Indigo Park is the newest Mascot Horror sensation! After mostly being blessed with creations from the Euphoric Brothers, and Poppy/Banban clones in the last year, a new face comes onto the block to potentially shake things up a bit. With the perception being unanimously positive so far, Indigo Park in on track to being the latest indie horror hit! But, I still don't think it's without its faults, and in a lot of aspects, I believe this game to be a little underwhelming. So, is Indigo Park deserving of its praise? Well, lets open the gates, and find out.

Also, I would appreciate if you all watch the video first before commenting. You may find I actually agree with you more than you may think at first glance! This isn't meant to be a solely negative video, and is meant to offer criticism that comes from a genuine love and drive to see where this will go in the future. Just keep an open mind while watching, the thumbnail and title aren't a full representation of my conclusive thoughts!

      *cough* Theft King *cough*
But you actually had valid points that glossed over me when I played the game the first time.
I think for UniqueGeese’s first project that’s not garden of banban.
He knocked it out of the park and then some. Watching his videos on his own game he clearly not only loves this game but also the huge community that he’s already built with just one chapter.

The fact that the creator is not only open to the community, but also actively looking to improve with said communities critisms, gives it a much better chance of being amazing than any of the other mascot horrors, as everyone else is so focused on preserving their lore and sense of 'mystery', that they do not ever reach out or open up to the community, leading to very little growth, and most of the growth is not where it matters. Listening to feedback, and actually taking criticism and advice is really really important in the game making process, and is one of the big reasons people originally released games in several parts, or in earlier development stages, but rarely do the creators actually take advantage of the feedback, instead just sticking to their idea and dont let the community that loves their work, help.

8:46 - Holding a flashlight like that is actually pretty common for those who have police/military training since it informs other people that what they're holding isn't a gun. It also makes it easier to explore things with some advantages:
Control: Holding a flashlight with an overhand grip provides better control over the light's direction and movement. This grip allows easy adjustments of the angle and position of the flashlight as needed.
Tactical Advantage: The overhand grip allows quick transition from using the flashlight to other tools or weapons if necessary. It provides a more natural and fluid motion for switching between different tools in high-stress situations.
Safety: Holding the flashlight with an overhand grip can help prevent accidental drops or loss of the light source. The grip offers a more secure hold on the flashlight, reducing the risk of it slipping from the hand.
Comfort: The overhand grip is often more comfortable for extended periods of flashlight use. It can reduce strain on the wrist and forearm compared to other grips, making it easier for officers to hold the flashlight for long periods

The lack of gameplay is a more pressing criticism though since they could've had that in Chap 1. I hope they avoid adding the obligatory 'mascot horror gimmick' but the puzzles should be more involved yeah.

I’m glad to have found this video, it feels like a breath of fresh air almost. I can appreciate the admiration and support fans have for upcoming game designs, because it truly is wonderful seeing indie projects thrive. However it bothers me how quickly fans latch onto mascot horror characters and treat the game as perfect. Truth is there’s no such thing as a perfect game, especially this early on in development. So it’s nice having a video that points out both the strengths and weaknesses of the game without rose tinted lenses or bias. I agree that the way Rambley was introduced as a 2D animation is stellar and the absolute strength of this games marketing, also a well needed spin on this oversaturated game genre. Mascot horror has lost favor in my eyes for a while, but the amount of dedication that is being placed into this game gives me some level of hope. I just hope that the creators take into account that they need to find ways to stand on their own without relying solely on previous successful mascot horror tropes, and will take supportive criticism into consideration rather then overlooking flaws

If there's any criticism that I agree with, it's the notion that this game's a pretty cookie cutter Mascot Horror.
Abandoned place, **the gimmick** to this game, the unnatural feeling that there's a lot more wrong to the place, a crescendo chase sequence, the gameplay being mostly walking with roadblock puzzles.
I guess really the only thing I can say for the future is, don't be afraid to surprise me/us? Or as they always say, "subvert expectations". I get that's not really as helpful but idk...
I do wanna say too btw, I think the addition of Rambly makes this so much better regardless of how many tropes it reuses. The addition of a very talkative character is very welcomed and I think they're a really endearing character to have tag along.

I would say the issue is less the character animation, but rather how sluggish the player camera feels. It reminds me a lot of how walking around as Glamrock Freddy felt. It's fine there as you're not interacting with anything, just walking and looking around, but when you're interacting with stuff, I'd much rather a 1 to 1 camera movement. No matter what I adjusted sensitivity wise, I could never get the camera feeling just right and it always felt either just a little too sensitive, or not sensitive enough. So yeah, that definitely needs work

  • @verylostdoommarauder
    @verylostdoommarauder Місяць тому +15

The main thing that annoys me about this game is the fact that the designs are so good. I understand the logic behind it: If the premise is supposed to be "ooooooh this innocuous children's property is actually 2 spooky 4 me!!1!" then the normal designs for the characters make sense, they fit as children's mascots far better than something like Ban-Ban.
Part of it is the physical versions of the characters that are encountered in game are straight out of one of those stupid Disney parody horror movies. It also reminds me of "WE CAN'T JUST KILL THAT THING, IT'S A BEAST VERSION OF OUR MASCOT"
I understand "the whole premise and subgenre of the game sucks" is in no way a usable criticism, but I feel like it is necessary to bring up. The internet has had a weird obsession over the years with "children's media but scary", Mascot horror only being one part of it. In the few instances where it does really work, like with Angel Hare, I feel like it mostly works because of its subtlety. It's not trying to be a flashy monster movie like Indigo Park is trying to be. Heck, the Abandoned By Disney series of stories, probably a direct inspiration on this game, manages to nail the concept better even with the monsters running around because the underlying concept behind it is interesting.

