Damn.. That 2nd story hit my soft spot.. My first dog as a young boy was named Teddy. He was my best friend. He went everywhere i went. He slept at the foot of my bed every night & would escort me to the bathroom if i had to go in the middle of the night like i was his responsibility. He would meet me at the door after school with pure excitement as if i had been gone for months.. I miss Ted. No dog ever compares to your first best friend... RIP Theodore.

Sounds like a great animal. I had my first dog when I was in kindergarten. Sadly, I never got to name him before his passing less than a year later (I was very young, and always said I would at some point but didn’t know what to name it). He was a great friend to me, and this post makes me want to name him officially, the way he deserves. I think Ezekiel would’ve been a great name for him. Thanks Brian, animal lovers are great people tbh. Edit: He wasn’t hit by a car or anything we had an enclosed fence for him, we figure he ate something poisonous or was bitten by something poisonous though we never found any indicative markings.

Some young dogs are born with heart complications that you would never know existed unless you had them extensively tested and of course those tests are super expensive.. Maybe little Ezekiel had some kind of health problem that nobody knew about. As sad as losing a dog is the memories of them while they're still around are far better

My grandma was born in Scotland in 1933. So basically her entire childhood was during WW2. She broke her nose running into a wall of sandbags during an air raid. She also lived near a golf course that was converted into a prison camp. They had multiple incidents of prisoners escaping and hiding on their property.
Black outs in the freezing temps are the freaking worst. I live in Mass, and we get frequent winter storms up here. One was a huge ice storm a few years ago that took down power lines everywhere. We had no power for almost 2 weeks because the power lines were under inches of thick ice. It was horrible. Two weeks in a freezing cold house, too cold to do anything. A lot of people froze to death. It was horrible
Really you find them terrifying? Good thing you don't live in Florida or somewhere that hurricanes are common. When Hurricane Opal came through I didn't have power for almost 4 weeks! No power also meant no water since my well pump ran on electricity!

Story 3: They _had_ been warning people for months, but, stories like this is exactly why they shouldn't be allowed to just cut power whenever they want. They should be made to *fix their fucking dilapidated infrastructure.* They certainly have the money to make it happen.
That's a big issue with government spending: no matter how much they have they'll spend it faster then they can raise it and most of it will get mismanaged. I did construction work for my local school district, the same one I went to school at. I did a minor remodel for their library and know they spent roughly 10 times the standard rate for lights, paying around $1000 for an LED strip light that's normally around $100. At the same time they couldn't afford to replace broken desks, supply kids with blank paper or pencils, and they were constantly making budget cuts for school lunches. At the same time they were asking for levies and tax increases to raise funding every couple years.
I completely agree, but they didn't really do the best at warning people either. And I assume the fire they were talking about in the story was the Camp Fire that destroyed Paradise, California. As someone who lives less than an hour from Paradise, it was terrifying.
@@arthas640 PG&E is not a government entity, and the government would not have any legal standing to replace the faulty power/phone lines that caused a major fire in CA. (Though I understand that "infrastructure" tends to go hand-in-hand with talking about public entities that are subject to the government.) Basically, the cause of a major fire was determined to be (I live in CA and I don't remember WHICH fire this was, because we had a ton of major fires that year... Paradise, Woolsey, Ranch, Carr, etc) faulty power lines, and PG&E responded to that by cutting off power to thousands of people in the more remote areas of the state instead of *fixing the fucking lines.* And they won't fix them, because that costs money, and there's no law or court order or whatever to tell them to do so. Privately owned companies like PG&E own America, we just live here.
As a South African who deals with loadshedding(blackouts) regularly all I'm thinking when i hear that first story is those people that committed crimes and assaulted people were bad all along. Wasnt the power outage that caused it🤷♀️ side note: when the power goes out just stay in your house, don't go wandering the streets.
You’re right. If it were people stealing food, it’d be one thing, in my opinion, but it’s a whole other deal when you’re stealing luxury goods. Food is necessary for survival, an iTablet isn’t. Likewise, a sad backstory isn’t really justification for wronging others. If someone’s a victim, I choose to sympathize with them, up to/unless they victimized others.

