i will vouch for his Spanish. no one would confuse him for a native speaker but he speaks Spanish very well in terms of pronunciation. he just needs more practice with the actual technical stuff like vocabulary, pronouns and what not. but he's got the accent down and he knows how to roll his r's which is the biggest problem with English speakers trying to speak Spanish. it hits the ear wrong when English speakers say r's. it makes me want to stab myself in the ears when i hear someone call a dog a "peh-row". I love him though. ugh i love him he's too much. i just cant take it he so good at everything. there has to be something wrong with him. there has to be. people arent this magnificent. this majestic.

The language part is very fascinating because you get to read guys like Aristotle, Plato, Sophocles, Virgil, Catullus, Ovid, etc in their native language (Greek and Latin). The reason we have translations of Aristotle, Plato, etc is because of classics majors (more precisely scholars who have PhDs in classics). They are the ones responsible for all of our ancient translations. So, because Latin is the root of all the romance languages-Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, and English- it becomes 10 times easier to learn them if you already know Latin. But one major caveat: If one wants to learn French (and has no other language proficiency) then this does not mean they should learn Latin first in order to learn French. Many people have a passion for Latin and Ancient Greek, so typically when classics majors want to get a PhD (go to grad school) they are required to read proficiently in 3 other modern languages-the prevalent ones being French, Italian, and German. You can see how knowing Latin can speed up the process for people who want/need to learn French/Italian/any romance language. Overall, the classics major is very rewarding. You learn to read in Latin and Ancient Greek-think about that! The language that Socrates was speaking on this earth over 2400 years ago. You get to understand Plato's and so many other famous writers/rhetoricians/poets/historians/grammarians ideas in their own language! You tap into their minds with words they've written over 2000 years ago-unchanged. I know this is a lengthy explanation, but there's so much to say about classics that a sentence or two doesn't do it any justice!
