      Hello there!
      Controlling the temperature and levels of CO2 and humidity in the incubator is critical to the health and growth of cultured cells.
      CO2 is needed as part of the media bicarbonate buffering system to regulate its pH. Carbonic acid is formed when water reacts with CO2, which in turn will react with the bicarbonate ions in the media to modulate the pH. The dye Phenol red is commonly used in media to monitor the pH: red indicates a physiological pH, purple shows an alkaline pH and yellow indicates an acidic pH.
