The way they stare into each others eyes and the camera cuts back and forth on extreme close ups. also the way Spock sorta (cant deny it) smiles, and Kirks loving, flirty smile. Plus the way their faces 'glow' due to the lights (often done when there is a romantic scene between two people on star trek) nad the way Kirk seems annoyed by Rand and McCoy just watching them C: Not to mention the eyes, and the eyes again. and OH THE WAY THEY STARE INTO EACH OTHERS EYES!
I love the way kirk switches back into serious-business mode in the end, like "whoooops, there are other people here?" Cracks me up every time. thanks for uploading this :)
spock- *puppydogeyes*"...and I DO want to go back to the ship...captain." kirk - *biggaygrin* "of course mr.spock." sweet mother of moses this is DRIPPING in slash!!
Shatner has also stated he and Gene never intended to portray them as gay/bi. I recall Kirk had a personal rule about not being involved with his crew. Spock is part of the crew.
Nice try, Captain! Not obvious at all, nope. Love the 'oops, there are people here!' moment. 'Eyesex later. :(' And Rand's little glare of jealousy there made me giggle. McCoy, naturally, is by this point immune to and unfazed by the sexual tension.
I love how Spock and Kirk are flirting shamelessly and then you see Kirk's smile drop as he looks back over at random blonde woman and McCoy. It's like he's thinking "I am so getting som-Oh shit, audience!"
YES! I had noticed it too; glad I'm not the only one that thinks this is extremely slashy. The looks they give each other!! Not just, "Oh, yeah, we all want to get back to the Enterprise." That goes without saying! This little exchange is definitely imbued with additional meaning. Thanks for posting!
If people are allowed to ship Harry and Hermione I really don't understand why some Trekkies get so bothered by the Kirk/Spock interpretation. Getting all hot and bothered about how it "ruins" the friendship and then claiming you aren't homophobic is a bit hard to believe. It didn't seem to bother Roddenberry and it doesn't bother Nimoy or Kirk so stop being so goddamn immature about it.
Actually Roddenberry confirmed Spirk as Canon more than once.. Which makes the butthurt from Spirk Haters all that much more hilarious.. Roddenberry literally created the term T'hy'la with the definition of Friend/Brother/LOVER and applied it to Jim and Spock Roddenberry confirmed that he took what most would consider the most perfect man and then split him into three people Jim, Spock and Bones.. With Jim being the spirit, Spock being the brain and Bones being the heart the three of them make up one person so very literally Spock and Kirk were made to fit together as a whole and Bones was always meant to be the best friend (heart) that they could both confide in and trust in with their secret.. Roddenberry literally considered making Kirk female with specific intentions to be Spock's love interest.. So Spirk Haters can hate all they want.. Spirk WAS and IS Canon because the actual Creator of the Characters said so..
@@darlene3d Great thank you! ☺️ ❤️❤️❤️ Do you maybe have any Source Material from Gene Roddenberry on Kirk and Spock? I would so love to read more next to the Th'y'la Thing and the Quote from the Alexander and Hephaistion Interview. 🙏🙏🙏
I don't know abut anyone else, but for me this is the slashiest of the slash and the sexiest of the eyesex in all of TOS. This is no other explanation for this moment other than they are sexing each other, big time back on that ship ;)
@marissolguerra And then there's my favourite Roddenberry quote of all time: "Yes, there's certainly some of that - certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal - we never suggested in the series - physical love between the two. But it's the - we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century." Yes, he is talking about Kirk and Spock! Google it if you don't believe me :)
@ChristyDaae You are SO RIGHT. Seriously. Like, Nimoy's one line, "Thrusters on full," and the absolute *tenderness* that saturates that line. AND that line wasn't even in the script, but they gave Nimoy the go-ahead to say it anyway. That man is GENIUS.
Plus in the reboot cast there's Chris Pine (Kirk) who has played gay/bisexual characters and Zachary Quinto (Spock) who is openly gay. So it's definitely possible they would be open to a romantic interpretation of the relationship. In any case, Spock and Kirk's relationship is one of the most important elements of the show I feel and they are soul mates, whether platonic or not, and right up there with the best of romances. Let's face it, Spock is the longest relationship Kirk has had.
Actually Bones would've been the longest relationship Kirk had.. Because Jim knew Bones and was Besties with Bones before either of them even knew Spock.. But.. The three of them became very close.. Normally I would usually pick Spirk before McSpirk or Spones.. But...in real truth there was as much chemistry and flirting between Spock and Bones and between Jim and Bones as there was between Spock and Jim.. So while Spirk IS Canon because even Gene Roddenberry himself basically said Spirk was indeed Canon, he pretty much also basically said McSpirk was Canon as well so Bones was part of Jim's life longer than Spock and thus Bones would have been the longest relationship Jim ever had even if he shared that same relationship with Spock as well
Chapel looks like shes saying "get your hands off my man" at the end, and McCoy looks like he's embarrassed, like he's been watching something he wasn't supposed too...haha ;)
@Abena20 LOL maybe so, but come on those dreamy stares are so intentional on the directors part. Especially :23 onward. The way he said captain is so unnecessarily seductive, and that look Kirk sent him. Come on, even if you don't want to see slash you have to see the humor in it.
