How to Build a Bushcraft Fish Smoker - Day 20 of 30 Day Survival Challenge Canadian Rockies
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2024
- Greg focuses on his upgraded primitive bushcraft fish smoker, then he and Fowler build out their grizzly bear safe tree fort shelter platforms.
There's only one rule for the 30 Day Survival Challenge: If you want to eat, you got to Catch and Cook it.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

"If the girls don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy" is something that I will use on a regular basis from now on :D
Red Green coined that phrase
@@regalbowman3143 was about to day the same thing.
Him and Red would've gotten along great I bet 🤣
Yukels I was literally scrolling through the comments then I saw yours then he said that beautiful statement
Perfect timinh
Best advice i got Till yet.
😂😂😂😂
I happened to stumble across your channel this morning and it made my day. It's been raining for weeks here in Sweden where I live so I instead of getting totaly soaked and lose my spirit I stayed inside and watch every episode I could find. You are truly an inspiration and have great knowledge about plants and taking advantage of what nature can offer. A humble man with a big heart for what living is all about. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventure with Zach.
Hi. I really like Sweden nature and landscapes
He’s Greg the other guy is Zach
Thanks again guys. The angrier this world becomes, the sweeter is the escape with you to the Rocky Mountains. I really should have been watching these videos in sequence. With gratitude...
I was introduced to the characters of Greg and Zach by a friend who thought I would like the "Alone" survival show. When I stumbled onto Greg's show I immediately messaged the link to my camping buddy. We both spent a wet weekend each watching Greg on Zach's 30 day survival challenge in the Rockies. Really a great watch because its true to life without a dozen people in the background filming, recording sound and handling production. Just love and interactions between Greg and Zach and Greg's one liners and desparations when hungry or cold. Now there's a book. "Greg Oven's Philosopy of Life".
Ohhh yes! It's 2022 and I'm rewatching Greg's series😌
@@HailSatanOurLordAndSavior It was a great trip
Gregg we are so lucky to have you on youtube, you are a gemstone full of positivity. God be with you bud 👊🏽
The punk rock bit with Greg crafting made me incredibly happy. Thank you.
how could anyone possibly dislike one of these videos
I'm assuming it has something to do with the montage song 😂
Richard Vienneau true true that shit was brutal to listen to😂
@@richardvienneau1266 😱😂😜
Not going to lie this was my favorite episode regardless 😆
People who can't live off the land even a little bit lol
I love the instant notification, so I know its available to watch. Winters in MN are filled with dull hours of waiting for footage from these guys. (I know, I can still go outside too, but I am scrawny and I hate the cold.) Live vicariously through Greg for the moment to pass the time until thaw
You should come down to Florida the coldest it has gotten since January 1st 2019 has only been 50 degrees 👌it's beautiful but if you don't like the heat in the summer you might not like it but fishing is great
@@josiahw3219 that sounds dreamy. I actually do quite well in the heat.
Remember men if the women don’t find you handsome, they better find you handy. EPIC , watching every episode great video Greg.
So true
Red Greg 😂
He's quoting Red Green, from the Red Green show
@@williamm1981 We got that down here in the Seattle area, and I absolutely loved it! Even went to go see the movie, the only place in the States they showed it. (Worth the hour-long drive.)
True words, that's why I am off the street
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones
And Merry Christmas to a who is reading this
Greetings from a Belgian bushcrafter
???I love these 30 day challenge's Zach anf Greg has done..I've watched every episode???
Love these videos! Watched from both yours and Fowler's perspective. I'm liking and commenting on each vid to show my support. Keep up with quality footage and videos like this and you will be a YT Sensation.
Watching every episode of this series Greg and Fowler the editor.
And Greg is absolutely right about thinning some of the stand, littering, and especially forest fire prevention!
I'm a big fan Greg. My wife and I have watched all of your videos thus far. Looking forward to the rest for sure. The scenery is amazing. Thanks for the great entertainment!
"At least they should find you handy!" I'm a fan of "The Red and Green Show" too! Your's and Zach's videos make my day. I look forward to each and every future episode. Thank You!
Thank you so much for mentioning fire safety. And the vulnerability of the forests. Its very important these days for people to be extra responsible for thier fires amongst other things. I love watching your show. I also watch Zach's show. I watch many other channels as well. And I can really tell that you care about the wilderness and how important it is to you. Anyway, thanks again for teaching people about fire safety and nature conservation.
