A sensational site, score the schorl, Chris and Gadzee! Lovely technique, (the old gem guy on "Aussie Gem Hunters" does the same with big but ugly sapphires, whack!, with usable excellent parts within) by Gadzee to liberate the two fingers of crystal that look like a... chubby boomerang! Yes, you can share that, uncredited, please! As you say, it's quality that's rare, although there's a time for a really cashed-up Goth revival, with an emphasis on black jewellery perhaps. Eloisa, you can please her, with a chest shawl, of sparkly schorl, she'll like it, and so will you! It's a schorl thing.
We've been awaiting this storm to hit from Geelong last three hours, slow moving ones can have quite dangerous features. You stay safe, happy, and prosperising yourself and many others! 👍🥃

The colours of the ‘’schorl species’’ of tourmaline are brownish-black to black and also the most common species of tourmaline is ‘schorl’ which may account for about 95% or more of all tourmaline found in nature (the two other species of tourmaline are ‘’dravite species’’ comes in dark yellow and the ‘’elbaite species’’ comes in red, blue, green, and colourless). The early history of this mineral shows that the name ‘schorl’ was in use prior to 1400 because a village called Zschorlau in the state of Saxony, Germany was then named ‘Schorl’ and this village had a nearby tin mine where in addition to cassiterite also ‘black tourmaline’ was found. The first description of ‘schorl’ with the name ‘schürl’ and its occurrence in various tin mines in the Ore Mountains. Up to about 1600 additional names used in the German language were ‘Schurel’, ‘Schörle’ and ‘Schurl’. Beginning in the 1700’s the name ‘Schörl’ was mainly used in the German. In English the names ‘shorl’ and ‘shirl’ were used in the 1700’s. In the 1800’s the names ‘common schorl’, schörl, ‘schorl’, and ‘iron tourmaline’ were the English words used to describe this mineral.
~Yes you are correct that this C is silent in the German language but the R is not silent in both the German language and the English language, ‘schorl’ is not pronounced ‘shawl’ like you said, but rather instead ‘schorl’ is properly pronounced as ‘shoRL’ (the exact same as in giRL, woRLd, caRL, and moRLey), which is a derivative of the original German word Zschorlau (a village in Germany where tourmaline was found).

Can you dissolve the host rock around the crystals to get the tourmaline clusters out that are not in vugs? Since quartz forms from liquid, it seems unless the tourmaline forms after the quartz stops changing the void around them will usually fill in.

@@VoGusProspecting crazing is super fine cracks in the crystal caused by heat pressure and or weathering but can also happen as the crystal forms it makes the crystal brittle unless while forming it sometimes has fibrous members that keep the crystal together and sometimes it happens at points where the crystal stops growing then grows again forming what looks like a crack but it’s solid if that makes sense….
