The lock thing is for health and safety. In case of emergency, locks can become hindrances, it blocks access kase to rooms where help might be needed. Most family member knocks on their doors if they want to enter. There is a lock for the bathrooms for privacy but it can still be unlock using a 2p coin, during emergency.