It's crazy how many times a dog or a cat has made someone aware that something was wrong. I've always wanted pets but this makes me want them even more.
A friend of mine is dependent on oxygen. He has a oxygen machine for everyday use, but has 6 oxygen tanks on stand-by in case of a blackout. I live in Sacramento (near where the story takes place), but I get our electricity from a different company than PG&E, so we're spared the rolling blackouts. Nonetheless, we have storms that knock out power. I can't imagine having that threat when your life depends on a machine to stay alive.
The worst time for power outage is winter when you don't have heat. I am in Michigan and a couple of winters ago the power was out for several days because of a storm with high winds.
I'm not sure which is worse, cold or hot. At least in Winter you can light fires, use blankets, jumpers, body heat etc. But if it's too hot there's literally nothing you can do.
@@ameliathorn8313 Yeah as a Floridian I've had to spend a couple weeks without power in the middle of August due to Hurricanes. It's absolute hell. You have to pretty much live in your underwear and have a gallon of water next to you at all times because of how much you'll be sweating out, even in the shade. And humans sleep better in colder temperatures so you can't even sleep comfortably. I would take being in the cold any day. You can keep putting on layers but you can only take so many off.

I can't imagine being without power that long, we're so lucky here in England that we don't often get weather events that knocks out our power, certainly not for that long anyway. I'm one of the few people in the UK who has mobile air conditioning units. I have a chronic illness which stops me being able to regulate my temperature properly and I can't stand the rooms I'm in much over 17 degrees. In the winter I keep it about 15C in my house!

Yes they are still fixing water issues for us but I have never been so greatful for electricity and my heater my son ended up getting the worst of the cold for us
Being oxygen dependant myself I can't imagine the fright of that poor girl not being able to breathe and suffocating and not being able to do a damn thing about it......smh I start hyperventilating when I have panic attacks so I understand what she means when she says she felt like she was suffocating. You feel like your gonna pass out and can't calm yourself down. SMH good luck hun❤.

Story 6: I rode out Hurricane Ike in southeast Texas. I’ve ridden out quite a few storms here. Ike was a bad one. We were without power for about a week. My parents had 7.5 feet of water in the house I grew up in. It was bad
*I feel you! I live in a suburb in southeast Houston, near the Gulf. The EYE of Hurricane IKE went directly over our house! It was INSANE!!! We went outside for a minute or so and we could see the stars! My Dad and husband were out there nailing back up some of the wooden panels put up over the bay windows and others areas. It got SCARY when the eye wall started hitting again and they were still out there! Thank GOD they are both in the “safety” business and had hard hats on and strong safety glasses... My Dad is 6’5” and was in the upper 200 to lower 300 lb. range and he BARELY got back inside!😧 My parents lost both of their front yard trees that were both almost 40 years old... We lost power for 7-8 days or so. I’m so thankful that my parents had TWO generators! With hurricanes, the ONLY good thing is that you get a warning a few days ahead of time but the EXACT place it makes landfall and the Category (1-5) is NEVER clear until the moment it hits! I think Ike hit at a CAT 3, ALMOST A CAT 4! We were EXTREMELY LUCKY we didn’t have any rising water that came into the house but there was damage where the rain and wind were hitting so hard (on brick...) that some water did get into the sheet rock and into the sub-flooring of a couple bedrooms. Thank God for Texas Wind and Hail Policies! They got brand new flooring and tile put in both damaged bedrooms and ended up painting them too. The rooms looked so wonderful and updated! They ended up redoing the rest of the bedrooms and even did a total change to their master bathroom. The master bath was totally changed around and looks so beautiful and up to date to this day! I hope your parents had a good Texas Wind and Hail policy AND FLOOD INSURANCE! I’m sure they did because most Insurance Companies require that you carry BOTH policies in southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. *Did you lose power this past week due to the freak ice storms and FREEZING temperatures? We lost power Monday evening and just had it restored this morning (Friday, Feb. 19, 2021) at 4:00AM! We STILL can’t drink the water due to it having so much bacteria in it! They said to BOIL the water first (like don’t even brush your teeth with it!) but how are people supposed to boil their water without electricity? We don’t have natural gas available for heating or cooking and neither do most of our neighbors... I hope you and your loved ones did not lose power and if you did I pray it is now back on! I remember back in Kazakhstan we were living with constant blackouts, NO running water, and only an oven for heating. After a two decades of life in Europe, just ONE short blackout scared hell out of me 🤣 I've become such a baby.
You are right, we are spoiled and most of us do not know the reality of hundreds of millions (probably billions) of others around the world. We complain about the one percent (which I am one who complains about them and the imbalance as well) yet when compared to the rest of the world the US is essential the 1percent of the world, and the majority of us don’t even realize the horrificly broad spectrum of human suffering that is happening all around the world.
My grandmother lived in London in WWII and survived the horror of black outs and air raids. She married my grandpa and moved to the US in 1946. Grandma never liked the 4th of July bc of her trauma. The loud bangs and in the dark were just too much. I remember during family events for the 4th I’d keep her company on the couch inside and distract her from the noise.
Grandma and grandpa, would listen to the radio Thay finely would buy a tv, some time in there late 20's.These are some of my best memories of my grandparents. Listening to the radio with my grandparents.

