I’ve really got to say that Will gets an INCREDIBLE edge on things. I haven’t seen a lot of guys out there understand edge geometry and sharpness anywhere near as well as him!
@@matthewmarting3623 Well, that thing looks like a beast of a chopper. Once it gets enough velocity, it might be really hard to stop it or change its direction. To me it also seems like that the curve towards the back of the blade and the responding mass distribution kind of helps with the edge alignment. A neat blade for sure. I thing I need one.
Certainly not a high quality project like we were used to seeing from Alec. This one is just a low quality, poor fit and finish sword shaped object to satisfy the advertiser.
@@berlinetta350 well his old videos were also a multi part project that would take him months while he perfects every piece. Nice, very nice. Vids like this become even more precious knowing that Will is shortly going to be going his own way. Still great content and love getting to see him make stuff
Khopesh is my favorite edged weapon, Will that came out sick! I really hope whenever you leave you start your own channel and show off all your skills. I miss all the blacksmithing and knife/sword/weapon builds. It’s why I fell in love with this channel. Your chefs knife you made a while back is still my favorite I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Anyways happy holidays to everyone and hope 2021 is a great one!
@@nickolasdiamond5619 I just meant it’s my favorite bladed weapon. Like out of any sword/knife/dagger etc. And agreed, katanas and dao’s are beautiful. The shape of the khopesh is so unique and badass especially for a short sword
I agree, but probably time constraints what J mentioned in the comments. Also if you compare it to other blades and swords they made it lacks a bit of detail and finishing to it. Like the sketchy handguard and all. Awsome blade tho! But nothing compared to the damascus steel blades that are 20+ videos long :p
I like when you choose an item from history and have so much story to say about it. The people who used it, the people who made it, where they where from, and why the thing was around. I also love watching the white hot steel flaking and squishing.
It's a Khopesh, used in Ancient Egypt, people like Rameses The Great used them. Old Weapon, but one of my personal favorites. The balance and curve of them always felt right in my hand.
This dude is one hell of an Apprentice to be able to do projects for Alec's videos for him to the same quality, it really shows how good of a teacher Alec himself is.
Man that blade looks great, though I think the Mark Lee Express Blue looks better for chemical bluing. The way I was taught to do it was to dry the blade with a hand torch first to make sure there is no moisture, dip a cotton patch in a small bowl of that express blue, and swipe the patch upwards making long streaks. That causes the steel to pretty much instantly rust, then you put it in boiling water for around 7-10 minutes. After that you take it to a wire wheel to get rid of the surface rust which reveals the blue. Do this process multiple times to get a darker blue. I think it would look pretty great on a sword or knife, though have only used it for guns.
I love the swords you guys make! I do a bit of leather work myself, and it got me thinking if you were going to make a scabbard for one of your swords how would you go about making a chape for it?
This thing is awesome! Gives me Assassin's Creed: Origins vibes. I love that game and the ancient Egypt (where this style of blade comes from) setting.
Alec is really out here with a face that can pull off every type of frames he wears like bro how, I can't even pull off the ones I picked for myself that I thought looked okay
Really love the curvature on this. Now do it again but with one obnoxiously large slab of Damascus. You can have 2 days to make that one lol Seriously impressive that you made this in only one.

I will say that I think the most impressive thing in that video was a clean cut through 13 consecutive water bottles. Someone’s been practicing HEMA.
