    I love this! It's lovely hearing how the neighbourhood evolved through the eyes of a resident and artist, where he was able to immortalise his memories in the neighbourhood he grew up in.

    Bring back a lot of fond memories. I am 64 and my god mother used to be a red hat mason build up the Singapore flats in the 60s and 70s. My dad already passed away at almost 90 and should be more than 100 year old if still alive. The MOE should tell the Singapore story to our students how hard our ancestors worked for what we have today. Not to take everything for granted. God really bless us.

    The last remaining sea view.. I am lucky to see the sea from my 1 room flat on the 18 floor on Banda street some 30+ years ago.. I remember sitting on my Ah Ma sewing machine looking out of the window..
    1983 was the year we moved to Chinatown Complex. my parents had a veg stall in the market.
    I spent my childhood days in Maxwell market and this market. Many of the uncles and aunties (my parents’ friends haves passed away or moved away)
    Chinatown has become touristy and the People park complex is full of Chinese FTs. Nothing has changed as our ancestors from China had settled here 100 + plus years ago..

      @Terry I looked for Singaporean movies and TV dramas on Netflix the other day, 99% of them are in Mandarin. The few with a Malay or Tamil speakers as main characters also have Mandarin in more than half of the conversations. The Malay official language is just an artificial cover of what Singapore actually is, a big Chinatown in the middle of South East Asia!

    • @tonyvu2011
      @tonyvu2011 3 роки тому

      @Terry how can I show you if you don't have Netflix to check yourself? I'm Watching "World at your feet" produced by Media Corp. Actually 100% TV dramas from Singapore are in Mandarin, all 24 of them available on Netflix.

      You were talking about Chinatown in this show and Chinatowns all over are for people from China. We are not from China.
      I represent my people, Singaporeans, which you are not. And you alluded to your lie and misrepresentation that we are a people from China and that Singaporean equals to people from China. You are a national security threat and a threat to our national fabric.
