One thing I might suggest from my experience in rebuilding after Hurricane Michael kind of wrecked everybody's homes, businesses and shops is that if you want lighting that hugs the ceiling without hanging down into your work area, go with the four tube LED fixtures. Those things put out a phenomenal amount of light and use very little electricity. Since I am retired and no long need a big shop but just one to handle light maintenance, I installed two sets and it is like daylight in that building. Oh, and they are almost bullet proof! One of my outbuildings was crushed when a big oak tree fell on it during the storm. I took the LED fixtures down as I was attempting to salvage anything I could from the wrecked building. One of the lights was okay but the other was bent up pretty badly and full of water. With normal fluorescent lighting that is an automatic death sentence for them. I reshaped the housing, dried the fixture out and reinstalled the lights in my rebuilt building. I can't tell which light is which as both came on immediately and work just like they always did. Just an idea for those trying to get maximum light with minimum operating expense while saving overhead space.

If you haven't solved your lighting problem yet or if you did and just left the fluorescent fixtures in place, I highly recommend you change the bulbs to LED. There are replacement LEDs that work off the ballast in the fixtures and give over twice the lighting the fluorescent lamps produced. I changed mine out and love the end results. I know it is four months later but you never can tell, this might be just the information you needed.

    Hi Wes,
I am late to viewing this video. Congratulations on the move and the nice shop. You have probably already done the lighting, but if you haven't, I suggest an LED high bay light fixture(s).
Do a little research, they are approximately 3feet wide by 4feet long, about 8-10 of them placed & spaced well, and you will almost need a pair of sunglasses to work out there.
Very little power draw and no issues with -35degree cold weather.
    Thank you.

Nice Building, it has plenty of potential. I am with you on the use of conduit, I even put plastic conduit under the concrete before I poured the flood. It made it a bunch easier to wire. I really doubt anyone would bother you if you kept it zoned ag, besides I bet the business tax rates would be much higher, I would check into that before I made any changes. And besides that you will probably be working on a tractor now and then. About 6 years ago I changed my lights to T8 then a year ago I changed them to the 4 ft leds, twice the light and 1/2 the electric used. I heat my shop, house and all my hot water with a taylor outside water stove, I have to cut a bunch of wood but the cost to operate it is very little.
    Cheers and Good Luck

Please take it from an OLD guy,.. you're still young and have a lot of years to become the success that you envision business-wise. With your drive, talent, personality.. a supporting wife, it's a no brainer. PLEASE do find a good business strategies person (who is focused on SMALL business, 1-20 persons, not 100+ as the SBA interprets ) I have one who has even traveled from New England (where I used to live) to N. Quite the Garage Mahal you got there! Congrats on the (not so new in Sept. 2021) but new shop nonetheless!
Edit: hoo boy, that is one involved train set! It’s so photorealistic if the large vegetation and house weren’t present it’d be tough to tell the difference between this and a movie set! Way cool, so much work has gone into that installation and neat the owner opens his yard to the public for young kids like Lucas to ogle at! I used to have an OshKosh engineer’s overalls and hat around that age, I wish I still had it so I could send it to you if your son is into trains. He already has the coolest dad, I wasn’t even allowed to use the driveway to fix my car growing up and he’ll probably get to build a really cool car from an early age! Keep it up, love watching your content!
