Cody! Do not watch Candyman 3! I repeat....do NOT watch Candyman 3!!! This movie is so bad that even Tony Todd said in an interview that he regretted doing it! It's that bad! So bad that they never made a Candyman 4!
my attempt to rationalize this with the ending of the first film - Helen did vanquish him (for a time, we’ll see the 2020 film soon enough) from Cabrini Green and replace him as the legend THERE. But his legend lived on in his birthplace of New Orleans, so he still flourished there, and Helen has no connection there. While this is going on, she’s haunting Cabrini Green.
I didn't think this sequel was bad, I find it to be good, it brings up more depth about the Candyman, I will admit it does have issues, and I enjoyed it.
I'd go so far as to say the first film is a masterpiece and one of the best horror films of its decade. It's beautiful, poetic, terrifying... it's art. Plain and simple. For me, it is easily a perfect 10. I actually didn't entirely dislike "Farewell to the Flesh." It's good for a few superficial thrills and has a handful of effective sequences. And of course Tony Todd is spellbinding as ever. But yeah... it's a standard schlocky slasher sequel, and it's a far shallower film. Definitely feels more like a "studio" film. I'd give "Farewell to the Flesh" a more middle of the road 6 out of 10.
To be fair, there is a slight diegetic reason that Helen and Annie are as similar as they are - Annie’s a direct descendent of the person that Candyman targets Helen because she specifically reminds him of her. That said - while Candyman’s twisted romance thing with Helen is very clear, his motive toward Annie is... off. Does he want her dead? Wouldn’t he want her daughter born so his and Caroline’s legacy can continue?
Hahahahahahaha, awesome bro! I didn't quite hate it like you did but I totally cannot argue with your points. If I come to this as a "generic 90's slasher" I can take some enjoyment from it. If I come to this as a sequel to the first film I'm like, "Aww, hell no!"

I'm obsessed with new Orleans and mardis gras so I loved this sequel. Oh btw Annie is meant to be his great great grand daughter, she was not from the lineage of the lynch mob
Candyman: Farewell of The Flesh isn't nearly as good as the first Candyman Movie but I still think that it's an Okay Sequel. The only things that are really worth in this Movie are the flashbacks on Candyman's Origin and Performance of Tony Todd. Candyman 3 on the other hand is....TERRIBLE!
They re-used a lot of the score from the first film and added a few new themes. I think the first film is about the legend of Candyman in Cabrini Green and at the end it becomes Helen's legend so she remains there. Candyman 2 it is the actual ghost of Daniel Robitaille looking for his lost family, not the tulpa created by the residents of Cabrini Green, so both Helen and Candyman can haunt different places. That's the way I justify this film, but I don't like thinking of it too much, I prefer pretending there was only the first film. I think the producers of this movie just didn't care justifying the first film's ending and just retconned it.
Cody, I have to disagree with you on a couple of things. Firstly, when you finish a movie like they did with Halloween 4 or Candyman, and in the sequel, it's evident that the main villain is coming back, you have to accept from the get-go that they threw out the ending of the last one and IMO, it's totally different from how they continued with a franchise like after Alien 3. In a way, I'd say this way of continuing a franchise is in fact " a soft reboot." So if you can accept "hard reboots" like Halloween 2018 (at least the concept), I don't see why you can't for movies like this, not saying that this is a good sequel, BTW. As for other Clive Barker films, if you've ever seen Hellraiser 2, you would know that it's just as good as the 1st one (or not depending on your taste) but IMO easily better. Great video as always!
I've been subbed to u for a while now nd I love ur reviews man. I can't wait for u to do Candyman 3 that shit is gonna be hilarious! Loved ur From Dusk till Dawn review. Keep up the great work man.
When did you do the Hellraiser films. I only see one review of that one. And if I say so myself, you say no more sequels to Clive Barker film, Hellraiser II is actually better that the first Hellraiser movie. 😏
The second better? Nah. He's never reviewed the Hellraiser movies. And he's only seen the first 4 and Judgment (aka the good ones), and he only likes the original and dislikes the rest of them (and he hasn't even seen the worst ones).
With me, the first one, I truly loved it. This one, this was when I tapped out. Didn't like so much, didn't even bother with seeing the third. However, with how much worse I hear it is, just want to wish you the best of luck with that review, Cody.
I didn't see anyone mention this, but the brother in this movie is probably best known as playing the youngest brother to Tim "The Toolman" Taylor in Home Improvement. That was the only thing I found memorable out of this sequel that doesn't involve Tony Todd.
I will go on to say I only acknowledge Candyman as a one of one, no sequels or threequels. I heard they're redoing Candyman next yr too, bet they f it up.
Yared1212 candyman is just as iconic as freddy, jason, chucky and the rest of them, but candyman has suchhhhhh great backstory, better than any other slasher
Cody can you please do a review on candyman 3 just solely for entertainment and humor purposes!!!! We get so much joy when you go off on a tangent on what you don't like
I agree that the "Candyman" sequels were rather unnecessary. The first film is an awesome, spooky, and thrillingly iconic one-off movie. In my opinion, they could've made "Farewell to the Flesh" better by setting it in Chicago instead of New Orleans, expanded more on exactly how Annie and her family are related to Candyman's lover and exactly why he's wanting to come after them, and maybe having Annie live in Helen's old apartment as a cooler nod to the original.
Candyman 3 is so bad ,if you think Farewell to the Flesh was a disservice the first one, part 3 just stomps on everything good about the original into dust
Candyman 2 was actually as good as the first due to Clive Barker's involvement. He made them both work. Also, the music by Phillip Glass was just as good as the first. The location being moved to New Orleans made for some great set-pieces and it further explored the anti-racism messages of the first film. Plus, it further replicated the atmosphere of the original short by Clive Barker. Also, the acting was pretty damn good too, from Tony Todd to others including Kelly Rowan, Bill Nunn, and Veronica Cartwright.
Well, although I would not recommend it to the casual viewer, I think it is necessary to complete the series review for your audience. The more episodes you do, and franchises you complete, the more viewers you'll draw. I would definitely lower your expectations going in, and keep telling yourself it's the last one.