It really was mainly the actors putting in this subtle homosexual undertones. I think that's great, too. This show was so far ahead of its time! I love the original Star Trek. Nothing beats it.
@frederickbabyyeah I've always picked up on it, but in the early days I believed it was just my own obsession with slash (which I didn't know even existed!). So I was just happy with each scene where they portrayed a close relationship. Little did I know!
@marissolguerra First of all I laughed and giggles like a little girl after watching this. But i laughed even hard at : "I don't really see Roddenbery saying "now you have eye sex and then you--" made my day
@marissolguerra I agree; Spock being an outsider is an essential part of his character. The thing with Uhura sort of stuck out like a sore thumb (I'll give him the turbolift scene, since he was ambushed, but snogging on the transporter pad in front of everyone seemed really out of place to me -- really Spock?) Personally I hope they don't continue the Spock/Uhura thing in the next movie.
@sondano I think the people who worked on the new movie new quite well that no one could ever play the original characters quite as well as the original cast, and I'm guessing that's why they didn't only make the characters younger - it's also an AU. Pine's Kirk and Shatner's Kirk aren't the same character - they've had completely different lives. I think that was the writers way of saying 'let's give the kid a break'.
@xBeatCity WOW, okay first of all, can we at least agree to disagree and please let us have an opinion? Second, Rodenberry already said their relationship was portrayed with love overtones, and that it didn't have a physical element only because "that wasn't the style of the 23rd century" ie THE SIXTIES. So please calm down and accept that, while you can be against it, we're not just making this stuff up, okay? And thirdly, they're not gay, they're bisexual! XD
@yellowtoybox876 I think they had a clue, but when talking at general conventions and so on, they always dismiss it, and choose to talk about how "Kirk always got the girl" instead (when that's not how the series went!). Very frustrating
You people are so dirty minded. They represented the loyality and unbreakable friendship of two people. And you think that they are gay?🤦🏻♂️ You don't know what the friendship is.
Not to show my ego or anything. Iam capable of deep thinking and being intuitive, thank you. I ship them, while at the same time knows they're not CLEARLY a thing. Getting a bit narrow-minded there, are we😏?
I think they sometimes forget that there are other people around them XD bless this scene.
The way they stare into each others eyes and the camera cuts back and forth on extreme close ups.

I'm not sure why Miri was jealous of Rand in this episode. By the looks of this she should have been jealous of Spock.
spock- *puppydogeyes*"...and I DO want to go back to the ship...captain."
kirk - *biggaygrin* "of course mr.spock."
sweet mother of moses this is DRIPPING in slash!!
Bill Shatner is the master of innuendo and covert flirting. Just a certain look from him and you know he's thinking naughty.
Shatner has also stated he and Gene never intended to portray them as gay/bi. I recall Kirk had a personal rule about not being involved with his crew. Spock is part of the crew.
I love the added little "...Captain." at the start of the slashy bit. >D
Yeah, can't call him honey in front of everyone
Nice try, Captain! Not obvious at all, nope. Love the 'oops, there are people here!' moment. 'Eyesex later. :(' And Rand's little glare of jealousy there made me giggle. McCoy, naturally, is by this point immune to and unfazed by the sexual tension.
How can people say Spock has no emotions? Look at his face! He's clearly emoting!
Wow this totally went over my head at the time! "I DO want to go back to the ship, captain..." Squeee
I don't think I've ever looked at my best friend like that : )
I love how Spock and Kirk are flirting shamelessly and then you see Kirk's smile drop as he looks back over at random blonde woman and McCoy. It's like he's thinking "I am so getting som-Oh shit, audience!"
The pause, the smile, the back and forth shots of them staring - seriously, what's their deal???😉
Ship indeed
YES! I had noticed it too; glad I'm not the only one that thinks this is extremely slashy. The looks they give each other!! Not just, "Oh, yeah, we all want to get back to the Enterprise." That's Janice Rand, not Nurse Chapel!
Cannon. Got love it.
I actually hate this episode but I love this part. I also liked Janice Rand's character. ;]
As an 11 y.o. girl in 1966, I was so disappointed when she suddenly disappeared from the show.
OH FOR CHRISTS SAKE. i still dont understand how people DONT PICK UP ON THIS!!!.. *squees queitly in corner*
squee! This is the most fabulously slashy scene ever.
God, my HEART. This is so sweet I'm getting diabetes.
I, too, missed this the first time I watched the episode! I can't believe it. It's so hot!

Oh god. Really.
ITS CANON. D:
SO CUTE OTP
UM...UM...UMMMMMM THIS SCENE THOUGH
oooohhh look at them!! The looks they exchange....so hot!
@iTrekz You just described Spocks voice SO perfectly..... I am intensely in love with him. I don't mind if Kirk wants him too though... We can share
Hmm... when I get my laptop fixed, I'll have to add this along with two other scenes to my re-vamped version of this: Kirk/Spock love scenes (slash)
haha Rand looks angry :P god people in the 60s were really blind, i wonder what they thought of this scene XD
@frederickbabyyeah I've always picked up on it, but in the early days I believed it was just my own obsession with slash (which I didn't know even existed!). So I was just happy with each scene where they portrayed a close relationship. Little did I know!
This has to be the MOST suggestive scene ever to be filmed in Star Trek. That eyeing needs a whole rating to protect younger viewers