When I was a kid, I used to love it when a storm took out all the power and phones. I lived, (and still do), in SW Washington State at the end of a dead end gravel road out in the woods. It could be days before we got roads cleared, power restored and the school going again. We didn't have alarms or anything like that back then and wouldn't have needed them if they had existed. We didn't even lock the doors at night or when going to town. Home invasion was rare, especially out in the hills, Anyone who would do that knew what would happen to them if there happened to be some one home.
That first story is written very well. Sets up a good amount of backstory that actually matters and leads naturally into the actual scary event. I’m no story critic haha I just enjoy when they have some depth.
I was in the blackout Texas just had and it was horrible 😂😂 crazy to see the things people would do just to feed their families but we all worked together I think ? Atleast in San Antonio we did. Super cold, dark, no signal and people kept risking their lives to go out to find food when the roads were icing. Those few days felt like FOREVER lol
When I was small we used to have blackouts all the time and having been a kid, I was naturally scared... But guess what made me a bit less scared... playing games on my brothers laptop, while cocooned in a bunch of blankets on the livingroom floor. That night took my fear of thunderstorms and blackouts.
The hurricane story reminds me of when Hugo came through. Ball lightning, mini twisters eating the tree tops of the loblolly pines, me sneaking outside trying to find my cat, mom and dad making me hide under the kitchen table with the cat during the worst of it. The rain was practically horizontal outside. But I wasn't scared. If anything, I was annoyed they had woken me up for it. I was like, 3 or 4 years old so no surprise there.
I still like the 🐦 sound noises at the end of each heavy video as it gives the feeling of relief whilst thinking "I'm safe now as it's the beginning of the morning".
That's crazy I was living in Spring TX and was about the same age as the storyteller when hurricane Ike hit. We were living in a trailer park and a tree fell from the creek behind our house and landed on top of the house. If it had fallen any harder and went all the way through our house my brother would've been crushed by it. Ike was definitely a crazy storm.

