Hey guys, I've had several people ask me about how to actually hook up the camera to their computer. Maybe I should have mentioned in the video that you need a capture card to capture a DSLR or mirror-less camera to your computer. This video was more about the best settings, but maybe I need to make one on how to actually set it up and what all you need. Subscribe as that video is probably coming!!! LOL Here's what you need to connect it to your computer. Elgato Cam Link - amzn.to/34WFyHh Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable - amzn.to/2VRahl0 You will need a Micro HDMI to normal HDMI as well to connect the camera to the capture card as the Canon EOS M200 uses Micro HDMI. Thanks!!!
Think of it this way. Both work, if you're new setting it in camera is probably easiest and honestly canon's color science is good straight out of box. However, if you want more control and want to dial everything in to be a very specific look, you'll want to use filters or lut's in OBS to adjust things like contrast or color effects. If you understand how that stuff works I'd totally recommend trying it out or learning more about it as every little bit helps but again for 99% of people, canon out of the box is probably good enough!
ahhhh...one of the BEST videos I found for the setting on this camera. Have been searching YT for weeks for a video like this to walk-thru ..thank youuuuu
Do you have any solutions for when the camera turns off every 30 minutes while streaming? I have the auto off disabled but it still shuts off mid stream and i'll have to turn it back on (no overheating is occuring, camera just turns off) Which I know it's supposed to do that with no activity, but if I'm streaming I don't want to have to keep continuously turning it on every 30 minutes
Very clear instructions. Thank you for helping to set up the camera.I have cooking channel & have one question - my recorded clips ( with canon EOS M200)some times flicker and closeups are not clear. Why so? whats the solution?
Great video settings seem perfect. One Q how do we tell if recording? I'm running through an atem mini pro, recording to ssd before final editing. Camera is working great but there is no indication Rec is on. Does it automatically start recording as soon as cable is plugged in???
Well I played around for 20 minutes. The answer - Yes recording starts automatically with clean HDMI out, running through an ATEM Mini Pro, saving onto SSD. Additionally there are no other lights or screen info on the M200 to show the info is being transmitted. Best way to tell is the image is on the monitor.
If you're talking about recording to the external device you're connected to then there would be no indication on the camera and it would just be recorded once you would hit record on your external device. If you're talking about on the camera even plugged in you would need to still hit the record button to also record on the camera
Hi, Maybe I missed it... but is there an 'auto-shut-off' that needs to disable on this camera (many Canons shut off after 30 min and it can't be disabled). Thanks!
OMG It's Derek Thank you - are you 100% sure this works? I’ve spoken with Cannon customer service and apparently all Cannon LCDs go to sleep after 30 min (even when the auto-shut-off is “disabled”, even when they’re not recording - and even though the trade tariff that led to the 30 minute record limit to begin with is gone). Does the clean HDMI out ‘stay awake’ past 30 minutes? Or is this camera completely useless for streamers who want to go longer than 30 without awkwardly reaching around the camera. :-) Thanks.
As I said already, you must turn off eco mode. When you do, two new options pop up. One for the LCD which you're right, can only be left on for up to 30 mins and then an auto power off feature which you can disable completely. So yes, the screen will eventually turn off, which is the correct way to do it so you don't harm your LCD screen, however, the unit will not power off and will still work. :-) Thanks.
Personally, I don't even leave my lcd screen on for 30 minutes. I have it turn off after 1 minute. No sense in having it on while you're streaming unless you're obsessed with looking at yourself.
OMG It's Derek I don’t think you understand my question... The feed from cannons is from the LCD, and therefore the broadcast ‘goes to sleep’ after 30 minutes. This happened to me on a live feed the other day... and it’s well-documented. The Sony 6400 was touted as “not limited to 30 minutes”. What I’m wondering is if you can live stream from this camera for over 30 minutes without the feed going to the wake-up screen. Thanks. Obviously it’s not that good of a live stream camera if you can only go for 30 minutes before the feed cuts to some automatic ‘camera is asleep’ screen that the entire audience sees until you ‘wake it up’.
Thanks so much for this brilliant video: I use the canon m200 with EOS web utility for ZOOM meetings . Unfortunately the video has a black frame around and is smaller than the picture of the colleagues in the meeting . Any idea how to fix that? Season greetings from Cologne, Germany.
Hi, I don't know if you can still answer this comment but which lens are you using on your camera? My camera has the original lens but I want to know which one you are using.
@@OMGItsDerek i just changed the hdmi info disp to FHD and it doesnt show the square another question though Derek is the only way to change the brightness with the ISO?
Awesome thanks for letting me know. No you can also change the brightness with the shutter speed and the aperture they all work together to allow light in or out of the camera. Look up the light exposure triangle
The number that says 1/another number is your shutter speed....so 1/60 is a 60 shutter speed. So if your recording 1080p at 30fps you'd want a 1/60 shutter speed.
