I’ve been a truck driver for 20 years. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in 2017. I’ve struggled from day one with that thing. I’ve gotten worse sleep with it, than without it. This past spring I had sinus surgery, to repair a deviated septum. Which I had a 90% blockage according to the doctor. I went in for a post op check up, and I asked for a new sleep study, and an allergy test, as I have horrible allergies. Both accounts doctor refused to do either one. I’ve been out of work for 10 months. Found out recently, the federal government does not recognize any other alternatives to the cpap machine which in my opinion is crap! I’m a healthy, well abled bodied man ready to go back to what I do best. This one size fits all approach is putting a lot of us outta work.
@@Casper55 all for the dollar. its not really a safety concern. gone require all CDL holders to drug test but only fat people are required to sleep test!?😂🤣😅 doesnt sound like a safety concern at all. If it was! should be required by all CDL holders as is with drug testing for all CDL holders for safety concerns!!
The DOT sleep apnea nonsense has ruined my life, and I know I'm not the only one. The government should not have the authority to leverage my employment for "compliance". 70k in savings and my 401k gone, just to avoid cooperating with what amounts to medical malpractice. I don't want my doctor drafting legislation, and I don't want our employees in Washington prescribing medical treatments.
Yea "sleep doctors" don't warn u of those things till after your diagnosed also don't tell u about the massive ouerdiagnosis or pathetic cpap success rate
i been on sleep apena now for 2 years one thing i would suggest to you drivers on sleep apnea pick yourself up extra power cord i learn the hard way my power cord went out had to have one ship to one our terminals and because i could not use it for 4 days cause i had bad power cord i was put out of service till cord came in then i had to stay out of service one more night showing i was using machine so i will be getting extra power cord so i dont run into this problem again and i dont abuse power cord when iam done using machine for the night i put everything away in the sleep apena travel bag
I’m having a real hard time finding distilled water, for my sucking octopus.behind on my hrs,..or nights. It’s a problem for us…….my problem is the machine- I’ve been doing this job fo 28 yrs. I will likely end up homeless, because of you people.
I think that we are pretty clear on that one. LOL! We are a self pay company only. We are not the insurance route. We are way quicker, easier and pleasant than multiple doctor visits and follow ups. But not for everyone.
Usually they will want a 30 or 90 days compliance report. So you will have to use it for sure 30-90 days before your DOT medical card appointment. I would call that DOT office and ask.
So a question on timeline. I'm wanting to get started getting my CDL. I have been to the doctor and been prescribed a CPAP machine which has not shown up yet. If I go now to give my DOT physical are they going to give me my DOT card so I can obtain my permit and then have to come back in 3 months to show that I am compliant?
That is a tough question. I would hope that if you show that the CPAP is on the way and that there is a shortage right now, that they will give you some grace. I would think that someone with common sense would do that for you. However common sense isn't so common anymore. So crossing fingers for you.
Cpap was one of the hardest things I ever had to do My apnea was so bad and on top of struggling so hard with the machine Try to find the right mask and sleeping positionsit was extremely difficult My apnea had gotten so bad with lack of sleep I was close to passing My whole body was shutting down I was developing so many health issues Finally started getting sleep with the machine, with the right mask and settings Made a night day difference I was at the point of no return Now I must have the machine because I don’t want to suffer like that ever again , it’s scary It’s up to you to get the cpap down Use UA-cam and see what may help you from other’s experience, because the doctors really can’t help you at all , they can just diagnose you and tell you the same old rehearsed speech they got
I tested positive for Sleep Apnea in 2018. At first, I despised the machine. I cursed the doctor. I cursed the DMV because once a Trucker has Sleep Apnea, they harass you and make your life unnecessarily difficult. Like many Truckers, I thought CPAP was just a scam. It was just another way for doctors to make money off of Truckers. Sometimes I still think this way. I think a lot of the pushback is that nobody likes being forced to do anything especially getting forced to go to a doctor when we think the doctor is using us as their cash cow. It took awhile to get used to using the machine. Those first few nights with the machine were miserable. I slept less with the machine on than before I used the machine. However, now I can't sleep without the machine. I'll fight you for the machine. I still think doctors and the government need to get their noses out of Truckers business and quit trying to force us to do things but I do notice a difference when I wake up.

It does not require a "C" pap it says a pap device. There is Apap Bpap Cpap Epap app are approved pap devices. The dot doctor's are not sleep study doctors but think that they have the power to overstep their authority. I am going through this again. I am tired of having to educate these dot doctors. You can use other water, but you will have to clean more often.
If you have no water in the humidifier when you wake up that means you mouth breathe.
Cpap lobbyists. That’s all this shit is. People been trucking for decades without all these dumb ass regulations.

I looked everywhere for a cpat machine and no one seems to have any in stock. I can’t work if I don’t have the machine
