I live 15 mi from OSH and work at the EAA every year. I've seen FiFi many times but Doc was like looking into a mirror. I could not believe how bright "he" is. Yeah it was amazing seeing them both together. I got to crawl around "him" after hours when I met one of the crew out in town one night. What an amazing job of restoration they did! Hope to see them together again in 2021 maybe...
A fully restored F w 200 Condor would be a show stopper as well, very rare indeed. Painted in her original Luftwaffe livery of two tone grey/ green with the circle the globe nose art. The 200 had a rather odd main landing gear arrangement but was quite a striking craft overall. As the B/17 it also was a tail dragger, made the cockpit sit quite high while parked. Legion Condor Hergestellt in Deutschland
Mt favorite aircraft of all time, the B-29. Awesome sight to see DOC in the air! Great job to everyone involved in DOC's restoration. I might have to take the drive over to Oshkosh just to see him. I went to Oshkosh 14 years ago specifically to see Fifi, only to find out when I got there, they had to cancel FiFi's show appearance because they found corrosion somewhere in the plane. I still have yet to see a B-29 fly in person. Maybe This Year I'll get to see two!
In Wichita we've watched Doc go from loads of pieces and parts when it arrived to what you now see flying which took about 17 years. It was worth the wait, even better when Doc get's its own new hanger at ICT. Beautiful.............
About a month ago when I saw "FiFi" here in Maryland I was in total awe, to hear that beauty take off, the sound of those engines symbolizes freedom, to see her up close and in person was incredible, imagine an aircraft like that carrying an atomic bomb, it was an experience I won't soon forget!
What a great video. The restoration of "Doc" was simply astounding. All of the aircraft featured, old and new are going to make Oshkosh another primo fly-in. Wish I could join you.
Love the slow motion trailer it really gives a person time to soak up the entire clip. It really gives you time to think of all of the men and women who gave their all, which by the way are all of those who served. The saying All gave some and Some gave all, in my mind cuts those who survived an injustice. Anyone who has served Gave Their All in life and in death.
The site of another lovely lady in the sky!! Beautiful. To all the men and women who put in all the hard hour to get her flying again, thank you!! She is a dream to behold. Hopefully one day I will get to see her in person.
Thank you for this video. I showed it to my 95-year-old grandmother who was an inspector on the B-29 assembly lines at Boeing Wichita during the war. She is happy that a Wichita B-29 is finally back in the air.
Doc is absolutely stunning! I love the contrast of the roaring B-29 engines in the beginning of the video, and the mythic slow motion and music during Doc's arrival and landing again at the end, after the arrival of all those other different species like migrating birds. Beautiful work! I would love to get to Oshkosh some time, if I can still walk those distances!
Thanks! I hope you make it to Oshkosh. There are trams running all day long that can help take a load off your feet for awhile as you traverse from one area to another.
Last time I was at Oshkosh I was just a little kid and I remember the neighboring dairy farm had the dairy barn burn to the ground with all the cows in it. The next day we drove by it they were pulling dead charred cows from where the barn was. Pretty traumatic for a kid to see.
I wish I could ride in a b-29 bomber. I mean I'd do anything fly in one. 😀😀😀 I actually watched the history of DOC on UA-cam, it was pretty cool. They pulled it out of the Mojave desert and trucked it to Wichita Kansas to start its restoration. Which I thought was neat since it was built back at the Boeing plant back in Wichita in 1945 that I know and heard. My two favorite places on the plane would be the front Gunner and the back gunners positions. There's one thing I would like to know is how long does it take to build a B-29 bomber.
While this model of airplane ( B-29 ) was the single most deadly aircraft the world has ever known, in my opinion, it's the single most beautiful aircraft ever to hit the sky. I hope they keep doc in pristine shape from now on. There is not a more historical aircraft, aside from the Wright brothers plane, that has had a bigger impact on world events as the b 29.
+1 airailimages - WOW... 'Doc' arriving Oshkosh... simply breathtaking. She looks better than new! What an amazing team that performed that miracle. BTW, just subscribed. Keep 'em coming! ;^)
Unfortunately many air events have PA systems that mask the rare chance to hear these engines.Or they will play period music. A little about my background, In 1972 I began recording aircraft on audio cassette (I still do to today). Living in the Midwest, We are not on the radar for propliners and warbirds like other parts of the country are. I can only dream of travel to see these machines.UA-cam has become for the most part the only way of enjoying these aircraft for me. At OSH. I recorded from an area where The PA was barely audiable. and this was good. There are a universe of great photographers, and I enjoy their camera art. But very few plane freaks do audio, sometimes on smart phones that distort. A standard sized cassette recorder can handle the High decibel levels that sometimes even the GoPro cannot. I was not being critical of your efforts, but just saying that it is so good to just hear the sound of power plant symphony.
I was limited to Milwaukee and a few other Wisconsin cities. An ex Northwest Electra spurred my interest in vintage aircraft recording. The guys working on a B 25 Invited me to planeside and got to work on it with a friend. The B25 486777 at OSH was that plane. Got to ride in it twice, once in the cockpit. I spent a day on a DC 3 thanks to Warren Basler. I have never had the money it would cost to take those kind of flights especially now. The only time I ever felt a risk to hearing was when an ex PANAM 707 went to taxi power.
@@airailimages I personally love the way you give a blend of powerful engine sounds punctuated with music that IMO really underscores the mood and character of the aircrafts. And some of the finest visuals and cinematography in aviation videos!
I've been told that both airworthy Super Fort's are using later R-3350's of the general type that powered commercial transports after WW2. These engines were presumably safe enough to carry paying passengers. Can you give us a brief run-down on the differences between the original combat engines and the later ones? I know they don't allow anywhere near the power settings that the bomb and fuel-laden planes bound for Japan had to use, which takes a lot of the strain off the engines.
I made two flights on FiFi in 2016 and as I understand it the engines are based on the ones used in the C119 and A-1 Skyraider. They have superchargers fed by carburetors - the originals were turbo-supercharged with fuel injectors. Trust me they make plenty of power :-)
@@johnevans388 So on Doc they are from other source. Donation from other planes? They says on the web page they are original.....who cares. It is important they are working well.
@@alespersin6066 Both DOC and FIFI fly with the later model engines, a hybrid made from late series parts that are more durable. FIFI was getting few hours out of her original engines before they needed expensive work, so the new engines are better. The hybrid engines also make more power and the props are geared differently so they save a lot on fuel using lower engine RPMs..

