One year had passed after this memorable gathering of young people from the four corners of the earth but the memory is still fresh and vivid to my heart and my mind especially during the vigil with pope, we were tormented by storm, yet like the theme firm in the faith we braved the storm....I was there, i was like a drop in the sea of humanity! Long live the Pope!

My memories are of absurd overcrowding, chaotic organisation, dangerous heat and an unbelievably tacky/trite/'fast-food' version of the Faith. It was hard to imagine much of it impressing a young person with the truth of Christ; rather, in the face of the cynical 'tourist' focus of the whole thing (in the end, it gets billed as an economic boost for the host country, demonstrating the power of the 'Catholic dollar') the opposite seemed more plausible. Many of us were frankly disgusted at the cheapness of it all. But then, on that night in the airfield, a spectacular summer storm hit. The dry heat was suddenly replaced by a theophony of wind, water and thunder. All the superficial insult and empty noise of the event was swept away and silenced in that brief yet memorable display of God's great power and anger. The ugly pop music was drowned out, the 'entertainers' scurried away and the many huge flags of the world and other pathetic symbols of mere nationhood were lowered as nature itself commanded us to be quiet and pray. God is silent in this age. Though he has not abandoned us, but he is not exactly pleased either.
