yessss. It's not "canceling" anything. That hair went from brassy blonde to muddy brown. All you gotta do is add a little blue/violet and it would have been a crisp ash blonde😭 the lesson here is don't try to "cancel" colors... Neutralize them! 😂
@@ajbarrett1997she’s also advertising this video for blondes as method of getting rid of brassiness, I would be mad if years of getting my hair to level ten would all go to waste because of this lady

We did learn the color wheel, we just didn’t know it worked on hair as well. It doesn’t work for Light, guess we should fall it useless lol
We’ve known this for years
One is additive (light) and the other is subtractive (paints), if you had basic physics you should've been taught about how light blends as well.
@@matildas3177 the color wheel does not work for light. Purple Light does not make Yellow Light White Light. Only the Primary Colors can make white light but it has to be light, not paint or pigment.
@@hera7884 yes... Because of the physics of light... So it makes total sense.
Color is just "light" bouncing off a surface, so when we see something physical, the color we see is just the light wavelengths that didn't get absorbed by the surface. Light doesn't absorb anything.. it can't, so it doesn't follow the same properties as physical matter.
This rule works for anything tangible. Makeup, hair products, painting, etc. It doesn't work for light because of the way the world works.
@@hera7884 mama you completely misread her comment 😩 READ lol
orange: just existing
blue: CANCELED!
People with ginger hair: 😳😭
Why do we hate brassy hair so much, it’s natural and beautiful.
Wow, you’ve discovered the colour wheel and basic complementary colours...
Also it doesn’t “cancel”, it just mixes to a brown grey colour. Same with using purple on yellow, it will just go a greyish tone.
That's what cancelling does. Removes any trace of the original colour to a greyish. Grey isn't a colour.
Don't need to be so aggressive
The color wheel is so fundamental ❤! Complimentary colors cancel well
Every time I swear 😂
That green shade is so beautiful
“blue” puts on orange 😂
✨ Complementary colors✨

Thank you so much
NOOOO- I LITERALLY HAVE MY HAIR ORANGE ON THE ENDS AND I WANTED THEM BLUE SO I JUST PUT BLUE DYE OVER IT- 😭
What does it look like now?
@@laibakausar8161 It went a little bit back to my normal colour but because my hair is dirty blonde it just made it green
Yeah, I can see that, even in this video.
This is basic color theory, so we basically hace 3 primary colors which between them they form secondary colors (when all of these colors are mixed together they create a greyscale color)... When you have yellow and blue you get green, since green already uses two primary colors then the one that is missing would be the one who cancels it, this means that red is complementary to green, same happens with purple and yellow and of course orange and blue. I think this makes it easier to understand than just remembering how negative colors work
Love that you proved this with literal dye not even toner and the tint of hair 💙🧡💛💜

Yup that's called Color Theory and the Color Wheel
Go back to kindergarten and picture yourself in front of the color wheel. Remember that your teacher told you if you mix complimentary colors together, you get brown. That's all that's happening here. 😁
Blue and orange, yellow and purple, and red and green 😁
Primary colors are BYR, and secondary are OPG
This works for anything that isn't light (mixing a green light and a red light, won make white). The physics behind this are cool, but suffice it to say, the color we see is caused by light wavelengths bouncing off the surface of the material. So something that we see as blue, is absorbing all the red and yellow and just giving us full blue vibes. Very cool
Matrix had a brunette system that was a dark green. It worked really well!
U can see they switched the sample hair
K but what's the tea with orange like I gotta know
I wish that art class in elementary schools actually taught you hands on with washable paints how colors worked. Because as a kid I was pretty much just lied to and struggled for ages on my own trying to figure out how to mix the right colors and what amounts to get the color I was looking for. I didn't learn until almost highschool how colors ACTUALLY work with eachother.
Plus I'm no pro hair stylist, but my best friend wants me to do her hair and knowing stuff like this is really useful when it comes to helping yourself and others. Learning a refined skill makes you seem distinguished, oooohhh fancy 💪🤣

I like how she didn’t wait for the orange to go in😂
Yes! This is why when you bleach your hair, the toner that's used to get rid of the coppery colour is blue or purple!
Orange: exists
Blue: *you’re canceled* 👺
Honestly find the color theory super interesting.
Reminds me of the trending purple toothpaste. I'm sure it can and will be applied to other aspects of our lives as well at some point. And when it does, im gonna wish I was that person to find or figure it out lol 😂
A lot goes into this though. When I tried bleaching my hair, at one point it came out orange. Which is normal of course. I tried blue shampoo, didn’t do anything. The really pigmented kind. So then I got blue dye. My hair turned blue. Not brown. So then I had to just dye my hair black because my job would t allow the color.
When bleaching dark hair it will go through the levels of lightening and the red molecule over the yellow will make the hair orange.
You may have let your bleach get too dry or not used a high enough level of developer
Twenty vol lightens two levels
30 vol lightens three and fourth vol lightens four levels .
If you find your hair is orange, test the strength and elasticity , tug on hair , if it stretches or breaks you cannot continue to lighten without breakage.
If your hair is still healthy enough to continue lightening apply half inch from scalp then apply to root area then the porous ends.
Remember if your bleach is blue it will make hair appear lighter
So rinse off bleach in a strand, rough dry it and check lightness level
The red gold or orange is the hardest to remove from the hair, so keep bleach damp
Hair seperated so it can oxidize and continue til you achieve a pale yellow tone, then shampoo out bleach and if so desired you can use a toner( light translucent shade) to adjust the tone of your blonde
Generally purple or iridescent toner will make hair lose bradsinrss.
Beware that bleaching the hair removes its strength and so hair is fragile
Be very gentle and use cool or tepid water to cleanse and condition💕
I was so confused before I heard the second part 😂
I just heard blue and saw orange
Omg ..🔥🔥🔥.. This is a fire
Me going "nooo with all that blue is just gonna turn black" then it PROCEDES TO DO SO
Cool! Smart hairdresser

Wow!! Awesome
Y was that such a prettt color at the end tho
color theory is nuts man. like it makes sense being opposites on the wheel but also it feels like it's magic and shouldn't work lmao
This works for any strong contrasting colors!
Mixing complementary colors will do that.
If there's anyone here who doesn't know what a complimentary color is, go stare at a color wheel. Whatever is directly across from a color is what cancels it out.
That’s so satisfying I’m fascinating
