So good 👍 Holy crap, I just discovered this band today, February 18, 2023, after someone posted in a Facebook Indie Rock group about seeing them live in the 90's. Just out of curiosity about the strange band name, I decided to look them up on UA-cam and now I've been listening to them all morning. Listening to every song available by them. I grew up in the 90's but never heard of them because I'm in the US. So many wonderful bands out there that people in the US have never even heard of. Better late then never I suppose.
If it's any consolation, I'm Welsh born and raised, lived here all but 4 years of my life, and just found this band on accident myself whilst a randomised youtube mix was playing! They managed to go under my radar for nearly 24 years, it's a feat enough you found them! If you've not heard it already, I love the vibe of Merched Y Neud Gwallt Eu Gilydd, reminds me of bands like Jellyfish and Pavement:)
I remember singing my version of the end of this song to a girl in uni whose first language was Welsh, at the end of which she said "sorry, that was complete gibberish."
Ever since this song came out on a "shine" compilation album and I heard this band for the first time I've been so enamoured-this album is a classic, brave but wonderful stuff xxx
Free translation of the end bit of song in welsh: 'Mae'n bwrw glaw so dal fy llaw ond mae'r gaeaf mor hir, mae'n cymryd gormod o'r tir' = It's raining so hold my hand but the winter's so long it takes everything from the Earth.
Nice to see this mashup of video and song! It could almost be an actual Gorky's music video from the 1990s, looking like the 1960s. Here's the info I found on the actual footage, for anyone else that is wondering: Brigitte Bardot with Milenko Banovitch and Milko Sparemblek in "À vos souhaits! » Broadcast on French television, 1963.
NedRampage and whoever else, this song apparently reached No 41. in the UK charts. This means that it was a whisker away from being played nationwide on UK radio and would have reached many more listeners. It's sad that people didn't hear it as it is such a lovely song. At least we've heard it!
As has been mentioned by others, it was on one of the Shine compilation CDs, which were probably the biggest compilation series of the Britpop era, and meant that bands like Gorky's reached a much wider audience of Indie lovers than their chart position suggests.
BritZissou You just used some old footage and edited it together. That's if you did make this video. If you did then I'm sure that you didn't pay for the rights to use it. So why should I even give you even a penny. You're begging so go away scam artist.
Anyone know where or what the video is from? The woman looks like Bridget Bardot and before she became a movie star, she was a dancer...Moulin Rouge laps, no just a joke but I wish....
yep it's Brigitte Bardot doing weird dancing to Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's Patio Song. A mix up by the uploader above. I'm not sure where the video is from
An underrated song this one, love it! Great bit of video matching as well, BritZissou. Check out my band Burning Ice if you like for another Welsh alt rock act that produces killer catchy tunes! Cheers
@@blackehite1292 This song was released in 1996, Bardot was 63 years old then. The woman in the video does not look 63 years old! Maybe the video has nothing to do with the song...
So good 👍

awesome
Listen to the super furry animals too.cut from same cloth.

I remember a similar story 😂
I love that you made the attempt; quite a romantic gesture on your part and such a lovely passage
And you two are now happily married with two smart, fun, delightful kids... right?
Better be how that story ends
:(. Awww…. Hugs
Lol you should have said "Yes, perfect Welsh!"
Great song with a melody and rhythm that seems to have that New Wave flavour that never bores you. Makes you want the song to go on forever.
Maximum shunting

Teethgrinder 83 shine 7 - awesome album!
'It's raining so hold my hand. The winter is so long, it takes so much of the land.'
I am so pleased to be exposed to beautiful Welsh lyrics.
Try Melys , one hell of a tune they have.
the tempo & language change is so good
Talk about an underrated song. Beautiful and classic in a COOL way.
Free translation of the end bit of song in welsh:
'Mae'n bwrw glaw so dal fy llaw ond mae'r gaeaf mor hir, mae'n cymryd gormod o'r tir'
= It's raining so hold my hand but the winter's so long it takes everything from the Earth.
So beautiful
Thank you
Diolch! I don't speak Welsh but I can see similarities with Irish. llaw = lámh gaeaf = geimhreadh tir = tír
It's beautiful. I'm American but fell in love with a Welsh girl. I will never miss another girl as much as I miss her.
Diolch.
A tragically underappreciated song in regional Australia.
Id argue its underappreciated everywhere
Somewhat underappreciated in the blue mountains also!
I’m surprised a welsh singer got that far that’s pretty amazing
@@ellalewis1164 i listen gorkys in Argentina since always haha

Also met the lead singer once at a random camping thing in Wales. Lovely guy.

Nice work, man. Not heard this since Radio 1 Evening Session in 199...2/3?!... Merci beaucoup!
I remember taping it off the radio in 1995.
Anybody else here because Elis James keeps banging on about them and they're glad he did?
Just heard him mention them and here I am. I am glad!
Absolute hammer legends. Definitely on email these guys

my favorite song of all time
Welsh bands are very tuneful and experimental...I used to buzz off SFA...

Lovely editing.

it got a little airplay on an indie radio station in oz back in the 90s. But never enough.

Yonlu tinha um belo gosto musical!!
It is indeed a lovely day.
Hairline crack in patio. Bit warm.
What a great, great song. I even liked the dancing video.❤
not heard this song for years....forgot just how good it is.
This is genius. Deserves to be much better known in its own rite, without respect to its historical significance, which is great, nontheless
Brilliant choice of video, i didn't expect BB with GZM
Best live band ever.
yea this video is the really perfect for the song. Thanks for making this BritZissou

brigitte bardots ballet is fantastic like this patio song. A good marriage!
The Gorky's saved a lot of money making that video. All they had to do was pay for the rights to use that footage.
+lemsip Actually, no one got paid out it, dear. As I re-edited this footage for fun. Though some money would be nice.
BritZissou
I'm not giving you any money for it.
+lemsip can't blame a girl for trying.

Right.
I like this very much but I'd love to know what the original music to this video is. Are you able to tell me.
'Cry Me An Afan' wuss mun brawd. Bont Bardot c'est magnifique!

He sounds like Paul McCartney
You mean George Harrison?
