Back in the day I set up rules to forward my Gmail and my second Hotmail account emails to my primary to avoid the hassle of having to check three separate accounts. Never knew about this trick, though, so thanks Leo.
Great timing Leo. My Microsoft account email is one of those I deemed necessary to change for security reasons.
under rated video. really helpful i changed my email for my Microsoft account and set the ability to only sign in with the new email due to the fact my old email was compromised and i can still see people all round the world trying to access all the time but now they don't even have the sign in email or new password. but i still get old emails from accounts i don't all remember from years ago.

thank you so so so so much im so glad i didnt have to have access to my original email to delete it, thankfully i had my phone number as a secondary alias and then i swapped emails and deleted the original. youre just a godsend, sometimes these types of websites are hard to navigate and figure out.
I filled the recovey page to get my google account back but it is still not recoverd

To the best of my knowledge, yes. Though I'd love to see them add a similar feature.

I don’t know if you’re able to help but I can’t get answers from anywhere else. I had an old Mac and recently purchased Office 2016 from my Microsoft account. I purchased a new Mac and purchased Office 365 again through my Microsoft account. The outlook app works well on my new Mac but if I log onto the online version of outlook it only shows my old 2016 and it keeps asking me to upgrade. Is there anything I can do to be able to log into Office 365 and see all my emails because at the moment I don’t have anything.
Leo, I use outlook as my main email client.
I have my own domain.
I have set up on the domain server to forward that email to outlook
That’s great I can give out my lovely private email address and not the outlook one to people and the the emails they send will go to outlook.
I have also added my private email as an alias to log onto outlook as you described. I have also set up that email address so I can sent out from outlook. This means I can use outlook as my email client and use my friendly domain email address rather than the outlook one.
I did this a long time ago so that may not be possible to do this now.
Hi Leo, thank you but I think there is a problem (hope I am wrong). The problem is that you cannot change the email address (account) for Microsoft Office. Only Microsoft Support can do this? I am referring to the perpetual versions of Office not Microsoft 365, which may be different?
ANSWER NEEDED! Hi Leo, my experience with changing my primary email account on my Microsoft account is that I lost all access to software that I purchased from the MS Store, notably addons to MSF2020, and had to change it back. I would really appreciate an answer to this one as I really need to change my email address as my current provider is closing shop on providing an email service. Thanks, Graeme from Australia
I'm surprised, since it's still the same *account*. If you sign in to your PC with the old email address, do the store items return? (This is one reason I recommend not removing the old email address until everything's stable.)
@@askleonotenboom Thanks for the reply Leo. The loss of access occurred only when I changed the 'Primary' account (not removing the old email). Changing it back restored access. There was a brief popup that stated something about needing the XBox account email and the MS account email to be the same and used in the original purchase. Unfortunately the popup disappeared before I could read all of it. If I find an answer I'll let you know. Regards.

Ive been locked out of my old hotmail account i made many many years ago back when that was the only way to acquire a Microsoft account. Since then Minecraft has heen taken over my Microsoft and i cannot login anymore.
I don't think its compromised though but the old password was leaked in a data breach and i did manage to change it but there's been too many login attempts so i need to remove the email completely even if i can get back into it

Leo, one concern. By doing this, are we not adding more doors and thus creating security issues? Am I missing something, but my thought is - why would I do this?
Some people are embarrassed by the email address they chose as a teenager, but don't want to lose the contents of their account or move to another one. Also "hotmail" has always had many negative connotations. And as long as your account security is set up properly (2FA, etc.) I don't see a problem.

when i sign into my outlook it goes through my microsoft account, if i change my primary email and add a different one what would happen to my outlook that is linked with my microsoft, would i never be able to use it again?
As long as you don't delete the email address it'll continue to work. The two email addresses are aliases to one another, so email for both should show up.

@@kipanator If you delete the existing email address from the account, then no, I do not believe you will be able to access that email any more.
So am I right that by adding an alias it just lets you use that email to sign into your Microsoft account using your original password for Microsoft but the alias mail will still only go to that email? If correct what would the benefit be of doing this as surely letting more email addresses access your account using one password would be a security issue?

Just because Microsoft allows this I can use my decade old Microsoft account without bothering to create another one. But for Gmail had to stop using my stupid address back from school days