Hey, thank you for the help with setings, but i have on problem and i don't know how to fix this. Up and Down i have one bar black and i don't know how to take off that because in Streamlabs i see the same bar black up and down and i try everythink to resolv this but nothing, So can you help me please?
So, setting the shooting mode to Manual, I get a strange capturing of my movement, all laggy like, however autofocus my zoom and recordings are crisp and not all motion blurry.
Hi Derek ! Really love the video. I noticed mine is giving me a red flashing camera icon after several minutes on stream. any tips on how to get rid of this?
hi pal need to ask a quick question hopefully you can help me out asap when i have everything setup the camera just switches off after like 2 mins any way how to change it so it stays on?
Great video! First time in your channel. I would like to buy the M200. If you allow me one question please. When you use the camera in OBS for a zoom call, does it shuts down after 30 min or just keep running? If so, for how long? Does the screen stay active? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English; i'm still learning Have a Productive and Healthy day!
Hey Derek! How do I prevent my EOS M200 from overheating? I'm using the same settings as you, but the camera starts to overheat after 25 minutes or so and shortly after it turns off due to that. Initially I contacted Canon and they recommended that I switched to a new one at the vendor, which I did, but the new camera has the exact same issue. It happens both using a normal battery as well as a dummy battery connected to an AC to DC adapter. I've also tried with and without a an SD card, as the heat feels like it's coming from that side of the camera, but to no avail either. What am I doing wrong? Surely both cameras can't be having the exact same issue... Have you any experience with overheating issues on the EOS M20? I hope you can help me...
Hi, I've not had any issues with it overheating I'm sorry! I've noticed in the comments some people have and some people haven't. I've never once had this camera overheat in me in using it for about a year now when it comes to streaming via hdmi output. Sorry I can't help!
First off thank you so much. I've been using the canon m200 for about a year as a webcam but always thought something wasn't right. My Logitech looked just as good. Watched your video and it has completely changed that for me. I do have a question. I'm have an issue with what looks to be like a screen tear or like the old school video cameras wear there is like a color tear but just in certain spots. Do you know what might be causing this.
Is this actually showing up in recordings and on stream or just on your monitor? I ask cause apparently with the latest update of OBS there has been peeps complainimg of this...including myself. Doesn't actually show up on stream or recordings for me just on my own monitor.
Most cameras do not allow you to charge via usb. Some newer ones are starting to, however, the m200 is not one of those. Here is what i use, not just for the m200, but for all my cameras! amzn.to/2Xd4ic2
@@OMGItsDerek Thanks for replying :) Yeah, I ended up ordering a similar one... It's a pity this small feature is missing and that it is so hard to find the respective official product from Canon.
So after 20 minutes of being idle or so the camera begins to flash a little red camera icon at the top right with an X over it, i've looked it up and apparently its "over heating", but its really not. how do i get rid of this?
You can't get rid of it but it does not overheat. I use this camera for my live streams and have been for months several times a week for hours upon hours and I've never had an issue.
Thanks for the reply! So you don’t mind that the icon shows up on the stream? I capture the camera out with an Elgato HD60S and i can clear the whole interface except that.
Oh, I didn't realize what you were saying. That icon does not show up on my stream. It just flashes on the camera. it should not be showing up through the HDMI output if you have clean HDMI output set up correctly. somebody else had an issue like this with this camera where the auto focus was still showing up but nothing else. He said he had to do a factory reset and reset up all the HDMI clean outputs and stuff and then he said it worked correctly
Not sure, I don't have an issue with it overheating unless I'm actually recording 4k or 1080p 60fps directly to the camera. If I'm just using the hdmi out and not actually recording this camera does not overheat for me!
Ahh, yeah I use a capture card. I don't use the webcam utility. Not saying that's your issue as I'd think canon wouldn't offer it if it overheard the camera but I'm not sure
I have a question Darek and community. My M200 is only giving me a max of 1080/50, not 60. Do I need a firmware update or is there a setting to toggle? Thank you
Hey Derek thanks for sharing that wonderful camera I told your platform was really good really appreciate your help you're really cool dude thank you again your best friend from Atlanta Georgia I subscribe to your Channel
As I said, it's not something I've had an issue with, hopefully someone who did will be able to help in the comments. I only have issues with this camera overheating if I'm trying to record video for long periods of time, not if I'm just using it for streaming.
If you're still having issues with this, make sure you are outputting to your PC (which is separate from the Recording setting) at FHD 1080p or 720p, and not 4K.. 4K will cause it to overheat.