In tx with a newborn, the rolling blackout's & water shut off was an adventure to say the least...7° weather, it was pitch black outside in the middle of the night but all the snow gave it a creepy bright glow as if it was daytime.
We had a massive power cut on my way home from a friend's house . The darkness was unbelievable. No street or house lights going anywhere . It was a cloudy night so no moonlight. It was freaky af. It is amazing how we are so used to our streetlights .
Having spent time in India, a place where electricians aren't exactly bright (get it), blackouts top my list of phobias. My fear of blackouts has just skyrocketed even more after watching this lol. Excited to return to the states next month, where electric is on 24/7 Except in Texas atm
I Never looked at Mr. Nightmares videos but to be that big and only put out 11-12 minute videos really at least Joel gives something to listen to for awhile especially when you just want your day at work to go by
We have unscheduled loadshedding (blackouts). I don't like take away food (too many wearing their uniforms, leaving toilets without washing their hands, going straight back to working with food. They don't even care that potential customers are watching them.) After too many times getting home hungry, power out till the next day or late at night. I've located some nice places, to curb the hunger. Electricity is not a given, I've learned to prepare myself
OK, so you gotta have a plan. A standard plan for blackouts. Mine was potluck, candles and poker..... That way the whole neighborhood knows what to do😊😊😊😊😊
I always find it quite interesting when people have certain preferences when speaking or telling stories to either refer to individuals by NAME versus "my wife, my dog, my son, etc." I'm sure there must be some type of psychological subcontext to rationalize the reason whether it's to do with privacy, familiarity, possessiveness...... whatever. I just find it interesting to think about.

I actually waited to listen to these. I've been through a few natural disasters accompanied by power outages which has lead to me being an amateur prepper. Anyway I now live waaaaay up north which handles snow like a freaking champion city! My family, however, is really going through it,in Arkansas and Texas. Lord, I wish I could just swoop in and save them 😔 so I had to wait until they were through that storm to listen to these

When black outs happen here (🇵🇭), all neighbors would go outside and gather as if there's some event happening, carrying ripped cardboards using as fan because it's hot af 😂
I experienced Ike. We had a hurricane party, played cards, drinking games and slept like babies all while the wind howled and trees snapped. As long as you're prepared, it's no biggie.

It's crazy how many times a dog or a cat has made someone aware that something was wrong. I've always wanted pets but this makes me want them even more.

I’m loving the mental image of some old man walking around his house with a bow and arrow like Legolas.
The blackout story where the author has the health issues hits close to home. Where i live we deal with the same fear form my mom who uses oxygen.
A friend of mine is dependent on oxygen. He has a oxygen machine for everyday use, but has 6 oxygen tanks on stand-by in case of a blackout. I live in Sacramento (near where the story takes place), but I get our electricity from a different company than PG&E, so we're spared the rolling blackouts. Nonetheless, we have storms that knock out power. I can't imagine having that threat when your life depends on a machine to stay alive.

The worst time for power outage is winter when you don't have heat. I am in Michigan and a couple of winters ago the power was out for several days because of a storm with high winds.
I'm not sure which is worse, cold or hot. At least in Winter you can light fires, use blankets, jumpers, body heat etc. But if it's too hot there's literally nothing you can do.

@@ameliathorn8313 Yeah as a Floridian I've had to spend a couple weeks without power in the middle of August due to Hurricanes. It's absolute hell. You have to pretty much live in your underwear and have a gallon of water next to you at all times because of how much you'll be sweating out, even in the shade.
And humans sleep better in colder temperatures so you can't even sleep comfortably.
I would take being in the cold any day. You can keep putting on layers but you can only take so many off.

I can't imagine being without power that long, we're so lucky here in England that we don't often get weather events that knocks out our power, certainly not for that long anyway. I'm one of the few people in the UK who has mobile air conditioning units. I have a chronic illness which stops me being able to regulate my temperature properly and I can't stand the rooms I'm in much over 17 degrees. In the winter I keep it about 15C in my house!

Yes they are still fixing water issues for us but I have never been so greatful for electricity and my heater my son ended up getting the worst of the cold for us

Being oxygen dependant myself I can't imagine the fright of that poor girl not being able to breathe and suffocating and not being able to do a damn thing about it......smh I start hyperventilating when I have panic attacks so I understand what she means when she says she felt like she was suffocating. You feel like your gonna pass out and can't calm yourself down. SMH good luck hun❤.

