I think why people considered so hard back in the day because we had Uber Germany AI who just steamrolled Soviets usually in early 1941. Allies could never win unless player carried them. Naturally every beat Germany achievement was a nightmare back then.
Was going to comment the same thing. Soviet AI was eating rocks during this time (which I believe was due to them being programmed to rush Service by Requirement which crippled their factory output and division count). Also, under the old air system it was easy to amass tens of thousands of each plane and there were less air zones. Against a post Soviet capitulation Axis Fortress Europa, you basically had to lead the charge with a pitiful small Dutch army with skies blanketed by 10s of thousands of fighters and thousands of CAS. I eventually got this achievement from invading Vladivostok from Japan (focused on beating them first) and marching through Siberia after poking around in NW Europe, Italy and Syria/Turkey.

"Dutch people, you gotta figure this thing out." Did you know English used to sound like Dutch? Yes it did. Because Dutch is quite a normal Germanic language. At least compared to English.
