Another simple quick fix that makes a huge difference is making sure the skimmer weir gates are present and in good working order. It's a common enough problem that I always keep 2 or 3 on my truck. It's also one of the first things I look at when starting up a new weekly service customer. If the gate is missing, or it is no longer buoyant, the skimmer won't draw floating debris into it. All the debris that would otherwise be drawn into the skimmer ends up on the bottom of the pool. I actually installed one at a friend's pool party yesterday, just checked the skimmer as a creature of habit! They retail for about $15-$20. Your videos are such a great resource of information for DIY and pool pros alike. Thanks!
Steve, I just want to thank you for all the helpful advice your channel provides this pool owner. My wife and I have been struggling with green algae the past few years, your channel has educated us to point that we now have a headache free pool! Crystal clear water since opening the pool in early May! Thank you so much!
Yes Vulkem 116 , is used in some masonry applications.(ie: chimneys meeting wet ground , wet roof flashing , even to replace expansion/control joints in flatwork. Its not toolable, you can try but once placed its gonna remain. Good stuff though , never thought about pool applications. Thank you again steve, for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciation from us in the field .
Steve, Going a bit off-topic here. My apologies. I figured I'd reach out to you here since it's your most recent video. I respect your opinions and knowledge above all else. I was using an experienced technician in my area (Northern California). He recently sold his route to a much less experienced technician. (I like him, but I know more than he does.) I live in a remote area, and it's very difficult to get people to come out here. I've received a quote from a larger company for less money. I like supporting the little guy, but I'm torn. I could do it myself, but I did that for 15 years and don't want to anymore. Any advice on what to do?
They are still copper plated. Unless severely damaged, they should resist the pool environment just fine. Also, zinc is one of the things they plate nails and screws with to make them corrosion resistant.
Can you do a video on those rotating vortex skimmer basket replacements? Any good?
Great information, as always 👍
Love these videos! I learn so much.

Hey that is great news! There is always a reason for the algae...you just have to go looking for it!

It is perfect. These are small parts most companies and technicians neglect.
Sometimes you just need a quick fix! Thanks for commenting!
Very useful, thank you

So Vulkem 116 will work under water better? What about Boss 802 Clear Pro Grade Silicone? which one you think is better to fix a crack under water?
