Awesome task to end an awesome competition... Massive thanks to everyone who contributed to making it what it became, including SP himself for making 25 awesome compilations (and being admin in the early part of the comp!)
Looking forward to 2019 now - everyone should subscribe to MKDasher, as he will be making the compilations then... Let's see if the comp can get even bigger!!

Quick question: if Nintendo set a limit on Mario’s forward speed, then why does he permanently gain speed when he does wall kicks?
The speed limit only works when Mario is walking, it is possible to build up speed by travelling forward in midair (it's not the wks that give speed). This is also how Pedro spots work.

Is it just me or are the rules too restrictive to create variety of strategies?
Each restriction is there to increase variety, since the high speed glitches would make every run just "set up then teleport 5 times" and the enemy interaction clause is just standard
What Tj said is correct - the no-C^ & no-BLJ rules for example were to rule out strategies which would completely dominate & kill variety. Some rules such as no-enemies are used as enemy interactions can be very tedious to optimise (because they are RNG-based) & make the task overall much less fun to enter

There is a glitch in SM64 that breaks the game. Ok, so get the cheat "Walk on lava", then, go to Lethal Lava Land and go to where the log is. There is a BLJ spot on the log that can crash the game, when looking at the log from the angle where you can also see the bullies on the other side of the map where the Bully the bullies star is, go to the right of the log and peform a BLJ. Once you get to around 900+ speed, move really fast, making sure you pass through a lot of walls especially the warp zone to the volcano. Once you go through the volcano, a few seconds later, your game will crash. This is because the game thinks you have entered the warp zone for the volcano, when you actually haven't. So the game doesn't know where to place you and what to do about it, so the game just crashes.

Pressing C^ to enter first-person view while moving normally causes Mario to slide to a stop, but if he ends up on the correct kind of slope, he will gain speed without bounds until he leaves the surface. Mario can build up an awful lot of speed this way (see sm64expert's winning entry in task 17 for example, which uses this trick)