It is the camera overheating indicator however as long as you're not actually recording and you are just pulling the HDMI source into a capture card or Cam link or whatever then there is no issue running it with that icon flashing. You hear people talk about this with this camera all the time however, I still use this as my main camera when streaming and we're going on like four or five years or however long it's been that I've been using this camera and there's been streams I've used it for 8 to 10 hours and I have yet to ever have an issue with it. So I would say you can safely ignore it
Ahh yeah depending on how far you are zoomed and affects the minimum aperture. That's why the lens is rated at 3.5 to 6.3. so in lenses this means that the minimum aperture will be 3.5 to 6.3 depending on how far you are zoomed in. So if you're zoomed all the way in on this lens the minimum aperture you can have is 6.3
@@OMGItsDerek Thank you ! I'll get this dummy battery www.amazon.es/gp/product/B07GXB7HK7/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A3H9LDGBXF3RS2&psc=1 the streams should last for a maximum of 4 hours, do you think I'm safe in heating?
Hard time tell, I've not had any problems with overheating unless I'm actually recording with the camera and so is the same for others but some people have.
Hi! I’m using the Canon m200 with the dummy battery and Elgato cam link for live streaming. About after 30 minutes i get an blinking red camera with X on the screen from the camera. What does it mean?
That's the overheating symbol. It can be ignored as long as you aren't recording. At least, I ignore it with no issues. I've never actually had the camera overheat while just streaming with it plugged in to my camlink
Great content Derek! I have the Cam Link 4K with Canon G7X Mark 3 and the latest (but discontinued) Macbook 12" with 16GB ram and a 1000/1000MB internet. Since going from Panasonic Lumix GH4 my stream starts to lag. Is it because my mac is too bad? Is it because of bad settings on the G7X Mark 3 (I've just changed ALL settings to everything you said in this video)? Or something else? Thanks a lot!
Switching from one camera to another shouldn't change anything as since you are using the cam link 4k it should use the same amount of resources unless you are now streaming at a higher resolution, say 4k instead of 1080p with the camlink. If I had to venture a guess though, I'd say it's most likely due to your computer. Laptops especially can be hard to stream with even more recent ones as they get hotter they thermal throttle which would then cause your cpu to drop clock speed which could cause lag. If you are streaming at 1080p for example, I'd try lowering your stream to 720p and see what it does. OBS should signal whether you are dropping frames due to cpu overload or due to internet. I've had an issue where my internet was fine using it normally but when streaming it would randomly drop frames and I had to call out my cable company 5 times before we finally figured out it was randomly dropping connection for like a millisecond every 15 - 30 mins. Hope some of that helps, if not, hit me up again and maybe we can chat and see if we can get it figured out for ya.
@@OMGItsDerek Hi Derek, thanks for feedback! Looks like the G7X Mark 3 just isn't good for live streaming. Canon told me it has autofocus based on eyes, so when we look down for comments on macbook etc., the focus has a little bit problems. The new solution for us is using Switcher Studio with an iPhone and iPad - very easy setup, and iPhone just always is working without focus/lag problems :)
i got the same camera and i use a cam link. the problem is the cam link shows the screen and the screen turns off every 30 mints, the camera doesn't have a option to shut it off, how do i stop from pressing the screen every 30 mints??
I'm not entirely sure to be honest. There are people that claim this camera turns off automatically for them after 30 minutes no matter what and there are people like me who do not have that problem. There are settings inside the camera to make sure it doesn't auto power off, but some say that still doesn't work for them. For myself, after changing the settings I mentioned I don't have that issue.
I am here to enquire about the M200 audio like I am looking forward for vlogging and I need good audio so I need suggestions for the audio cause there is no audio port in M200 r8 ? . Plese suggest me .
You are correct. There is only the built in microphone. I use stick on wind muffs to help with wind noise and stuff. Like these ones. amzn.to/3fSOYrT They make the audio 100x better in my opinion for cameras that you can't add a microphone to!
Thank you so much for the video. Quick question ... in my settings the video record quality shows 1080 25 fps & 1080 50fps instead of the 29.9 as it does in yours . any idea why this is ??
Hey man. This video was so helpful. But...I’m having quality issues with the camera. I can’t put out the quality that I know this camera is capable of during my streams. I’m stuck and don’t know what else to do. Any help would so greatly appreciated.
@@OMGItsDerek I have the camera set up exactly how you showed in your video. Fhd not 4K settings. I had the camera connect with usb and got the utility manager app on my pc to work but the just couldn’t get good quality in my stream. I then connected the camera with a capture device through hdmi and my quality is ok but I think the picture could still be better. With hdmi through the camera and not usb, the eso utility launcher won’t recognize the camera.
Basically you use a battery that has a power cable attacked to it. They sell them on Amazon for fairly cheap. ~20 USD. I'm def ready for canon to start allowing USB charging or something like some of the sony's do, but it's a fairly painless process. I have used them for years throughout my camera career lol.
OMG It's Derek I actually ordered this exact one when I ordered the camera yesterday! But I was worried bc I heard a ton of people saying to only buy Canon brand versions of this bc the third party ones have issues completely bricking cameras. I got 3 years insurance with the camera so if that happens it’ll be covered but still, I couldn’t even find a canon brand one anywhere. The one post I did find said “unavailable”
I've always used non canon brand and have never had an issue. but I guess that doesn't mean it can't happen lol. But not something I've ever worried about.
