I think it would be way cooler if they were to do a halo series with other Spartans. That way they could still use the lore of the games while also introducing new characters. Like what Star Wars did with the Mandalorian
Yeah, the fact they’re doing their own retcon in their “own little universe” feels extremely off putting and disrespectful. Additionally, why race bend beloved characters like Keys when you could just make brand new characters of your own? The show has a lot of red flags for me

I honestly can’t see anything great coming from this series. Focussing only on The Master Chief just limits possibilities of new adventures and new (or returning) characters to invest in.

If they do some type of, any form of Giving way too many characters fake deaths (I'm looking at you stranger things) I'm going to be very mad like what's a halo story without sacrifice and yes halo infinite whilst I don't want to spoil anything, I would still count many things about sacrifice without spoiling the game. Please please have a noteworthy character die in some way

@@shadosnake But... Johnson.... he's awesome.... Commander Keyes was cooler than some nerd scientist. She held her own against Arbiter for a short time (Like yeah, he knocked her out, but she lasted waaay longer than most would've against Thel.)
I hope it being non-canon isn't just a copout to absolve themselves of responsibility of just trashing the story. For a Halo story to work it MUST play by the rules of Halo. Halo Reach was devastating for the canon, but it actually did follow basic rules about how the Halo universe works, so virtually everybody was able to suspend their disbelief about dates and enjoy it. But if this show messes with crucial story beats it WILL alienate viewers.
Don't be so dramatic. Reach did go off the rails but not to the extend you imply. All those issues were fixed more or less with Retcons later on anyway.
@@2shae475 If you have to do retcons to 'fix' an addition, than you shouldn't have added it in the first place. It would not have been too hard to have done a 'Halo: Reach' that followed the prior established events instead of trying to create a new story from whole cloth. This is saying nothing about the actual flaws in the story itself, as opposed to just the framing and it's inherent breaching of prior canon.

I mean the IMDB page has some hints, no Johnson but there's Stacker, Cpt Keyes will be black ( taking out a canon character of color (Johnson) and swapping another (Keyes) to make up for it I guess?), and according to leaks Cmdr Keyes will be both a doctor and soldier; which kinda is the opposite of her character considering she hates Halsey but worships her father in canon

Personally I'm glad this show is not canon. It allows the show to be more free to do whatever it wants without ruining the continuity of Halo. I just hope the story is good though.

Sorry but, the show being non-canon just kills it to me. There's decades of story potential before the games with Master Chief and Keyes alone. Having them interact with a new and original set of characters and fan favorites would have made something special. As it is, it will just be a glorified 'what if' scenario that would not feel any different to the canon story, given the material they have to work with.
When Bungie couldn’t even keep track of every little detail from the books, do you really expect our modern entertainment industry to NOT fuck up the canon? People are going to have strokes if so much as a single date is wrong; why would I want to witness a continuity shattering clusterfuck that could have long-standing repercussions for the rest of the franchise? Watching other fanboys writhe in agony would only be slightly amusing in that scenario…
Im fine with it since I've played these campaigns at least 10 times. So it would be pretty boring if we got the stuff that i read from in the games and books. I just hope that it'll be a rendition of something we know with something new
Halo is a story so vast and sacred that one tiny mistake in the script can mess up the entire timeline, and I doubt the director or screenwriters know every single detail in every single book and game that has ever existed in the Halo universe. Not even the developers themselves could keep up with it. Having the show non-canon gives a lot more breathing room for creativity and error without ruining anything that happened in the games. An example would be The Last Airbender series. The movie was garbage, but since it's non-canon, we can forget it ever happened. Korra's story wasn't the greatest either, but we can't ignore that since it's officially tied to the original show, and if the writers wish to make another "book" in the future, they have to revolve it around that story.
It’s not a big deal imo. They do the same thing with Marvel/DC films and the comics being the source material. Different mediums of entertainment call for directional changes in story telling. So I think as long as the story isn’t too far from the original source material, and is well written…I call that a win in my book!

