What is amazing is that they are playing this live with no prerecorded tracks. These folks are really talented musicians. The real deal.
Musicians played live for thousands of before 'prerecorded tracks' existed.
The flute solo goes insane 🔥
I love how hard this band rocks even without a guitar. Massive amount of talent on that one stage.
They were the first band at Woodstock 1969!! One of my favorites
I and my husband moved into a commune in 1969 in Colmar PA. First time we walked in the door Motherless Child was playing. I was 22 years old (i am 71 now); my mother died when I was 1 1/2 years old. I felt so at home. I love Sweetwater from that day on. Kathy Neville.
What a sweet story. Wow. Also - I'm really interested in your commune experience. Would you correspond with me about it?
😘 🥰 🥰
Nansi Nevins, my second cousin! I hope, with all my heart, she is doing fine.
Great stuff - listening to this for the first time, in the UK. Bet those hippies never imagined their music would still be reaching a worldwide audience in 2023? Wonderful.
Don't matter how old you are and weather you lived thru the 60's, good tunes is good tunes
is one of the most beautiful comments I have read and admired
DAM!!!!!! It doesn't get any better!!!! What a song, what a performance, what a generation!!!! LU!!!!!!!!!!!
"Sweetwater were a psych/folk/rock band from L.A. California. They were the act scheduled to open the Woodstock festival in 1969 but were stuck in traffic, so the Richie Havens's trio was the first act to perform but Sweetwater was eventually flown in by helicopter and performed next. The group reunited for Woodstock '94 with three original members & in 1999, the band's story was depicted in a VH1 TV-movie Sweetwater: A True Rock Story. Actress Amy Jo Johnson portrayed singer Nansi Nevins and former Mamas & The Papas singer Michelle Phillips portrayed the older Nansi."
This song needs to be heard by everyone! Fits today perfectly. Have to see the VH1 movie on Nancy that came out in 99 ✌
I wish they would have played a whole setlist to hear this band live in good quality
When I was a senior in high school my band “who’s the father” opened for them at the UNLV student union ballroom in Las Vegas they were extremely generous and kind to us
You actually now find the footage of there set at Woodstock. That was never included in the original film
but you can sure see the magic of that band whenever they played
Sweetwater was supposed to go on first at Woodstock, but were stuck in traffic. Richie Havens was backstage and was asked to go on first. The promoters hired helicopters to ferry all the bands to the concert and Sweetwater went on second.
The vocal blends on this are A+.
Timeless message!
Hugh tries to be a perv, but Nanci handles him with class.
great video Thanks for Sharing !
Classic late 60's music, I found this album the other day and it is awesome!.
i was just browsing and all of a sudden i see my Uncle Pete on the bongos. :D
A-hum. MY uncle Pete 😡 😡 😂
Thank God for the VH1 special a few years ago! Yes it's how I discovered them, don't give me crap please! (I now know how teenagers feel...jeeze.) and yes I'm only in my 20's. Good evening anyways
after the movie, the tour
was just amazing, drive from Cal. to Chicago to help with instruments priceless!
Sensational
Lol, I sing to them..she is amazing..wow..I would luv to hear her now..wonder if she is doing any music these days..
Thanks for posting this, Just popped in my head and bam there it is. 43 years later and the song still true today. :(
I LOVE NANSI NEVINS!! Hardly a day goes by that I don't play one of her tracks. What a voice! She even answered an email of mine when I inquired about some lyrics. This is great music! (Hef and Barbi aren't bad either!!)
Nancy was in a near fatal car accident in December of 69 permanently destroying one of her vocal chords. She took 12 years of vocal coaching to get her other vocal chord up working properly again. She sings again, albeit with a cool raspy sound
Rhianna Barr such a shame her voice was so beautiful, she's probably still a beautiful soul though
Rhianna Barr I didn't know that-or i forgot it. She had such a great voice. She sounds a lot like Grace Slick with The Jefferson Airplane , not bad company
I've always thought the same thing about sounding like Grace Slick.
@@CandyBandit1296 @DannyCanes - she sounds more the Great Society version of Grace Slick. Pre-Jefferson Airplane.
A-hum ! Gracie Slick sounds like Nancy Nivens !!!!!!!!! 😠 😡 😠
Yes what a gift this is! thankyou!
That bass player is going NUTS!
Nice to meet you today !! After watching this I know why we connected today!! ❤
Thanks to VH1 they introduced me to this wonderful band. I bought one of their cd's love it
Still love their Crystal Spider!
This song needs to be heard...Period. Wish the volume was louder.
Awesome performance. Thanks for posting this.
Love 💝 the sixties
Barbi Benton, standing with Hugh at the very beginning of video, would go on to cut records too. Also a regular member of Hee Haw.
Nancy puts the sweet in sweetwater.
I sing to them...
I think they performed at Woodstock in August of 1969...🤔🤔🤔🤔😎😎😎
the cat on flute and vox has a slight Dave Brown of Santana vibe in his looks...and apparel....
If Memory serves me correctly The Group DID appear at Woodstock but was NOT shown in the Movie.. Shades of Jefferson Airplane can be heard here..
Thank you so much for this rare video!! I just adore the band!! =']
✌
Sounds a little like the original cast recording of "Hair"... ✌️ ☮️
I loved this movie and saw the premier the night on vh1... Man she could sing her ass off, dude in the movie had it right, no doubt a Grace Slick, Janis Joplin albeit the latter cut short also but she would be the one
One day you are opening Woodstock and appearing on television shows and the next day a drunk driver destroys your career just it was heating up. Life doles out cruelty arbitrarily. Grace Slick was born wealthy and never had to work a real job in her life and did pretty much whatever she wanted to do and poor Nansi, who could sing at least as good as Grace, got the shaft. Life sucks more than it doesn't.
How about those Acoustic Amps
I sing to them lol classy
You Know What? If they're still around, they Should Reform! They have Plenty To Sing About Right Now! 🤔
I sing to them 😂
Nancy Nevis is a good lead singer for Sweetwater. I get the Grace Slick comparisons, alright…
too fast
Hugh Hefner?
Indeed. And, also Barbi Benton.
why played it fast? less chillin