@@OMGItsDerek Sounds cool, thank for answer! :) I saw some videos of people complaining about over hit, do you use a dummy battery? do you saw some over hitting problem?
Hi Derek, I have a question. My M200 doesn't overheat literally, however there is this little icon on the screen that shows a picture of camera with an "x" mark (overheating sign). Do you also experience that?
@@OMGItsDerek Okay so it doesn't appear on your screen. It appears on the screen of my m200 but it's actually not hot and it doesn't shut my camera off. Well I guess it's just an icon after all.
I just got the m200 yesterday and for the life me I cannot get it to work! I have a capture card, I connect everything up it to obs recognises it in the video capture but I only get a black screen on obs....no video? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Ive tried with Eos webcam utility without any luck. Can someone please advise. Im on Mac btw
I wish I could help you, but I have zero experience with Mac and setting up any of these on that system. :( Hopefully someone else in the comments will be able to help!
if I am using a cannon eos m200 as a webcam, there is a timelimit? in teh web site says that record time limit si 29 minutes.... is diferrent from live stream fuction?
I've been asked this several times and I have heard of others having issues, but personally, I use it with no problems. One small note, I don't record while using it. Just using the hdmi out feature.
@@OMGItsDerek actually I wish I had watched your video three days ago! I got EOS 800D canon and then I realized that it doesn't support clean output HDMI and only when to switch off autofocus it does then I saw your video and got a second camera M200 :)))) now I have two DSLR and one is useful only.... :D I enjoy watching your content.
Hi again,I know you say no 4k but I tried to connect this camera to live stream in 4k but it shows black in Obs but all other resolutions show normally and work. Also in Obs there is no option to set resolution 2160. Do you know why?Thank you!
1080p @ 60 will eventually overheat and shutdown which is why even Canon says to use 1080p @ 30 as that will not happen. If you haven't already experienced it yourself on long streams.
I've never had an issue, but longest I stream is maybe 6 hours. Good to know tho. I did have it overheat on me one time when shooting actual video at 4k for a very long time.
@@OMGItsDerek I would love to know how you get 6-hours out of your M200? I can never get that far when using it for Teams meetings. Using 1080P @30 to HDMI out into an Elgato HD60S+ will always trip the red flashing camera after 1.5 - 2-hours. When reading the Advanced User Guide for the M200 page 485 states "The Limited Movie Recording icon" comes on is the camera is recording or on standby for too long..." I'm not recording, but using the Clean HDMI out. How are you getting past this limitation? I have tried battery power, external power, and several lenses. Same issue.
No idea man, it's kinda like most electronics. For example with CPUs there is a market of ones that are found to be more high clockable then others. I can only speak my results. I will say I'm in an air conditioned house lol A cool 70 degrees but beyond that...I dunno
@@OMGItsDerek I get such great compliments on the video from the M200. Especially, after using a whitbal card to get the color dialed in. Everyone wants to know why my video looks so much better. But, the 1.5-hour meeting limitation is getting irritating. I think I am about to pull the trigger and buy.a Sony A6100 and see if that works out better for me.
That's a great camera too and I will say people seem mixed about the m200. Like I said, I've had great success with it but it does seem like there's a lot of people that haven't.
You have done it once again! After I plugged my camera directly into my computer using an old USB cell phone cord and no capture card (thanks to your other video), things looked great. Better than my Logitech C930e (though I am not saying that looked bad). However, after applying these settings, it looks fantastic. Quite honestly, I think I like the portrait setting the most. I don't want all of my pores showing. LOL. Thanks again!
It has a record limit of 30 minutes. But as far as I know there are no limits if using it as a webcam. I say as far as I know because if you look in the comments there are people that are claiming it does, however, I've personally not had any issues with it. Again, it does have a record limit if you're actually recording meaning, after 30 mins you'll have to hit the record button again, but as a webcam, I've not had issues as you aren't actually recording to the camera when using it as one. Sorry I can't answer more definitively but with the amount of people that have gone back and forth in the comments about this, it's hard for me to give a concrete answer. As I've said to others, I've not had a problem with it personally.
You can either connect it via USB using Canon's Webcam Utility Software or via HDMI using a capture card like the camlink 4k by elgato. I may try to do a video on exactly how to do this, but it's pretty straight forward. You just plug it in with one of those cables and it will show up inside obs.
Thank youuuu sooo much! Please make one more to further explain for us morons how to use it for live stream.Thank you for simple explanation.Helped a lot and subscribed from gratitude
There are lots of people who are not skilled in setting this camera for live stream and Obs and sound. For example,I have no idea how to make sound good on Obs if I use desktop and external speakers. It is always off.And many have videos for that but innacurate and made for knowledgable Obs tech genious. Many need simple explanations
I have a video on sound and making your mic sound better already, let me link it for you. ua-cam.com/video/LsA0MmhaxjA/v-deo.html Let me know if that helps!