What if it's one of those flashlights with the switch on the back, where you would usually unscrew to put the batteries in? It could also potentially be a bit quicker to swap the batteries holding it like that, or because the beam shines farther because the flashlight is held higher up.

I genuinely hate that we've gotten to a point where criticism is inherently seen as hatred, or a wish for something to fail, or worst of all criticism of the artist himself instead of the product. It unfortunately is pretty natural, considering how much of the "critic genre" of UA-cam is just contrarian bashing with almost no care for improvement, and how the opposite extreme is just mindless bandwagoning praise without being able to allow any negativity at all... but nothing is perfect, just like there's always potential to be found in something bad.
I am very glad to see a fairly reasonable take on Indigo Park though. I didn't understand why the entire internet was going nutso-butso for a Mascot Horror demo that to me was "fine" but didn't punch me in the face with a hook that set it above the sea of mascot horror games out there. Turns out it was much more the praise for the artist than the art, which is the "toxic positive" inverse of "if you hate the art then you must hate the artist" - assuming if you love the artist you MUST love the art. That isn't true at all. Be constructive with your criticism, but be honest, and recognize that a creator is not his creation, and he will go on to hopefully make more even better creations in the future.
Sorry for the rant, it's just an issue I've noticed a lot in fandom, that you're not able to love the artist and think the art is bad, or hate the artist while appreciating something he made on its own merits. Both are normal human responses, and shouldn't be shamed and dogpiled.

It’s kinda funny that he called it a cash grab even though the game is free and currently only has one official piece of merchandise which is the makeship plush, and that isn’t even gonna be around forever so it’s not like it’s being mass produced like the bootleg ones that have been around long before the game even came out.

I hope some of the people commenting here watch the whole video, especially the end. It’s clear that Daggz admires the dev tremendously. He is critical out of the goodness of his heart because he holds the team to a high standard. Two things can exist at once: you can see the issues a game has and the promise it holds simultaneously.

I feel like Indigo Park's horror does not work on multiple levels.
    1. It's a genuinely fun park with some blood splatters and trashed rooms. The only way the Rambley train is scary is when it assaults my ears with a glitched speaker. Curse Lennart Poettering and his shitty pulseaudio
    2. Linear spaces kill tension if you have more than 2 braincells because they mean you just have to hold shift + W and run to where the game directs you
    3. Most of the lore is barebones and more time is spent on funny shout-outs to Playtime with Percy, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Fnaf, and fucking DSAF than anything of substance. Even though Indigo Park has a gaslit AGI as a tour guide and seemingly biological and feral mascots roam the area. This kind of tech is usually waved away as being transmigrated into the ink dimension, magic living metal, or absolutely nothing in the case of Poppy Playtime. And I am very annoyed when we just have to roll along, because if you want a character-driven horror, you better have an environment and context for them and an answer to how and why their tormentors thought it was a good idea to put a giant lion on stage with the only thing between it and a mauled child being a cheap plastic cuff that plays Rebecca Black's Friday to ward Lloyd off.
    4. Rambley, Lionmaker, Finnley and Mollie the Macaw are very good mascots with many E621 results and good VAs who seem to be the winners of the indie media surge. And Rambley is always there to lighten the mood.
    5. As a result, I am at a complete detachment from my character. I don't feel like some scared urbexer, I feel like I'm in Freeman's Mind and it's just the lack of crowbars and my feelings toward Mollie that keep me from going to town on the nearest living creature, like how I fried Catnap and turned Mommy Long Legs into a liveleak video at the playtime OSHA lawsuit factory.
    6. The final chase is incredibly geriatric and it's usually not a good sign when I feel bad for the monster and want to hug it and end up traumatized not because of the chase but because of its tragic death at the hands of the fnaf security door.

9:49 I could see glamrock Freddy as bubbly and friendly, but how are the others bubbly and friendly? Monty and angry and aggressive, roxy is mocking and self-absorbed (and insecure), and chica is a ditz and hungry.

I think Chica suppose to be a kind and outgoing person, her dialogues asking if we want candy and she wants to call for our parents, she also wants people to be healty and happy.
      -
I agree and wouldn't say Roxy and Monty fit in the bubbly and friendly, but Roxy was suppose to be cool and show kids to be proud of themselfs and how losing isn't that bad, while still having a competitive sense.
      -
While Monty is a "goofy idiot" with dialogues like you can hide but you can't hide, probably suppose to be a calm person, playing golf and interacting with guests(and no, I don't believe the theory he destroyed Bonnie, at max he was controled by Vanny to do it)
      -
I really feel like the 3 where only like that because of a mixture of a bad staff, and the virus(the attentents included, yes, both of them) I really feel all of the bad traits were way small before it happened, I just feel bad for what happened for everyone(at least Roxy seems to be able to get agood ending later?)
      -
Another problem would probably be the bad writting security breach had, I barely need to say it, the amount of videos, posts, concepts, rewrites and more about this game is too much