Story 6: I rode out Hurricane Ike in southeast Texas. I’ve ridden out quite a few storms here. Ike was a bad one. We were without power for about a week. My parents had 7.5 feet of water in the house I grew up in. It was bad
*I feel you! I live in a suburb in southeast Houston, near the Gulf. The EYE of Hurricane IKE went directly over our house! It was INSANE!!! We went outside for a minute or so and we could see the stars! My Dad and husband were out there nailing back up some of the wooden panels put up over the bay windows and others areas. It got SCARY when the eye wall started hitting again and they were still out there! Thank GOD they are both in the “safety” business and had hard hats on and strong safety glasses... My Dad is 6’5” and was in the upper 200 to lower 300 lb. range and he BARELY got back inside!😧 My parents lost both of their front yard trees that were both almost 40 years old... We lost power for 7-8 days or so. I’m so thankful that my parents had TWO generators! With hurricanes, the ONLY good thing is that you get a warning a few days ahead of time but the EXACT place it makes landfall and the Category (1-5) is NEVER clear until the moment it hits! I think Ike hit at a CAT 3, ALMOST A CAT 4! We were EXTREMELY LUCKY we didn’t have any rising water that came into the house but there was damage where the rain and wind were hitting so hard (on brick...) that some water did get into the sheet rock and into the sub-flooring of a couple bedrooms. Thank God for Texas Wind and Hail Policies! They got brand new flooring and tile put in both damaged bedrooms and ended up painting them too. The rooms looked so wonderful and updated! They ended up redoing the rest of the bedrooms and even did a total change to their master bathroom. The master bath was totally changed around and looks so beautiful and up to date to this day! I hope your parents had a good Texas Wind and Hail policy AND FLOOD INSURANCE! I’m sure they did because most Insurance Companies require that you carry BOTH policies in southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico.
*Did you lose power this past week due to the freak ice storms and FREEZING temperatures? We lost power Monday evening and just had it restored this morning (Friday, Feb. 19, 2021) at 4:00AM! We STILL can’t drink the water due to it having so much bacteria in it! They said to BOIL the water first (like don’t even brush your teeth with it!) but how are people supposed to boil their water without electricity? We don’t have natural gas available for heating or cooking and neither do most of our neighbors... I hope you and your loved ones did not lose power and if you did I pray it is now back on!

I remember back in Kazakhstan we were living with constant blackouts, NO running water, and only an oven for heating. After a two decades of life in Europe, just ONE short blackout scared hell out of me 🤣 I've become such a baby.
You are right, we are spoiled and most of us do not know the reality of hundreds of millions (probably billions) of others around the world. We complain about the one percent (which I am one who complains about them and the imbalance as well) yet when compared to the rest of the world the US is essential the 1percent of the world, and the majority of us don’t even realize the horrificly broad spectrum of human suffering that is happening all around the world.

My grandmother lived in London in WWII and survived the horror of black outs and air raids. She married my grandpa and moved to the US in 1946. Grandma never liked the 4th of July bc of her trauma. The loud bangs and in the dark were just too much. I remember during family events for the 4th I’d keep her company on the couch inside and distract her from the noise.
Grandma and grandpa, would listen to the radio Thay finely would buy a tv, some time in there late 20's.These are some of my best memories of my grandparents. Listening to the radio with my grandparents.

When I was a kid, I used to love it when a storm took out all the power and phones. I lived, (and still do), in SW Washington State at the end of a dead end gravel road out in the woods. It could be days before we got roads cleared, power restored and the school going again.
We didn't have alarms or anything like that back then and wouldn't have needed them if they had existed. We didn't even lock the doors at night or when going to town. Home invasion was rare, especially out in the hills, Anyone who would do that knew what would happen to them if there happened to be some one home.