@@OMGItsDerek Thank you so much!I really respect how you explain simple to us and even I can understand.Do we need to add Audio in Sources or no?If we have external pc(not laptop) speakers ,do we need to leave default as you said?Thank you also for connecting with your fans as a real person
You can leave them as default. If they are set to default in OBS it will just use whatever source you have set in windows for your default input (mic) and default output (speakers). If you want to add each input and output separately in OBS you can, especially if you want it to be set manually you don't have to switch it in windows all the time. Either way works.
If I'm sitting at the desk with the cam at 50-60 cm from my face, is the "15-45 1:3.5-66.3 IS STM" lens sufficient to blur a background that is 2 meter behind me?
What resolution are you streaming with on your camera? Turning down the resolution can help. I've not personally had this issue with this camera besides actually recording for long periods of time with it.
Yo! I Started to setup a stream yesterday and I cant find a way to get rid of the AF in the screen (It just shows with a box that Im being Focused on the screen of both the camera and streamlabs) any tips on getting rid of the box? BTW, Wow dude, the dedication to your viewers, all comments have response 🤯😂
I tried the clean HDMI and is great, also the info button, its only the box that won’t disappear when I enter and move out of the focus range. Got the camera on Video mode and is not recording, is just there standing by (let it like that, cause it registers it in obs) If I need to change something please let me know
Hmmm, that's weird. You're using HDMI output from your camera and a device like a camlink? Make sure in your camera you have clean hdmi output selected as this should get rid of all that, let me know and I'm happy to keep helping troubleshoot!
@@OMGItsDerek Yup, M200 , even without the cable it shows the box. (Im using a insignia one cable btw) I know that is on that mode cause it says when I turn on the camera that” functions are limited when using the clean hdmi “setup. Which is confusing cause it supposed to do the work right?🧐
It creates the right type of motion blur that we are use to seeing in more traditional style media and has been the point that's been picked as the best for most viewers in terms of what they like the footage to look like if that makes sense.
@@OMGItsDerek I don't stream. I use this to record me playing drums. Songs are like 4 minutes... I do remakes like 3 times usually and by that time from starting and stop recording, it overheats.
Probably not. Some people in the comments seem to have a problem with this, some don't. I use it to stream 4+ hours at a time multiple days per week for months now with zero issues. You can use more than one capture device at the same time! Also, if you already ahve a capture card and you aint' using it for someting else you can use it. It doesn't have to be a cam link!
Okay, then you would need a second capture card and as I said you def can use two capture cards on one pc. as long as your pc can handle it! Obv the more stuff you add the more beast of a pc you need!
Canon lists the M200 as compatible with their webcam software that does not require a video capture adapter. You can connect directly with the usb cable www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility
If you're recording at 1080p 60fps this camera will overheat. It should not at 30fps. Also, I'm assuming you also mean recording. If you're using it as a webcam it shouldn't overheat.
@@OMGItsDerek, I get the overheating warning at 60fps. I set to 30fps then HDMI info disp to FHDR. No overheat issues yet. Although it seems that after selecting ‘HDMI Info Display’ it greys out the ability to select video quality. It will show the warning at 60fps but if you aren't recording it won't actually ever overheat. My flashes all the time but I use it all the time for hours and hours and zero problems

I have seen mixed comments about the unlimited runtime. I've used it for streaming with ZERO issues, however, I have heard others says something about unlimited runtime. I can only speak for myself. m200 doesn't have an external microphone. I use a standalone condenser microphone.
Hi sir, I don't know what you mean. I'm sorry. Not familiar with the term dummy. I use a dummy battery attached via AC power if that's what you mean. Something like this one on Amazon - amzn.to/3cCZv8z
It seems that's how it is for some people. Some people it seems to overheat for, some it doesn't. For me, I've not had that issue, at least not when using it for streaming. I do sometimes when I'm recording with it.
OMG It's Derek assume you’ve streamed for hours and it still hasn’t overheated? I’ve recommended the M200 to several people and the have all returned them because they overheated and shut down after 30 or so mins. All HDMI out all on a dummy batt.
Yep, you assume correctly. I'm not sure honestly. I've had some people tell em it overheats and some tell me it will display the overheating icon but never actually shuts off. Occasionally, mine will show the overheating icon but it never actually overheats. But normally. I don't have an issue.
No problem. I know a lot of people are picking up the canon m50 instead and seem to be having better luck with it. Or the Sony a6400 seems to be a highly recommended system as well
Interestingly enough, my m200, if you select clean FHD, automatically outputs 60 fps, no option to change it back to 30. Only way to change it back to 30, is by turning off the clean output.
