Thanks Peter for the new series, I'm looking forward to them all. Kudos on the amount of new material lately it's great to have some "simple" inspirations for this winter's tying. Great work!
Thanks. You can be sure the dumb ones are edited out, like forgetting to tie in the tail. :) Believe me, there's tons of room for dumb mistakes with these videos. When I'm tying in front of the camera, it's often the first time I've ever tied the fly, plus I don't bring my pattern books to the table. I don't want them covered in head cement, plus I can't continually be looking at a book while shooting a video. So I'm working from memory, while tying it for the first time, while trying to remember the history and to say something semi-intelligent about technique. There have been a few disasters that will never see the light of day on YT. :) I should've saved them for a blooper reel - my swearing can get epic at times. I'm planning on leaving in mistakes that have instructional value. I'll also be varying between speed techniques that don't impact appearance and the slow, tedious stuff needed to make a fly look right. With the steelhead series, it focused a lot on speed and durability, but the Atlantic series will have more 'appearance' content.
I'll have to see if I have that one in my pattern books. I grew up listening to a record of Stanley Holloway singing "Sweeney Todd the Barber" so it's probably fitting that I do the fly.
that is just a yellow flie, the Alistair has a red head, a gold body and has a mix of yellow bucktail and as you dont know what a dirty bucktail is????? its the darker side of the tail as in the top side. originated on my local river here in Scotland River Helmsdale. Please do your research
So glad to see that there will be an Atlantic salmon fly series.
Very nice fly! I am enjoying where you are taking this series. Thanks and Cheers!

Thanks for not editing out your mistakes.

You got it right Jon! We lived there too for 10 years and I’ve caught a fair few fish under the watchful eye of the Beak!
