- FORD TAURUS 3.5 V6 WATER PUMP LOCATION REPLACEMENT EXPLAINED
In this video we will show you where the water pump is located and we will explain what needs to be done to replace the water pump on Ford Taurus with 3.5 or 3.7 engine. We demonstrated on Ford Edge but the same engine has been used in Ford Taurus since both vehicles share the same engine (might have double variable timing gear depending on year). This is a good reference video for people that say northstar v8 water pump is "hard" to change.
11 hours is the book time to change the water pump , that equals big dollars for the dealers or any shop, but a kick in the teeth for the consumer 🤬
How do I find the book time of jobs?
This is a great video that quickly explains why the dealer wants $2700 to replace the water pump. It doesn't make me feel any better about asking the taxpayers to replace the water pump on a cop car, BUT at I can see why. While it stings just a bit, this is STILL better than putting a Charger in my fleet...
What’s your beef on the charger?
@@breadman5048 Riddled with (intermittent) electrical problems, shoddy body panels, officers complain that it's cramped and uncomfortable (ESPECIALLY with a dual partition), Mopar is proud of their parts (at least from a cost perspective - Mopar = Mo Money).
@@michaelstadler349 ah I see you run a cop fleet? Yeah it seems cramped.. I wanna get a challenger but I'm a single dude and the front seem really spacious.
What the hell was Ford thinking 😳
That this would be really efficient and a huge improvement (probably chasing every last possible 0.1mpg gain) but nobody ever considers the owner who will have to fork out thousands in maintenance (totally negating any efficiency gain and costing WAY MORE in the long run)
@@I_know_what_im_talking_about they do consider the iqner until 100,000k miles then its your problem lol
They don’t care
OMG, I can replace my Freestyle water pump in like 20 minutes! This is insanity!
Different motor
So, has anyone found the two hour video on getting to the timing chain that he keeps mentioning in the videos? Still looking for it. Keeps saying it's in the description below, but I can't find it.
Thanks for posting.. No Taurus for me.
Trust me I just paid 2600. I thought the dealership was crazy for that quote. After some looking around all shops I contacted, I turned down the job except for the dealership, which was a red flag that my pockets was going to feel some pain. 😂
just given an estimate for replacing water pump on my 2012 ford Taurus...$3100; with labor being 1500 and car needed for at least two (2) days..off to buy some six dollar radiator heavy duty stop leak...pray for me
update..stop leak was basically ineffective but two eggs (cracked of course) poured into the reservoir has worked damn well so far. No coolant leak since.
Holy, you paid $3,000+ 😮
I payed $400 labor & $100 for the pump to get mine replaced on my 2011 Taurus.
Are you serious. Thats cheap. Who fixed it.@lrradiator
@@lrradiator how did yuo even kmow it needed to be replaced? I hve always watched for leaks. We are passing on a 2015 Tarus right now over this very issue
Where?
I'm a Ford person but in a mechanic but I'm telling you for just trying to make a very super compact powerful V6 engine that could fit into a tight spot and that's what they were doing with all engines that have timing chain or chain driven water pump inside the engine like that
Is there any benefits to putting the water pump inside the cover? Other than space savings?
zero
There are benefits of designing an engine like this, but they’re for the car companies and their engineers. Right now they’re giving themselves high fives for every one of these terrible engines that break down like this. Those engineers deserve to be shot!!!
@@ND-yp3sk only positive i see is that if the serpentine belt is kicked off the engine will not overheat. the updated 3.5's/3.7s almost never have pump failures, only the early models.
Yes, for the manufacture, at 100,000 miles when you're facing a $2700 dollar bill, that is that the water didn't toast the entire engine, you just go get a new car.
That is why ford taurus is too cheap on the used car market 😮
Any indication that this design will help the pump system last longer than a typical cooling system?
On my way now to pick up my husband’s 2016 Taurus that had a water pump fail at around 75k miles (mostly city driving). The pump plus some associated parts has been a 17- hour job to the tune of $4,500. I’m slowly dying.
