  • I shoot a Remington 700 hand made clone of the fabled DAPRA XM-3 sniper rifle that was originally intended to replace the M40-A3. This rifle is built to spec the exception of the scope base material and scope being FFP rather than SFP. Please see Part 1 of this review for details on the build.

    Great video. Love seeing the shorter R700s pushing out to distance.

      Thanks man! But it isn’t my rifle - it is on loan. If I built it myself, it would be a 6mm, not a 308. Lol.

      @@ChristopherBrusa I have several 308 but I do agree with you on the 6mm. I love and enjoy my 700 in 243. I had it rebarrelled with a Hart 25" barrel. It's a little heavy but it's a shooter.

      @@earlmorrison8163 This rifle has a Hart barrel. I guess they are the only ones making the proper XM-3 contour. And they only do it once in a blue moon. Only Hart I’ve shot…but at 100 yards it was putting holes on top of holes. Also, my 308 comment was aimed towards long range target shooting, not hunting.

      Sorry about that. I was limited on ammo and wanted as much as possible for the long range stuff - I essentially just zeroed and got the muzzle velocity.

      This isn’t my clone - it belongs to a good friend that is heavy into clones. I’ll have a detailed walk through of the rifle up shortly, but from what I understand, this was a long and intensive process to source all the correct parts. And you may be thinking the detachable magazine doesn’t belong on there, discuss that along with a couple other controversial parts. Thanks for watching! PS. I’ll cover more of his clones in the future.

    How do you think this stock compares to the HTG? What would you say are the strengths and weaknesses of each one?

    • @ChristopherBrusa
      @ChristopherBrusa  3 місяці тому

      That is an interesting comparison. I don't have the XM3 stock here for comparison any longer, but I find both stocks not great for prone shooting. The butt end of both are similar from what I remember, where you have a raised comb with cutout for the bolt, but when prone, the butt pad sits too low unless you want to get a larger bipod and big rear bag. Both work well in any other position. The pistol grip portion of the XM3 is more vertical than the HTG, where the HTG is more like McMillan's traditional hunting stocks. The forends are very different - the HTG is wide and rounded, somewhat like a benchrest gun, while I found the XM3 to resemble the M40A3 forend shape for the most part, with a solid flat portion and steep transition to the vertical walls. I wish I had more input for you, but I am not the owner of the XM3 and can't do comparison with both in my hands. Thanks for watching!

    • @danieljolley8371
      @danieljolley8371 3 місяці тому

      No worries, I appreciate all the feedback. On the HTG, I'm really torn between getting that, the xm3 stock, and a McMillan a5, so I wanted to ask a bit more on what you personally like about the HTG? And do you find it better for positional and offhand shooting than tactical style stocks?
      Loving the videos, hope to see more from you soon!

      @@danieljolley8371 My life has been crazy lately - I'm currently working on a series of videos.
      But back to your question, I kind of view the HTG as a hybrid stock for hunting uses with a reasonable butt and large forend to accept a target sized barrel...but it is also something you could easily run in the NRL Hunter series with a game changer bag. A typical more narrow hunting stock isn't going to sit well on a game changer bag. I have spent a bit of time hunting that stock and its comfortable off hand, but it is on the heavy side, so if you are holding it up waiting for the shot , it does get a bit straining.
      I personally would prefer the more narrow, yet flat bottom (for tac stuff) of the XM3 for off hand shooting. But this comes down to personal preference. Between the two, I'd likely choose the XM3.
      (I personally prefer the McMillan Remington Classic or McMillan Hunter for off hand shooting over anything else.)
      The A5 adjustable is an amazing stock. IMO the best traditional stock for PRS or long range shooting...but it is heavy.
      What is the intended purpose of your rifle?

    • @danieljolley8371
      @danieljolley8371 3 місяці тому

      Well it's basically going to be a do-all rifle, and I hope to shoot maybe some tactical competitions with it. It is going to have an 18.5 inch m40 profile barrel. I'll likely hunt with it, but if it becomes an issue I already have an actual hunting rifle. I'm betting the majority of the shooting I'm going to do is different positional shooting, and some prone/bench as well.

    • @danieljolley8371
      @danieljolley8371 3 місяці тому

      Also, are you saying you'd pick the xm3 stock between that and the HTG or between the A5?

      This isn't my rifle, but what the owner told me, there were one or two sold through the CMP that had M5 bottom metal. But I have no idea - I have no skin in the game.