We really appreciate you here in Oregon.
Looking forward to more videos, stories and lessons.
20 days deep into survival mode, still extensively advocates on camera for caring after the land and to take dead trees rather than the best trees 👌👌💪💪
Never seen a fish be used as a broom before. I learn all kinds of great things from Greg. Thanks Greg!
"I'm watching every episode." I love watching you guys build stuff
I am watching every episode I can. Thank you guys for all your hard work it's like a 20 min vacation every episode.
as someone with major depression, there is something so relaxing about these videos thank you greg
Right. I look forward to the uploads.
@@serenepeacefulrelaxingmusi3874 Not always the case. Been suffering with it for 20 odd years if it wasn't for my kids i wouldn't be here now and even with my kids i still suffer extreme depression i just wouldn't leave them without a parent.
@@budman8926 ditto if it weren't for my boys I would be long gone at least disappeared into the woods. But it seems like Bushcraft, which I've been into for 40 years and just being in the mountains away from people or even a day that helps me mentally. But when I have to go back to work in the suburbs, it quickly returns and is more Savage. I think it takes a major life change which we have to have the courage to walk away and start over in a place we want to be. British Columbia has always been a bucket list trip for me, I've decided this year I'm going to do it instead of talk about it for years.
@@Americanparty1856 rampant depression, and the fact that it's alleviated by some time in nature says something about how our world is and how we live now. There's a quote in Orwells 1984 I can't think of exactly that talks about not knowing how we should live or feel, but that there is a screaming voice inside us telling us this isn't how we are supposed to be.
Been enjoying the series. Glad you two have met and become friends. Looking forward to the blooper episode. We could watch hour long episodes. Just a thought. Have a great day sir.
Thanks for the update guys. As of all my comments be safe and have a wonderful time in the great outdoors. Stay well. 😊✌️
Greg, you're better than I can say. Thanks for making these.
5 minutes in and we get a red green reference
I love your knowledge on forestry . Your exactly right about culling weaker trees to save the stronger ones. This is a simplistic explanation of how this all works and it's probably way to complicated for Californians. I should also add that I think Greg is awesome!
Watching the 30’day survival challenge since episode one. And still here boys.
these are so cool, no bad advice, real, raw surviving all these other survival shows try too hard to be flashy but this is so much more interesting especially the knowledge of plants for me. thanks greg!
14:44 Compass & Cavern "I Can't Complain" Perfect!
fuckin beauty
Busy day ,sunshine brings a better mood which produces productivity . I'm watching every episode .
"I'm watching every episode!" Great job!
Its getting better and better Greg. Thanks for taking us along for the adventure.
Seeing the smoked fish has again made me hungry.
I'm watching EVERY episode!😀🎣🌲💚🐟. Now I have my family watching and they love it. 💕
“If she don’t find you handsome, she’ll at least find you handy “ my motivation
A roll of duct tape and some tarps goes a long ways with the ladies :)
that van needs to be added to the series.... 30 days in the upper decker van!
red green
A haircut, clean shave, eyebrow waxing, shower, manicure, and he'll be handsome.
@@yeah4me1 You don't want a man. You're looking for a boy, who acts like a woman. You and whole herds of women who think the same.
What a great job on the smoker! Thinning out the trees is good for the environment you are right. Where are you guys are you are correct you have a lot of vegetation for building, fires so on and so forth. Can't wait to see the finished product and moving day up into the trees!
Great videos greg. Keep them coming after the challenge is done please
I can't believe you did 30 days!!!!! That's amazing! And all those plants you knew were edible 😲. And all those BIG fish you caught. I'm really impressed. Great job!! Now I need to finish all your videos begining to end. Bravo!
💕
One Canadian, to another, to another. It's a damn good thing I'm handy.
I'm not too handy, but at least the girls find me handsome. lol
I'm not too handy. Too bad my dad left when I was 7 and my mom was a crack addict
That one tip you gave about clearing the weaker trees to help thin the bush is very helpful! I’ve learned so much I can use when I go dispersed camping here in Michigan for the first time.
I love his personality man lol
Yeah he looks like he could be a friend...
For sure
“I’m watching every episode”. Every single one of these videos always gives me a reason to smile. They are a great addition to my day. Thanks!
