I really don't think it was a risk. Placing 7th would still land her on the 4th spot. The girl eliminated only had 6.26% over all and the 5th placer only had 11.77%. Now, KZ got 24.08% on the 5th episode, even if she scored zero (impossible), her average would still be 12%, still landing her on 4th spot. It was a very clever strategy to penetrate and prepare China for KZ. That's the ultimate prize for this competition, capturing the Chinese market. Why the hell is internationally known Jessie J there in the first place? The songs they chose for KZ to sing were old hits from a different era so much so that it did not surprise the generally young audience-jurors, but captured another segment (age bracket) of the people of China and enough to send the message to the younger audience that she can sing Chinese and has that haunting "voice". China has has a median age of about 38 years old and I guess the songs she sang appealed to that age bracket. China is an aging country with 59% is in the 25-64 age bracket. I think China accepted her already and will be ready for any surprise Kz would be pulling out of box which I believe are plentiful. Strategy , plain and simple.
