I do not own the rights to this music! There are no accurate tabs or play through videos here on youtube so i thought i would help out. Watch on-screen for tabs and gear details! Be sure to tune down a half step.
Here's a short fun bass cover and lesson for you all. Bad's Uvula Who by Green Day, off of their Insomniac record, which is one of my favorite albums of all time! A lot of you may have never guessed it, but Green Day is the reason i started playing music. Grew up with their music and i still absolutely love it.
Mike Dirnt is one of my favorite bassists. Considering 90% of Green Day is just power chords, it would get really boring if the bassist was just playing roots over everything. In this song, Mike uses some simple major chord triads to embellish the harmony. Add this idea into your own bass playing!
Playing my lovely Suhr J Classic Antique here into the new TC Electronic Spectra Drive preamp. This setup sounds so good!!! Absolutely loving it. I went in post and added a little compression in Logic X Pro, but that's about it. Shaved low end off the original recording so you can hear the bass better.

About 15 years ago I was obsessed with this sound. I wanted to mix this with the guitar style of Iron Maiden. Glad to see a fellow metal head respect some good old punk!

Uncle Ben, I don't know if you bought that Spectradrive pedal or TC provided it to you for promotional reasons... but if they did, it worked. I just bought that pedal and I also learned Bab's Uvula on bass (I'm a guitarist). You evil, evil genius.

Hey, uncle Ben. Do you have any recommendations of UA-camrs who make great bass lesson/guidance videos to your caliber? The ones I've found so far are something like my stepdad the day he forgot my mom's birthday. Basically, I haven't found the next Winston Bubbletrousers of bass lessons. I appreciate you letting me know why I suck at guitar, it's been very helpful, but I'm shifting my concentration right now and looking for entertaining and inspiring bass videos to listen to while I'm at work. Thank you!
I came across your lessons many times and happy to see we share the same love for this album. But to the point that its also one of you all tomes favorite ? I was also obsessed with the G3 tone and they are also the reason I wanted to pick a bass and then, (maybe one day), guitar :)

Panic Song perhaps? Probably not the most difficult but it is pretty fast on bass.
Is it just me, or does anyone like Insomniac the most out of Green Day's discography? I personally do. The songs remind me more of a Misfits or Black Flag kind of pacing with a Green Day sound. It sounds more like raw punk rather than what they started doing at the turn of the century with Warning on. IDK, just a random thought I guess.
Jman It’s definitely their heaviest record. I love it so much, but Dookie was such a breakout instant classic that maybe anything that followed it would have been forgotten. Then again, the incredible Nimrod followed. Damn, I gotta go listen to some Green Day.
Not at first but now I totally think it blows Dookie out of the water.
No, Insomniac has also been my favorite album out from their whole discography. Dookie is an awesome album with catchy songs but Insomniac has this "straight forward"-thing that makes you hear the whole album without taking a breath; there is no songs that I like less than the others. The G3 bass sound and melodic role, along with the guitar power chords and the powerful drumming... :))

Sweet. I have one coming in tomorrow. I use the MXR M80 because I like the cleanliness of the preamp. It's distortion feature is mid cut city which I'm not too fond of. Looking forward to trying out the overdrive section of the spectradrive just to give things a little bite.
