The largest and rarest owl in the world, the Blakiston’s Eagle Owl, which name was taken from British naturalist Thomas Blakiston, was first documented in 1883. It can grow up to 72 cm long from beak to tail, with a wingspan of up 200 cm. Many of them live in the Far East, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, and on the Russian islands of Sakhalin and Kuril. Unfortunately, the bird suffers an endangered status. In Japan only 150 Blakiston’s Fish Owls remain. In Russia 1,500 birds.

It's actually called a blakiston's eagle owl, it is not a fish owl, it does not belong to the Ketupa genus, it is always a member of the Bubo genus, which is exclusively native to the Palearctic Realm, the only other five extant species in this genus are the European Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo), the West Asian Eagle Owl (Bubo turcomanus), the Central Asian Eagle Owl (Bubo hemachalanus), the Chinese Eagle Owl (Bubo kiautschensis), and the Siberian Eagle Owl (Bubo sibiricus), with the latter four now being considered separate species from the former and closer relatives of the Blakiston's Eagle Owl (Bubo blakistoni).

They are such a Beautiful Owl and i am pleased that you Love them and get so excited to photograph them, but i get sick of hearing about the cruelty of some "humans" towards these birds and all wildlife, when willthese individuels learn to respect wildlife and nature, i hope it is long before it is too late. Thank you for this wonderful film.

My program staff loves these owls, a LOT more than the average owl-lover. Now I see why some people are so terrified to resemble flying mailboxes, that Pokémon Legends: Arceus should’ve included a Hisuian Noctowl in its roster, as regular Noctowl are unavailable, in code and missed opportunity lore respectively.

What a gorgeous bird. It is strange that it doesn't appear that large in comparison to Great Horned Owls I have seen but yet is more than double the weight. Must be amazing in real life.

Will you do another such video on the fish owl? I just bought some good books on this owl.. I hear the only nest in super old trees of a particular species so they often don't nest for lack of these old growth trees.. some people were making nests for them... even out of a large barrel.. Thanks for the amazing video!!

My spirit animal is owl. And this owls might be my favourite animal. What a great majestic bird we humans msut protect it from ourselfs. I hope they can get them to populate more and not get extinct because that would be a great loss and a shame.

Most amazing birds that fly without making any sound, the only birds that can fly without detectable sound of wings flapping!

vine más que todo por que se hacer un buo Blakiston de Origami a partir de un papel cuadrado sin recortes ni pega el resultado es realista y puede durar asta 3 horas pero depende de la persona puede estenderse asta poco más de 3 horas incluso casi 6 horas
