The places we went to were all main attractions around Lijiang, 8 days trip is a bit rush to visit Lijiang-Dali-Shangri-la. We spend 4 days in Lijiang ancient town, one day trip to Dali and returned by train, another day in Lijiang, on the way to Shangri La, we went to Stone Drum village and the First Bend of the Yangtze River, then 2 days in Shangri La, main attraction there is Songzanlin monastery, and finally back to Kunming city. Most beautiful place is Jade Dragon Mountain, make sure perfect weather to go up and avoid peak session.

Never enough if you ask me since there is so much to see, ok for 7 days to see a few of main attractions with good plan, transport in china is critical, you can reach destination by public transport, local tour (usually this is a waste of time unless you like shopping), or charter car/bus is the best, ask your hotel to help you out and make sure to compare the price. Winter time has shorter day time while summer is perfect but crowded.
Hi, we do not use any tour to avoid force through shopping and maximise our private time. We just hide some local driver recommended by our hotel for day trip if needed.

Like other part of china, winter in Yunnan Province starts from Dec to March, generally, Yunnan Province has excellent air quality, winter is dry and less chance of rain. Coldest month is in Jan.
I mainly use 2 cameras, small enough for travelling, no big SLR, for date time shots, I use DJI osmo wtih gimbal, for time time, I use Panasonic LX100. Heavy editing from 20 hours of raw footages. Still shots come from my Sigma DP1 merrill.

Just back from Xian - another trip this year. All the places in this video are the main attractions that you won't miss when arrived. We spent 8 days. Just don't miss the Jade Dragon Mountain. Go up there in a good day, just beware of the high altitude (over 4500 m on top) , you may need to charter a local car/bus to minimise the travelling time in a day.