Just got mine fixed last week. Now its leaking oil again a week later. Hmmm 🤔
@erik torres vvt valve
I need née water pump in my 2011. Places are telling me it will be $1900 . Sounds super expensive to me
Did you repair it? I'm in same boat for my 12 taurus. Still haven't decided if I will get it fixed. I have 180k miles.
@@bl6369 I had 180k as well, I sold it for 900$ never fixed it
To have a garage or dealer do it, is almost as expensive as buying a rebuilt motor, & dropping that in.
This is insane for a water pump.
Not one of fords better ideas 🤬
geezus christ ,,, in other words dont buy a ford with a 3.5
Don't buy a Fwd that has optional awd Ford 3.5. RWD 3.5 equipped vehicles are externally mounted.
@@FWDSUXARSEits only the duratec engine that has this fatal flaw; the water pump is mounted behind the TC so it’s nearly impossible to do the job w/o taking it back to the dealer; or a mechanic with a lottttttt of patience bc they’re surely gonna be pissed w this job (lol); if you get the ecoboost or the ti-vct the water pump is externally mounted
Just for a water pump , overkill
Basically.. and I have 3 of them. Thankfully one is the ecoboost f150 and the water pump is on the outside and hasn’t failed.. but both the explorer and Taurus failed around 125k
@@fxnepilogue yeah RWD longitudinal mounted motors have them externally mounted (the way it should be) but transverse mounted engines like mine have behind timing cover which is junk. If I could easily do a remote mounted water pump I would but my car isn't worth it due to complexity and added cost and no one makes a conversion kit and I've looked. 😔
This is so much easier in 1997 Ford Taurus
@@natejusko486 really? I’m doing pretty well still gets decent power etc.
@@natejusko486 the base one, not DOHC
Water pump gos bad leaks into oil = bad motor
Glad I purchased a lifetime power train warranty.
Hi there, from where or what’s the warranty named
Thank you
Yikes!! Looks like im riding the bus.
Ford house wants to charge me 4,600 lol .I ask them where did yall get your drugs from!!!!!!
Truly a shit bad design. Scotty Kilmer says. 👎🏼I’m about to buy this car, may change my mind.
soooo bad water pump equals a totaled car for a high-millage Taurus? The online recommendation is to change 60-100k miles. HEY DEALERS GUESS WHAT! STOP SELLING YOUR CARS FOR 15-20K WITH OVER 100K MILES WITHOUT DOING THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE. Bought my 2014 Explorer Sport with 115k miles for $18K and had it for barely 3 years. The pump went out at 160k. Estimate $2200. Sold for 6k with bad pump.
This is almost as hard to replace as the waterpump on my 2001 honda prelude
First thing to do dont buy a ford
How long is the process in real life ?
Been 3 days so far with me and my dad
Good
Very poor design for a rather easy minor engine part. Ford was still putting these faulty water pumps up until they stopped making the model. Cop shops had to be disappointed in Ford
Who the hell invented that engine?
money hungry Ford, I have a bad water pump and got quoted $2100 to replace I can see why
@@allenrahrooh7140 yup..i need to get mine replaced and i got quoted $2,300🤦🏽♀️
@@BrittneyKeiona best option to find a local mechanic that has good reviews online, I'm in the Orlando, Florida area and got it done for $1500
Idiots designed it. Pure idiots
Devil FORD fix or repair daily!
What a nightmare.
Who at ford came up with this genius idea for a water pump. What happened to the good old external mounted water pump, fuel pump, single coil and regular old plugs and wires. They’re building more and more shit all the time
So glad I went for the crown Victoria not this wth ford
Ты русский?
Sorry but that accent is it really annoying.
Dude seriously? He makes 💯 sense and is clear
Is it?
@Tay46320, seriously?! Maybe English isn't his native language but at least the guy is speaking it and to my point of view he's doing a super job on both how he speaks and to describe everything we have to go through to change this awful designed water pump.
Reading comments like yours is making me think you are the one that is annoying. 😞
tacos tacos ..viva la raza ....panco villa
Yeah, he has an accent and I don't mind it. he speaks clearly and delivers his point. but you can't write, that is what annoying to me. English is my third language, And I find it funny when someone writes "Sorry but that accent is it really annoying." And he or she attacks people for an accent.