The Mint plant is a natural bug repellent. Don't know if it grows wild in the rockies.
Thanks for this, always good to pick up new tips
Might keep bugs away but pretty sure bears like it.
Thanks for the tip, I have lived in 32 states so far and most of that out side camping big into primitive Bush craft . I'll definitely try it ,,,witching hour is miserable. Lol
watched and loving every episode .. love you Greg and Zac .. thanks for keeping us introverts and some extroverts entertained.
Red green not many people will get that one bear man Greg
I got it... LOL
Not many outside of Canada you mean...
It's still on here in the states sometimes. I grew up watching it with my dad here in ohio
Watching EVERY episode... I like the combination of survival and Bushcraft with Greg and Fowler. This smoker is sweet and I'll be attempting in my camping trip coming up
The music part is not needed, Greg is all I need, less music, more Greg, he is an interesting fella.
GREG! Love these Primitive Skills videos. Making traps, Smokers, Ect. Ect.
Keep em coming, love learning about bush living.
Am I the only one noticing a little Jack Sparrow in his D.N.A..... LOL
Matt Johnson dude you NAILED IT! I was trying to figure out who he reminded me of and Captain Jack is definitely it!
Lmmfao!
At 1:00 Minute you can hear it. YARRRR!
You mean Keith Richards.😉
@@scottmccullough4267 hahaha that mean...
Smoked trout. Oh man that looks great Greg. Red n green show. Watched that show growing up as a kid. Loved it. Good memories.
Mosquitos. The only thing I do not like about the outdoors.
Kenney Ruyle every time I’m in the woods
If you have any Yarrow, rub it on any exposed skin, they don`t like it.
I like how you still show when you stumble, makes it a lot more relatable to watch i guess.
i wish greg chose the music for these. this awful song really doesn’t seem to fit his personality
I agree, He needs some Bad Company, Fog Hat, and Doobies
Too true!
CCR would be nice.
i agree with all these. they wouldn’t have permission to use those bands, but there could at least be some non-copyrighted music that is similar to them and to greg’s personality instead of the horrible cringe ty pop rock in this
The episodes, Greg and Zach are all awesome but I agree. Some of the music is just awful. Especially this episode. I'd rather hear silence as they work or even hear what they are saying when they say something.
Some blues/guitar smooth chords would be perfect , this guy is so proper and so easy going , need something that fits him more , totaly agree on your opinion
Greg, you're always such a great mix of wisdom and humour. A Red Green reference too! Watching every episode.
Can't stop watching this ,second evening of pure joy for me , congratulations guys , love from Belgium 👍💓
Watching all of your 30 day Canadian Rocky challenge videos. Great to watch every step in the creation of your journey. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Like how you explained your tree harvesting so many people do not understand it’s good for the forests to select harvest. The videos are great do not miss an episode
By far the best 30 day challenge! I've watched every episode and can't wait for the next! I don't want it to end! Love learning from ya Greg. God bless
Greg every time I see you, it just looks like you have stories for days.
A nice fire some beers or hard liquor and I can hear them all night.
Me and my husband have watched all your videos's.They are a pleasure to watch, keep it up!
Going the extra mile for the good taste of the fish. Nice!!! 👍👍👍
Love Watching Fowler...and your a great New teacher as well..watching you this morning and my Wife said he is cute... Stay manly excited fir more teaching especially in foraging..
Thanks for sharing the adventure .. your channels gonna blow up
I’m watching every episode. I love that Greg is such a minimalist
Hey your videos kick ass dude. The fact that you are teaching about indigenous edible plants and how to locate and cook them is awesome. I'm actually going to make a journal on what I learned. And I've watched a bunch of bush craft and survivel videos but you come across the best for me too take most seriously.
There's no facade and that's awesome. Keep up the good work bro. 👍
Thanks Mike love shareing knowledge of plants
I'm watching every episode. I am glad to see your tree fort is coming along so well and you also had time to make another smoker.
I work in the woods everyday here in Newfoundland CANADA. During the summer time I build a small fire and put perosium moss on it to create smoke, this keeps the flies away all day while working. Have a Merry one and tfs!
You're the best Greg, please make more content!!! We need more of you.
