This is mind blowing! Makes remembering days of the week in European languages much easier. This trend is also present in Indo-European languages such as Bengali and Hindi.
👍 Thanks alot for this interesting vid ! Your explanation also allow to understand the modification of our languages during periods of time, thus making linguistics an attractive science too ! 😃 And, by the way, your french is perfect 😁👍👍👍
I don't know if its coincidence or not, but in most of Indian languages(major 22 languages) day of weeks are pronounce similarly. And these names are derived from Sanskrit language(quite older the any European languages). The thing is, known star and planets in that time are named by Indian god's name and its in same order.
An echo from a highly sophisticated civilization, able to map out the solar system (and navigate the world), disappearing into the mysts of ancient antiquity.
the more intersting question is how did these seperate. cultures all agree to name the days of the week in the exact same order. sun, moon, plantes in order moving away from the sun... a crazy person might feel the days of the week were named after the manner and in the order they were created. but a deeper look into the names of the days and months and planets from cultures that predated the greeks, itialians, or norse by a 1000 years or twice that... could lead one to believe well... the same thing... or a good study of Genesis chap one...

So to stay consistent with the norse pantheon we shouldn't call saturday, saturday but instead call it Crodosday after Crodo the norse equivalent of saturn.
No idea if this is in your realm but I’ve been curious, What do people mean by “the universe is expanding” if it is mostly vacuum with things sprinkled in between? Or more wordy, what is the difference between nothingness and a vacuum
@Sovereign Soul Because when the calendar was invented thousands of years ago, they didn't actually know in what order the planets orbited the Sun. They didn't even know that the planets orbited the Sun at all.

Maybe this means that naming the days of the week to the planets, moon and sun is something extremely old. Older than written history.

@schweiza87 your right. We are a species with amnesia 🫤
And in Portuguese, they don't use any planet to call. Monday is Segunda-feira, means second fair day. Friday is Sexta-feira, means sixth fair day.
The 6000 year old book called surya sidhdhant tells you why these days are ordered this way.

Why did you miss out the şu day explanation for english/norse
What's the şu day explanation?
@@ItsJustAstronomical sunday
Because Sunday is self-explanatory. It is "Sun day". While the planets were named after the Roman / Norse gods, the Sun is pretty straightforward.
@@ItsJustAstronomical yeah, wasnt thinking. Thanks though.
Cool!

It's expanding in the sense that the things sprinkled in between (the galaxies) are moving away from each other and getting farther apart.

Certainly, planets were well known before the Romans, but you have to talk about Romans to explain the word origin.