I don't understand why video game movies always seek to be a retelling and not just an addition. The Halo universe is vast, why not tell a small contained story about another team of Spartan 2s or 3s. John isn't the only Spartan in the universe.
People get really fickle about how a film or tv series adaptation handles lore because producers and directors can fuck things up if they decide to do too much of their own take on the world and lore of a story, I think people are tired of it happening, but I'd rather there be some kind of attempt than not doing anything at all.
Because producers and script writers dont like to read and its easier to just use a popular recognizable character for a quick cashgrab
Given the showrunner said this show would probably piss off Halo fans, granted it doesn't take much, it's gonna be a hard pass from me since it sounds like they're doing it on purpose. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised and have it actually be good though.

What about a show that shows the relationship of John with the members of blue team? That would actually be cool, and have good opportunities to weave in with the video game’s storyline.

I hope with the seperate canoms between the two halo universes have a similar structure to how the MCU And Comic universe works, it would be a great way to show the differences yet similar events, story, fundamentals etc that would make it work perfectly. That would be interesting to see play out.
I’m a little worried about Spielberg being involved, he hasn’t really been living up to his name in recent years. Let’s hope they treated Halo with the respect it deserves

@@robertogonzalez1907 yeah he had great stuff prior to the 2000s and even 2010s, but considering his recent works have been less than good, and the absolute shitshow Sound of Music was, he’s just declined so much (becoming more and more woke probably hasn’t helped either)

go look up the listing on IMDB it looks like theyve changed alot of the characters, example, miranda is now Dr. Miranda Keyes. None of blue team appears to be in the show, just new made up spartans. im not really holding my breath on this show

I'm not against diversity but they shouldn't make changes to the lore based on race.
If they wanna have diversity, ok then...put Sergeant Johnson in the show. Of the most fan loved halo characters.
And give him a daughter. I don't remember if Johnson had any kids in the lore but that would be a small change I'd be ok with.

As far as a human living with the covenant I can actually understand that. Humans are the only ones capable of activating the halo's so ot makes sense that the prophets would have one available.
I can see the prophets keeping one in secret from the rest of the covenant while brainwashing them to believe the covenant religion is real.
Does it matter? Keyes's race doesn't define his character lol

"protect the lore" also brings back three dead characters with chief in his new armor

I heard rumours that the Covenant wanted to herd Humanity like cattle, Captain Keyes had a race change, the main enemies were humans who sided with the Covenant, Halsey and Keyes were in a romantic relationship, Amanda Keyes was this 16 year old prodigy who could do everything.
Long story short, I heard a bunch of rumours which made it seem like a woke take from someone who has no idea what Halo is... looking forward to it probably being bad, and 343i attacking the fans.
In the real canon they did have an affair

humans actually did side with Covenant in the books. The Insurrectionists allied with the Jackals and had entire PLANETS of mixed population.
Not someone who sided with the covenant... someone... who was raised by covenant elites... the shows gonna suck

I’m kind of happy and sad that it’s not cannon, happy because if this becomes a flop than it won’t ruin anything, but sad because then there won’t be any true new content for halo.

I think this is a blessing in disguise but only if certain factors or checkmarks are accounted for, otherwise this will fall apart.
putting the controversies aside, this is a blank slate that can raise lots of opportunities if they play their cards right.
What if the UNSC didn't lose Reach?
What if Operation: Red Flag was carried out?
What if the Halo rings weren't found until much later?
What if Reach was lost as in the OG timeline, Noble team or some members manage to escape the doomed planet?
What if the Covenant found Earth much earlier?
What if the Great Schism didn't happen? (or not until the Ark was found)
What if the Flood was released much earlier in the war (not counting Halo Wars)
There's a fuckton of planets on the Halo universe (800 human colonies if I am not mistaken) and all of them were either abandoned or destroyed. All with their own battles and tragedies. Millions of soldiers fighting a genocidal Empire whose stories are unknown.
They (Paramount) must be a really stupid to screw something like that up. Hell they could have saved themselves trouble and just adapted
Halo: The Cole Protocol directly without going through the trouble of writing a whole new story up.
Don’t forget there will be un needed race swaps and identity politics inserted into our beloved series.