That first story is written very well. Sets up a good amount of backstory that actually matters and leads naturally into the actual scary event. I’m no story critic haha I just enjoy when they have some depth.

I was in the blackout Texas just had and it was horrible 😂😂 crazy to see the things people would do just to feed their families but we all worked together I think ? Atleast in San Antonio we did. Super cold, dark, no signal and people kept risking their lives to go out to find food when the roads were icing. Those few days felt like FOREVER lol
When I was small we used to have blackouts all the time and having been a kid, I was naturally scared...
But guess what made me a bit less scared... playing games on my brothers laptop, while cocooned in a bunch of blankets on the livingroom floor.
That night took my fear of thunderstorms and blackouts.
Hell yes! Just woke up in the UK and can't go back to sleep but now I can!
The hurricane story reminds me of when Hugo came through. Ball lightning, mini twisters eating the tree tops of the loblolly pines, me sneaking outside trying to find my cat, mom and dad making me hide under the kitchen table with the cat during the worst of it. The rain was practically horizontal outside. But I wasn't scared. If anything, I was annoyed they had woken me up for it. I was like, 3 or 4 years old so no surprise there.

That's crazy I was living in Spring TX and was about the same age as the storyteller when hurricane Ike hit. We were living in a trailer park and a tree fell from the creek behind our house and landed on top of the house. If it had fallen any harder and went all the way through our house my brother would've been crushed by it. Ike was definitely a crazy storm.

In tx with a newborn, the rolling blackout's & water shut off was an adventure to say the least...7° weather, it was pitch black outside in the middle of the night but all the snow gave it a creepy bright glow as if it was daytime.
I listen to these when I can't sleep, they distract me from my own brain and I can finally fall asleep, thank you :)
We had a massive power cut on my way home from a friend's house . The darkness was unbelievable. No street or house lights going anywhere . It was a cloudy night so no moonlight. It was freaky af. It is amazing how we are so used to our streetlights .
Having spent time in India, a place where electricians aren't exactly bright (get it), blackouts top my list of phobias. My fear of blackouts has just skyrocketed even more after watching this lol. Excited to return to the states next month, where electric is on 24/7

We have unscheduled loadshedding (blackouts). I don't like take away food (too many wearing their uniforms, leaving toilets without washing their hands, going straight back to working with food. They don't even care that potential customers are watching them.) After too many times getting home hungry, power out till the next day or late at night. I've located some nice places, to curb the hunger. Electricity is not a given, I've learned to prepare myself
OK, so you gotta have a plan. A standard plan for blackouts. Mine was potluck, candles and poker..... That way the whole neighborhood knows what to do😊😊😊😊😊

I always find it quite interesting when people have certain preferences when speaking or telling stories to either refer to individuals by NAME versus "my wife, my dog, my son, etc."
I'm sure there must be some type of psychological subcontext to rationalize the reason whether it's to do with privacy, familiarity, possessiveness...... whatever. I just find it interesting to think about.

Goddamn. I was one of the affected in that California blackout and I thought I had it rough cause I couldn't use the internet for a week. That story brought me down to earth a little.
I actually waited to listen to these. I've been through a few natural disasters accompanied by power outages which has lead to me being an amateur prepper. Anyway I now live waaaaay up north which handles snow like a freaking champion city! My family, however, is really going through it,in Arkansas and Texas. Lord, I wish I could just swoop in and save them 😔 so I had to wait until they were through that storm to listen to these

At least one channel that actually tells TRUE stories (well at least most of them seem true). Most other channels has titles like "...real stories..." and then goes on about ghosts, vampires and werewolfs.
When black outs happen here (🇵🇭), all neighbors would go outside and gather as if there's some event happening, carrying ripped cardboards using as fan because it's hot af 😂

I experienced Ike. We had a hurricane party, played cards, drinking games and slept like babies all while the wind howled and trees snapped. As long as you're prepared, it's no biggie.