We're less than 2 minutes into the video and you've said the phrase "the best settings for your canon m200 if you're using it as a replacement for your webcam on your livestream" no less than 3 times.
LOL
Here's what you need to connect it to your computer.
Elgato Cam Link - amzn.to/34WFyHh
Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable - amzn.to/2VRahl0
You will need a Micro HDMI to normal HDMI as well to connect the camera to the capture card as the Canon EOS M200 uses Micro HDMI.
Thanks!!!
Yes we neeed😎
When we do what you said in camera,do we need to adjust resolution or other things in obs like color or anything we already set in camera?
Think of it this way. Both work, if you're new setting it in camera is probably easiest and honestly canon's color science is good straight out of box. However, if you want more control and want to dial everything in to be a very specific look, you'll want to use filters or lut's in OBS to adjust things like contrast or color effects. If you understand how that stuff works I'd totally recommend trying it out or learning more about it as every little bit helps but again for 99% of people, canon out of the box is probably good enough!
@@OMGItsDerek Thank you.He smartest people explain complicated things in simple ways.Thank you
elgato to pricey, sad. any alternative for more affordable?
Just got an M200 for youtube/streaming and im glad i found this video! Thanks for the detailed explanation. It's a good starting off point for me.
ahhhh...one of the BEST videos I found for the setting on this camera. Have been searching YT for weeks for a video like this to walk-thru ..thank youuuuu
You're welcome! Glad I could help!
This literally saved me so much headache. So freaking educational and spot on! Thank you for making this!
Did you ever get this resolved
Very clear instructions. Thank you for helping to set up the camera.I have cooking channel & have one question - my recorded clips ( with canon EOS M200)some times flicker and closeups are not clear. Why so? whats the solution?
Great video! Does the m200 have unlimited runtime while streaming? I know many of the Canons are capped at 30min.
For streaming yes, I've used it for hours with no problem. You do have to make sure to turn off eco mode and stuff in the settings!

There's a setting in the camera that say eco mode
BROTHA IM NEW TO THIS CAMERA CAN U HELP ME OUT
What's up?
@@OMGItsDerek bro does this camera have a automatic ajust
Yep, you can set everything to auto, just won't look as good but will still look better than a webcam
This really helped me out, thank you so much!
So glad I could help you out my friend! Have a great day and let me know if you run in to any issues and need any further help!
Very descriptive and helpful. Just got an m200 and you’re my go to guy for info now!
Awesome, glad it helped! Been using it for quite some time now for streaming and I love it!
Hi, Maybe I missed it... but is there an 'auto-shut-off' that needs to disable on this camera (many Canons shut off after 30 min and it can't be disabled). Thanks!
You must turn off eco mode!
Thanks a lot, I just got this camera and your video helped a lot.
Awesome, hope you enjoy the camera Make sure you come back and let me know how it works out for you
Thanks so much for this brilliant video: I use the canon m200 with EOS web utility for ZOOM meetings . Unfortunately the video has a black frame around and is smaller than the picture of the colleagues in the meeting . Any idea how to fix that? Season greetings from Cologne, Germany.
Limitation of eos web utility: If you use a capture card, you don't get that black borders.
Hi, I don't know if you can still answer this comment but which lens are you using on your camera? My camera has the original lens but I want to know which one you are using.

There should just be an option for that as well tbh I have more be mounted and haven't used the menus in so long that I can't remember haha

What was it in case some else is having the same problem
@@OMGItsDerek i just changed the hdmi info disp to FHD and it doesnt show the square another question though Derek is the only way to change the brightness with the ISO?
Awesome thanks for letting me know. No you can also change the brightness with the shutter speed and the aperture they all work together to allow light in or out of the camera.
Look up the light exposure triangle
how do i change the shutter speed? like on the camera itself?
The number that says 1/another number is your shutter speed....so 1/60 is a 60 shutter speed. So if your recording 1080p at 30fps you'd want a 1/60 shutter speed.
Thank you. I just purchased this camera and had no idea how to set it up

Take out the SD card and don't use the display panel in selfie mode.
Thank you for sharing is very helpful .
Of course! Thanks for subbing!
Hey! Thanks for the video!
Do you know any solution to keep the camera charging (via USB?) while streaming via HDMI?
Most cameras do not allow you to charge via usb. Some newer ones are starting to, however, the m200 is not one of those. Here is what i use, not just for the m200, but for all my cameras! amzn.to/2Xd4ic2
@@OMGItsDerek Thanks for replying :) Yeah, I ended up ordering a similar one... It's a pity this small feature is missing and that it is so hard to find the respective official product from Canon.
Yeah, I agree. I think in the next year or two we will see most adopting usb-c ports which allow charging while using.

Of course, let me know if you need any other help.
Hey bud. how do you get this m200 to not turn off after 30 seconds due to overheating?