Finally, after years of waiting it's finally fuckin happening.
I see a lot of people complaining about it "not being canon", so I'm assuming everyone just forgot about Halo Legends, one of the, if not the best movie/series about halo we've ever gotten... and it wasn't canon. I think it's always cool to explore the possibilities beyond what the "rules" of our world allow us, so let's just hope they use this "lack of boundaries" as a tool and not as an excuse.

When I heard Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg are involved, I immediately have my hopes up from 5% to 40%. I cannot lie, both made great movies (Lord of The Rings, Jurassic Park, etc.) but at the same time, some bad ones (Ready Player One, The Hobbit, Mortal Engines, and more). It's a 50-50 for me.

They should not be fighting covenant. It should be all about chief's backstory, the other spartan's backstorys and all the training/missions up to the fall of Reach.
I swear the only people I think that could handle sarge would be a younger Samuel L jackson, Terry crews, Actually fuck it if rock when back to his old school style of comedy he'd fit it really fucking well too ( I have no idea who they cast as johnson, but it's as important as chief is to me lol)

Y'all this show has covie elites who took in a human kiddo. Elites. the most loyal to the Great Journey and the Prophets... ...going against their own doctrine because...? They literally believed we were a plague on the galaxy. Post war, allied elites? It's not completely impossible. Say Mr. Wort is guilt stricken, blah blah blah, saves baby yoda 2.0. Cheesy as heck, but doesn't break the lore completely and attracts causal viewers. Use it as a way to explore what the immediate post-war mindset was for some allied elites. This is something i've wanted to see explored for some time in a more mainstream form. The games depict them as Super Honor Bros (tm), and for the most part (with the exception of Arbiter, we know he had guilt). A bit gushy and still cheesy as heck, but it wouldn't nuke the lore. Plus I'm a sucker for the trope. I wouldn't completely hate it if it followed the lore...
Looks pretty cool, but it sucks that it’s not canon. For me it just less immersive when it’s not canon, and it means what’s in the show can’t be be cross referenced with other media.
The fear of what they could ruin. The hope of what they could achieve. If they really know what they are doing. Then we will all be waiting to see the fruit of their labor

The fact that they say it wont be canon with the Halo games actually tells me they're going to mess around and change things... Maybe for the worst, I keep my expectation low honestly, the last live action we saw from halo was the story with Locke, and it was boring as hell with cheap special effect
Every character? Gravemind? The Didact? The librarian? No way they have every character in the show. One season of run time wouldn't be enough to just say all the names of all the characters let alone actually have them in the show.
Yea it sound cool. But I'm probably not going to get paramount+ just for that, unless there's a free trial.

Fearful. I have a feeling that they are somehow going to water it down into every cliche sci-fi show you have ever seen. But, who knows. Maybe it will be alright.
Reasons why I'm afraid of this series:
1) Video game movies and shows have never had a good reputation upon release. Sure Sonic and Pokemon had a decent run, and I actually enjoyed the newest MK movie, but three out of a hundred is not good odds.
2) This is going to Paramount Plus, a streaming site that hosts without a doubt some of the most egregiously awful media on the planet. Very little that has come out of Paramount Plus has been any kind of good, if anything at all. Some of the worser aspects of the shows on the service typically include narratives just being fucked all together, or needlessly crammed with divisive identity politics nobody cares for. Given just how arrogant some of those working for the service seem to be now, I have no reason to believe otherwise currently.
3) From what little we have seen of this, there doesn't appear to much in the way of what makes Halo Halo. No interaction with the Covenant (or any Covenant shown at all), little in the way of presenting Chief and Cortana, Hell we barely even saw any set pieces that looked in line with the games. Save for perhaps that one shot of High Charity, though even then, it inspires very little confidence.
I'm sure a lot of people are going to tell me, "oh well it's just a teaser, wait for a true trailer" or "wait for the series to come out", but that doesn't really matter a whole lot. What do trailers and the series matter if the first impressions are already blown to Hell? First impressions, no matter how minimal, are always important.
Cautious Optimism is what I'm trying to say here. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
