Hey genius keyboard player and yodeller - no need to sod about with fancy intros - I bought Sylvia as but a child in the 1970's - NLs should be proud of you - your music from this era early 70's is up there with the best of English music from early 70's --- best music era ever --- don't compromise or dumb-down for anyone
The intro is longer than we expect in pop times but I like the jazz mode. The melody is like a story you hear as a kid and don't mind hearing every night the same way.
Definitely not. He is not Jan Akkerman at all. However, he is not so bad. Jan Akkerman’s Silvia has developed a lot and sounds no longer like this, I suppose. ua-cam.com/video/2osYIkXU1Qs/v-deo.htmlsi=_I4oGxXYFtK4p8Fm
Reminds me of those days, many years ago when great musicians wrote and played great music, that the public used to buy and listen to. Unfortunately, the music died even if all of the musicians have not quite done so.
Wonderful… just wonderful. Incredible musicians at the top of their game. And, no - of COURSE it’s ‘not Jan Akkerman’ …it’s not meant to be Jan Akkerman. It’s Menno Gootjes, and he’s doing what Menno Gootjes does. Brilliantly!
Musicians have a story to tell, would like you to listen, want to take you on their journey. there are some when i say no thank you, but with ome thijs i go anywhere, he takes you to places real fine.
@@gabbycattell9030 While the drummer here technically wasn't the original drummer for Focus, Pierre appeared on the early stuff and has been part of the band since Moving Waves.
@@tedparkinson6892 The thing is that Jan was an essential part of Focus. Might just be my Dutch Pride talking there, but that is how I personally see it ;) And I didn't trash talk the guy, even complemented him, he just isn't Jan ;)
@@frankboogaard88 I understand. But we all know what happens to 'older groups'. And Van Leer is using the name for marketing purposes and more power to him. So it is, and it isn't "Focus". About 4 years ago I saw "War" with most of the original players. But due to legal issues, they were not allowed to use that name, and appeared as "The Low Riders". Ridiculous. They *were* War.
How sad, that aging musos feel a need to keep rehashing their immortal hits worse and worse over the years. And equally sad that nostalgic fans can't objectively discern such renditions as crap. If you want to hear great renditions of Sylvia (or anything from the 70s), just stay home and put the old albums on. Sorry, but who wants to hear TVL *NOT YODELLING like he used to* and some tense newby *butchering Akkerman's superlative lead riffs* .
Saw them in NY Central Park in the 70's - awesome then and still great!!
Live long and prosper 🖖 Mr. Van Leer! Hope to see you in 2021 or 2022.
Always found it fascinating that Sylvia (guitar, written by Thijs) and House of the King (flute, written by Jan) were either side of the UK single!
Amazing band. Just seen this line up live tonight in Dover UK. What a treat!
Always been my favorite Focus song, love this modern rendition!
Its goin down to hell... occultism or Satan spell...!!!
God blesscthi old band...
take Jesus for you life all mans...😢😢 2:24
It was a great gig and venue! And thank you Trading Boundaries for making my American visitors feel special and welcomed!
Nog steeds een van mijn favoriete songs van focus. (maar dan met Jan Akkerman)
Love and love and even more love! Thank you for the music.
Just saw them last night in The Earl Haig Club, Cardiff... ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!
I was there that night. Fabulous. Mr Van Leer was a complete gent to talk to.

Absolutely we will never get this type of music again.
I've just come home from seeing them at the Powerhaus in Camden and it was exactly like this! They are phenomenal.
Keep up the playfulness Thijs, it is very refreshing!
Still great all these years later, excellent performance 👏👍
Musicianship of the highest order, stunning.
Wonderfull music of Focus.Congratulations for all
LUV This!!!
Great sounding mix.
This live mix is nicer than the old 'Live At The Rainbow'...from way back when.
Well Done, All!
Evoking great memories.
Looking forward to seeing them at Trading Boundaries again this Friday
Congratulations Menno. Superb. Come to Ireland soon. We'll give you a great Cead Mile Failte.

A word for Udo Panakeet killing it on bass.
The intro is longer than we expect in pop times but I like the jazz mode. The melody is like a story you hear as a kid and don't mind hearing every night the same way.
Qué gran versión GENIOSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Awsome live band 🎼👌
Brilliant.......
Menno Gootjes is no Jan Akkerman, but then nobody else is. He is still pretty good.
He sounds better than the smooth jazz meanderings Akkerman gravitates toward these days.
Definitely not. He is not Jan Akkerman at all.

That's the best part about both lmao
amazing

Looking forward to seeing them there on Jun16th 22 after their last gig there fell foul of Covid!...
nog steeds super!!!!
Fantastic ‼️

guitarist is a badass
Super.
👏👏👏👏
One of ten prog songs. Hocus Pocus included.
The guitarist is comparable to Mr Akkerman!
Ho hum?

Should have trimmed off the first 2:10
Was the full concert recorded? Can you upload full concert?
hermoso
Mark Ruffalo on bass
Not the original guitarist of the band?
Jan Akkerman left the band in the 1970s but occasionally contributed, the last time in the 1990s I believe. The current guitarist is Menno Gootjes.
Of zo:

Akkermanns touch is nowhere to be found, otherwise it`s OK.
Sadly it is not Jan Akkerman playing the guitar, so NOT Focus, but good job on the guitar.
@@gabbycattell9030 While the drummer here technically wasn't the original drummer for Focus, Pierre appeared on the early stuff and has been part of the band since Moving Waves.
Yeah, like it's not the Rolling Stones 'cause Ronnie Wood is not the 'real' guitarist and the bass player is that other guy.....

Only Jan Akkerman and kieth Cosgrove nail this
nee, het origineel liep lekkerder
Helaas doet Thijs een beetje seniel.....
Original é melhor!!!!
that's not the real one :-)
Jan Akkerman he aint, very average
Look at that Old Lesbian playing the organ....
Dropped on your head as a baby?