Not sure, I don't have an issue with it overheating unless I'm actually recording 4k or 1080p 60fps directly to the camera. If I'm just using the hdmi out and not actually recording this camera does not overheat for me!
@@OMGItsDerek maybe that's my issue.

Hey, how do you solve the overheating issue of Canon Eos m200?
As I said, it's not something I've had an issue with, hopefully someone who did will be able to help in the comments. I only have issues with this camera overheating if I'm trying to record video for long periods of time, not if I'm just using it for streaming.
If you're still having issues with this, make sure you are outputting to your PC (which is separate from the Recording setting) at FHD 1080p or 720p, and not 4K.. 4K will cause it to overheat.
Yep 100%, there is no need to be doing 4k! Great suggestion and one I didn't think of as I naturally just set mine to 1080p haha! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Hello Derek I have a question for you why my camera m200 start to auto turn off ? Do you know if there is a setting to change ? thx
Yep, there's a setting that n the camera I believe under Eco.
8:55 what means a little videocamera red icon blinking while I'm doing a Livestream? 🥹

No idea, had someone else mention this the other day. Wonder if they are selling a lot with a diff lens now?
@@OMGItsDerek I figured it out. It changes when you adjust the zoom on the stock lens. Thanks for the response.

OMG It's Derek - Do you need any extra cables to stream? (power supply)

Glad to hear it and just a thought but maybe you could turn off eye autofocus and just use the normal type of focusing.
i got the same camera and i use a cam link. the problem is the cam link shows the screen and the screen turns off every 30 mints, the camera doesn't have a option to shut it off, how do i stop from pressing the screen every 30 mints??

Basically you use a battery that has a power cable attacked to it. They sell them on Amazon for fairly cheap. ~20 USD. It's probably because the camera can do 4k in the beta program. Also if the option isn't in OBS your computer probably isn't in 4k
1080p @ 60 will eventually overheat and shutdown which is why even Canon says to use 1080p @ 30 as that will not happen. If you haven't already experienced it yourself on long streams.

@@OMGItsDerek Of course! I hope more people find you. You have the easiest to follow videos.
Aww thank you for such the nice compliment! I'm just happy to help people that run in to the same problems and questions I run in to haha!
Does this camera have limit to 30 minutes?
@@OMGItsDerek Thanks for this info man. Canon should pay you for this. haha
My pleasure and while paychecks are always nice, it's also nice to just be able to use whatever gear I want when I want haha!
@@OMGItsDerek Yah exactly. Thanks man. You got my subs.
@@OMGItsDerek I forgot to ask. Is it a direct in from camera to HDMI or USB Port?
I'm streaming via an OBS and with the USB it recognises it but I'm having issues doing via wifi...
You can't use it as a wireless webcam or via WiFi. You need an HDMI to mini HDMI cable and a capture card that can accept it to use.
you dont need a capture card with M200 - use Web Utility from canon
True, but the canon software limits you to like 500p at 30fps. If you want 1080p at 60fps you still need one!
@@OMGItsDerek Ohh i see - thanks ✔ for the info,
No problem sir!
thank you this video really helps me a lot, and please make another video about how to connect this canon eos m200 mirrorless camera to your pc
You can either connect it via USB using Canon's Webcam Utility Software or via HDMI using a capture card like the camlink 4k by elgato. I may try to do a video on exactly how to do this, but it's pretty straight forward. You just plug it in with one of those cables and it will show up inside obs.
@@OMGItsDerek got it, thank you very much sir :)
No problem, glad to help!
Thank youuuu sooo much! Please make one more to further explain for us morons how to use it for live stream.Thank you for simple explanation.Helped a lot and subscribed from gratitude
Yes! I have it planned as I noticed a lot of people asking in the comments so make sure to subscribe!
I have a video on sound and making your mic sound better already, let me link it for you. ua-cam.com/video/LsA0MmhaxjA/v-deo.html
Let me know if that helps!
Eh not by much! Won't be very heavy blue but will be slightly. You'd need a better lens with a much smaller aperture!
overheat problems... why... can u help me?
You are using the m200 right? Just double checking
@@OMGItsDerek Yup, M200 , even without the cable it shows the box. (Im using a insignia one cable btw)
I know that is on that mode cause it says
when I turn on the camera that” functions are limited when using the clean hdmi “setup. Which is confusing cause it supposed to do the work right?🧐
Yep, that's exactly right. Let me look at my settings real quick here in a few and get back to you!
I hear this 'shutter being double the framerate' but.. why? I get why you would not like to get below 1/60 for 60fps but why 1/125?
It creates the right type of motion blur that we are use to seeing in more traditional style media and has been the point that's been picked as the best for most viewers in terms of what they like the footage to look like if that makes sense.
thank you !!
You're welcome :)
i can't even record longer than 10 minutes and i use it from drum covers. sometime i do retakes . overheats. ridiculous
While streaming? This is about streaming with it?
