Steve Wariner never quite got the recognition his talent deserved in country music. Great singer, wrote most of his songs and My Lord, he may have been the best guitar in the business during his prime. I watched this awards show the nite it aired and remember how strong the audience response was - many in those seats were musicians, writers, producers, etc. and I think they showed their appreciation for Steve and these guys who never quite got the superstar label they deserved - though actually Vince Gill did become a bigger name eventually. That is some serious country music being played in this video, a sound rarely heard in Nashville these days.
This is SO SO SO GOOD that if Leon Russell was on stage when one of those curtains goes up near the end, I'd faint into a total swoon! UNBELIEVABLE....could listen to these geniuses for HOURS!! Thank you!
Congratulations to Mac McAnally for overtaking my record of six wins in a row for "Musician of the Year" at the CMA Awards! He has done it seven times in a row! This was the beginning of my big run there in Nashville, and I got to open the show for an audience of 30 million people tuning in that year! Thank you once again to Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Steve Wariner, Carl Perkins, Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Alison Krauss, Marty Stuart, Jerry Douglas, and many more who joined me in this rendition of Carl Perkin's "Restless" winning CMA "Event of the Year."
How they did not feature Carl Perkins doing a solo spot on this song I can not understand. Hell, he wrote the damm song and had the top twenty hit with it back in 1969. Ugh.....Can't even hear Carl's guitar when he starts to play.

And it's C&W music geniuses like O'Connor who'd congratulate an overtaker...YOU ARE THE BEST.
That music was awesome and I’m sure today that musicians would have a hard Time to complete with that awesome music!

Wow! That's some line up! Thanks for sharing! :)
Fantastic - thanks for sharing
Obviously, some serious editing was done by the CMA folks. You can tell where the cuts are... Carl Perkins "the man"!
Brad Paisley would be right up there with them if they did this now. RIP Carl, Earl, Bill and Randy.
A Telegasm!

Barely recognized Brent Mason.
Brent mason just casually standing in the back playing and is never mentioned. only if they knew how big he'd become.
