In this video, we are going to draw an M6 hex bolt.
Learning to draw this will enable you to draw hex bolts other than M6.
Based on www.A.C.C.U, the M6 hex bolt has a major diameter of 6 millimeters and a thread pitch of 1 millimeter.
We will start by drawing the thread. I will set the limits to zero-zero by fifty-fifty to give us enough space.
First, draw a horizontal line equivalent to the thread pitch. For the M6, the thread pitch is 1 mm. Please refer to www.A.C.C.U for other bolt sizes.
You can pause and slow down the video to follow the sequence of commands I use.
Here is a simple guide to get the thread measurements.
Given P, equivalent to 1 millimeter, we can easily compute the crest and root of the thread.
The crest is equal to P over 8, and the root is P over 4.
The 60-degree angle is constant for all hex bolts.
Here is a simple guide to get the thread, nominal, and grip length measurements.
Given the MD or major diameter, equivalent to 6 millimeters, we can assign the nominal length and thread length depending on its use.
For the nominal length, I've set it to 5 times the MD, getting 30 millimeters.
I've set the thread length and the grip length to half of the nominal length, which is 15 millimeters each.
The 75-degree angle is constant for all rolled thread hex bolts.
Here is a simple guide to get the head measurements.
For M6, the given major diameter is 6 millimeters and the thread pitch is 1 mm.
WAF, or width across flats, is equal to five-thirds times the major diameter, which equals 10 millimeters.
HH, or head height, is equal to 0.6 times the major diameter, which equals 3.6 millimeters.
ROF, or radius of fillet, is equal to 0.6 times the thread pitch, which equals 0.6 millimeters.
The 30-degree angle is constant for all rolled thread hex bolts.