@@OMGItsDerek I don't stream. I use this to record me playing drums. Songs are like 4 minutes... I do remakes like 3 times usually and by that time from starting and stop recording, it overheats.
@@OMGItsDerek I know this is about streaming but to give an idea how thos doesn't even come close to good function
But this is a video about streaming with it......? So I'm just a bit confused...
My m200 overheats after about an hour and a half of streaming at 1080 60fps is there any way to fix this?
Probably not. Some people in the comments seem to have a problem with this, some don't. I use it to stream 4+ hours at a time multiple days per week for months now with zero issues. If you're making sure your screen turns off and isn't on all the time and everything else I mentioned in the video, I'm not sure what else can be done.
Make sure your screen is flipped open as this let's heat disappate easier and also have it turn off after one minute
Oh yeah I always have mine up, never really thought about whether that helps or not. Good suggestion!
thanks!
I have my camera setup with a USB cable, but when i'm in streamlabs OBS my camera isnt there as an option to choose for my webcam please help @OMG it's Derek :(
Hey guys, I've had several people ask me about how to actually hook up the camera to their computer.
Maybe I should have mentioned in the video that you need a capture card to capture a DSLR or mirror-less camera to your computer. This video was more about the best settings, but maybe I need to make one on how to actually set it up and what all you need. Subscribe as that video is probably coming!!!
Thanks everyone!
OMG It's Derek I have a capture card but i heard you can’t have both a capture card and cam link on same tine
You can use more than one capture device at the same time! Also, if you already ahve a capture card and you aint' using it for someting else you can use it. It doesn't have to be a cam link!
@@OMGItsDerek I am using my capture card to record gameplay
Okay, then you would need a second capture card and as I said you def can use two capture cards on one pc. as long as your pc can handle it! Obv the more stuff you add the more beast of a pc you need!
Canon lists the M200 as compatible with their webcam software that does not require a video capture adapter. You can connect directly with the usb cable www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility
Yes, they just released this! It won't be as good of quality as a capture card but I have a video coming out on this new software this week!
I've just bought an M200 and I'm recording at 1080p and getting overheating issues. Anyone else experiencing the same issues? Or any tips? Thanks.
Does that suggest the Canon M200 overrides whatever you set and defaults to a certain FPS through HDMI?
It will show the warning at 60fps but if you aren't recording it won't actually ever overheat. My flashes all the time but I use it all the time for hours and hours and zero problems
@@OMGItsDerek, That’s actually awesome to know! Most of my streams are 90mins. What’s the longest you’ve run for? I’m always worried that it’ll shut off in the middle of a stream. Or worse - explode! 😂
I've run 6 hours. And minimum is normally 4 hours. And I stream three times a week and a podcast. And I've been doing that for quite some time. :)
I read review
This camera can live streaming unlimited timerun unlike m50
I want to buy this camera my friends recommend it if u just use for live stream or record game play with face and mic.
Did it use dummy for unlimited timerun?
And i read m200 dont have external microphone
How to sync my usb consender mic to face cam while obs stream?
Im still newbie and dont now how to stream
I have seen mixed comments about the unlimited runtime. I've used it for streaming with ZERO issues, however, I have heard others says something about unlimited runtime. I can only speak for myself.
m200 doesn't have an external microphone. I use a standalone condenser microphone.
@@OMGItsDerek did it use dummy too for stream? Or canon own adaptor can run stream long time like 8 hours without battery ?
Hi sir, I don't know what you mean. I'm sorry. Not familiar with the term dummy. I use a dummy battery attached via AC power if that's what you mean. Something like this one on Amazon - amzn.to/3cCZv8z
@@OMGItsDerek yeah, thats what i mean. Thx bro
@@TheMoltrezz You're welcome!
It's kinda funny, my Eos m200 has just a resolution FHD 50.00 fps not 59.94 fps and no firmware update in sight.

Of course man, my pleasure!
love ya thanks
Thank you! I'm considering the M200 as one of my choices for streaming
No problem. If you decide to pick it up, make sure you come back and let me know how it works for you and what you think of it!
It's a great little camera for sure in my opinion!
i just bought a EOS M100 does it support live streaming?
Any camera with an HDMI out can be used with a capture card. I'm not sure if it has clean HDMI out or not tho. That's what you'll need to find out.
Mine gets overheated :(
It seems that's how it is for some people.
@@OMGItsDerek shame it's inconsistent. it's been my go to recommendation. and priced so right. thanks for the info my man.
It should depend on the settings you have selected in camera before turning clean hdmi on.
We're less than 2 minutes into the video and you've said the phrase "the best settings for your canon m200 if you're using it as a replacement for your webcam on your livestream" no less than 3 times. I think I get it dude I think I know what this video is meant to explain now, no need to mention it a fourth time.
Find another video of ya don't like mine? Not that hard.
