    One Question:
    6:36 I used the GroupExpression node for both the Top and Bottom Seams by adding another element to the array and using this expression:
    "@P.y==getbbox_min(0).y && @P.z==getbbox_min(0).z"
    My question is that why did you use the group by range node for the bottom groups? is there something down the line that messes up if you don't use the group by range node or is it just a preference?
    I could've done it in the same expression by adding the or Operator (||) after the top group expression but thought new element would be cleaner.

      Ahhh....its just what I ended up doing. Your way sounds good to me! I dont believe it would mess anything up downstream. Thats the awesome thing about Houdini, tons of different ways to put these procedural models together. I like your approach!

    Hello, thanks for sharing this knowledge. One question; is ther a way that houdini looks in the first node before an other? Example: When i want to make a preset to centroid the gizmo from a mirrornode. Normally is type centroid("../xx", D_X) and so on. But can i write it so, that it looks automatically on the node before. Because only then i can make a preset that works always without typing the exact node wich is before, because this node has always a other name. I hope i could explain what i mean.

    • @IndiePixel3D
      @IndiePixel3D  Рік тому

      Howdy Mike! Yeah you can do that if you put a 0 in...rather than ../ . That means it will use the previous node.

      @@Mr.T_Official yeah, I would still watch it cause we use the indie-pixel tool to create the project folders. So you'll want to create those folders. The tool itself just creates the folders for you.

    I know this isn’t really a Quixel Mixer tutorial, but I would have appreciated a bit more detail on the setup. I can’t get the applied textures to display correctly- it seems like the scale of the mesh isn’t right and things like displacement maps are scaled far too big. But then when I increase the scale of the mesh to get the Quixel textures to work, the AO texture from Houdini tiles too many times.

    • @IndiePixel3D
      @IndiePixel3D  3 роки тому

      No prob..in order to get the AOL to tile correctly, go into that layers placement modifier and change the tiling to 1. I'll be doing a step by step mixer setup in the next prop tutorial.

    I don't really understand UV's I suppose. When you show the UV's but seemingly the model is outside the UV grid, doesn't that mean it isn't accessible by the textures/painter (for example, the 11:10 mark)? Doesn't everything need to be in the grid? Great videos btw, though I only got 12 min through this one so far.

    • @ideallyyours
      @ideallyyours 3 роки тому +1

      The UV grid is only a guide to show how the texture is mapped onto geometry. If geometry extends past the edges, you can read it as though the texture is tiled infinitely across both U and V, so geometry that extends past the right edge would use the texture on the left side.

    • @KZLR
      @KZLR 3 роки тому

      @@ideallyyours I see, so if it extends below then ...it uses the texture at the top? I'm so confused.

    • @ideallyyours
      @ideallyyours 3 роки тому +1

      @@KZLR That is correct. Generally you want to make sure things fit into the square so that you don't have to think about wraparound - but when you texture larger scale objects like building walls, usually you'll be using seamless textures so that the edges line up well.

    • @KZLR
      @KZLR 3 роки тому +1

      @@ideallyyours That is great to know, thank you. UV's is one of those topics I suspect isn't nearly as obtuse as I think of it, and I'd like to learn more about.