I'm just lovin this seasons series. Good to be able to watch both channels content. TY Mr Fowler for Gregs edits. Go easy on the bloopers lol
Teamwork is a wonderful thing. Keep up the good work. Watching every episode so far and plan on watching the whole series on both channels.
Stopped back by to wish you a Merry Christmas! Having a great time watching!Enjoy!
Thanks for that exciting day 20 again guys ,,im so much excited again for the day 21😊
Hey.greg,zach.i can't stop watching you guys on this amazing adventure.you both are amazing.god bless you both..love,hugs from London uk.🙏🤗😘xx
Hello! I'm enjoying watching your 30-day challenge Canadian Rockies - Watched Day 20 - I'm watching every episode.
Looking forward to the Greg's Bloopers Reel .... (love how Zach edited this clip ... too funny)
I've learned so many bush crafting skills just from Greg's videos
I’m watching every episode. It’s interesting to see the smokers come together. Hope to make one soon.
Everyone should have this life saving skill and do this every year. ( not necessarily 30 days but at least a week).
I died laughing when you used the fish as a brush for the firepit. AWESOME!
I just love how much more footage your filming as this series goes on! Every episode just gets that more real feeling like we get to go along with you on the adventure. Lol “What are we up to tomorrow Greg?” Day 21!!! Looking forward to it!
Really good stuff you and Fowler are doing. Keep up the great work. I’m watching all of your and Fowler’s stuff!
I love Zach man he seems like such a calm and relatable dude..Greg's awesome duh but Zach don't get enough credit. I'd do this challenge if I had the opportunity
I started watching the show ALONE when I saw Greg as a contestant on season 3- WOOT!!
We really enjoy the detailed identification of eatable plants. Wasting 1/2 the fish eggs you had was the lowest point in your 30 days for us. Natures perfect food, containing all of the ingredients for life, just fumbled away. The best "medicine" for man or beast, when sick or lacking in an essential element. One of the most expensive foods on the planet "pissed away." Sad day for anyone, never mind one trying to survive.
Still watching all the episodes here and on Fowlers channel!! Keep them coming i love the survival challenge vids!!!
I'm watching the entire series on both channels !!!!!!!!
Handsome and handy...dont tell hubby!! We both enjoy your quips and commentary. Great work. You do not need to reassure us of great filming, we see the proof! You had us at hello!!
I can't stop watching this and I literally cannot get anything else done because of it!! I'm hooked on your channel Greg!! But it sure doesn't help me get anything done around my home! I sit and watch and next thing I know the day is gone 😳😬 oopsie! Much love and care to you Greg and Zach. I'm sure the girls find ya handsome and handy 💕 No worries there ! 😉
It's nice to see you get along. Definitely makes it. Much more enjoyable.
New subscriber here, nice to be a part of this informative journey Greg. Thanks a lot for all this content. Absolutely invaluable sir.
“I’m watching every episode” I really hope you hit 50k or 100k this year that would be awesome keep up the good work you two
I'm watching every episode! I love watching you and Zac!
That fish smoker is ingenious! I've used trangia pots for smoking but have to try this, thanks Greg! 👍
Im watching ever episode.. I love watching both takes of this adventure.. never stop filluming!
20 days in the bush and his hair is still epic. Love it!
I'm watching every episode! Lovely smoker and camp setup!
I'm watching every episode of the 30 day survival challenge and I've watched many survival videos in the past but this one tops them all I have already watched Fowler's channel on this challenge and I've watched it all the way through twice and now I'm doing the same thing here and now I'm own my second time watching it and will probably watch it again it's so awesome and I keep seeing stuff that I haven't seen before so beautiful ✌
Ahhhh greg. As a fellow hunter I respect your knowledge about animal calls. The grouse thing was awesome to me. They're so low pitch Im surprised you caught it. Nice job man!!! Love your channel.
I love how relatable you are. I bet you have the best stories. I enjoy watching all your videos!
Wow, that's one hell of a work to build the tree fort. We are not surprised that you didn't want to do it when you were hungry or in the heavy rain. Thank you for explaining how to be considerate for the growing trees and how to pick the tree which you will cut down. The forest provides us so many good things so we have to give back little bit. We love watching your version of the challenge and we are watching every episodes... by the way you are both..handsome and handy :-)
I've watched every episode, and loved all of them. God's handywork!!! amazing!!