Love that B29 !!! What a truly amazing sight !!! Only thing better than this video , would be being there !!!!
Watching Doc on my little computer monitor.... beautiful !!!! Now I have to go get it up on my 65" HD !!! Bye!
Very awesome to see him fly again
Great video, I loved hearing the roar of Doc's four engines when it flew over.

I wanna go to Oshkosh for their next airshow. This show was downright ridiculous!!!
P-40 doing the high speed taxi on two wheels.
dang, he did for sure
My uncle flew the P-40 in WWII so it's always been one of my favorites.
Hate to admit it, but I had to do a double take on that bird. Almost wasn't sure it was a P-40 , without those teeth and eyes painted on it.
Neat -- I bet he had some stories to tell.
I prefer the 40 over the rest of ww2. She is all American and was there when we needed her most. She fought in every theater.
These plane's are incredible and look amazing too.great video too thank you so much for your videos....

What kind of plane was that?
according to the N number registry, that's a Schweizer SGM 2-37, a motor glider.

First a B-52, now a B-29, what's next? A Bone? Runway may not be long enough for one to take off, even stripped down.
Nighthawke70 If I am not mistaken, they had an SR-71 land there. I could be wrong though.
it's true
As a matter of fact, A Bone is scheduled to perform there this week. Along with a B-2.
An Airbus A380 once landed at Oshkosh.
They used to have a Concorde fly sight-seeing trips over the Great Lakes during display days (was there in 1998).
At the end was that a Mooney or a Wheelbarrow?
