Tips for a more relaxing scrap run.
1 - Learn the controls for Improvised Engineering.
    GrabEntity/ReleaseEntity - “R”
EnableRotation - “LMB” (hold) [Rotation controls: Ins / Page up --- Home / End --- Del / Page Down]
    EntityHoldingDistance - “Mouse Wheel”
SwtichHoldingPositionCoM - “RMB” [Switched between picked up face or centre of mass.]
    ThrowEntity - “MMB”
2 - Install "Smooth Voxels". It gets rid of most of the jagged ground and just makes for a much better rover experience.
3 - Pick a direction and keep going until you find a decent place to call home. Ranging out from a base location and back again will enable you to learn some of the topography and will keep the POI spawns around your base, as long as you don't go too far.
4 - Build a better rover ASAP. With a wider wheel base and perhaps 5x5 wheels. Splitsie's rover has the bare minimum for survival but it's not very good (and designed that way), so switch out for a better cockpit, widen your truckbed and reposition your components for a more stable and easily upgradeable rover. More batteries is more betterer.
5 - Unknown signals are really handy to have spawning, containing computers, medium cargo containers, small atmo thrusters, antenna's and various other useful items. Getting those first cargo containers for your rover can be a real pain.
6 - Barrels and weapon racks can be built on your small grid rover and can be incredibly handy to store things early on, especially without much cargo space. And frees up space in your cockpit.
7 - Always keep at least one pair of merge blocks somewhere on your rover at all times, so that you always have a set you can use, even if you've offloaded all your components at a base.
I've currently played about 40+ hours of scrapyard and still haven't found all the POI's, I currently have about 8 small hydrogen thrusters but I'm holding off on going to space until I can find some large Hydrogen thrusters as I've been assured that they are 'out there'. I've also only ever found one large small grid cargo container, but it was only recently and right now it's pretty useless to me as my rover is pretty well established and I don't plan on changing it unless necessary. I didn't find a wind turbine until about 10 hours into my play through and I was desperate for some power generation, running through my supply of hydrogen with my engine. Now my base is festooned with turbines and I grind down any I find now.

AHHH, the grabby hands rotation controls. How did I not know that.

Thanks hhh, so because of the way I have been playing and producing the video, I'm ahead of the playlist.
      1. It take a while but I do get better with grabby hands thanks to the comments.
      2. Not using smooth voxels was a considered decision. That plus earthlike, has made my play an interesting one, there are times when I simply can't reach a signal or have to work out how to get there, it's a nice extra dynamic.
      3. Spoiler - done
      4. Spoiler - done
      5. Like the smooth voxels, decided not to use them, plus next SE series will feature them very heavily.
      6. Haven't needed the extra storage, until I did, but then I had other storage/uses for resources, so it's never been a problem for me, probably luck.
      7. Done
I think I've made some fairly good decisions during my playthrough and feel in a good space, acknowledging I've had a lot of good luck. I almost have enough atmos for a carrying ship (I have other means for aerial recon already), but yet to find a single hydro thruster.
Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions, really do appreciate it.

Really nice suggestions!! I wondered how to use grabby hands like I saw in videos...Smooth voxels helped me a lot as I was stuck at the south pole with jagged cliffs and no light because the sun barely skims the horizon for only 20 mins a day. I have since found a smooth-flat snowy area where I can see for 10km in all directions, so I put my base in the center and its easy to make salvage trips. Still hardly any daylight, but the flat open area is easy to navigate at night.

Watching you reattach the rover to trailer reminded me of Dr Evil in Austin powers 😂

You can grab those large grid cargo crates (like at the petrol station) and attach them to your vehicle with the mag plates to have extra storage.

Haven't been in a position where I've needed extra storage, I get up to the max, but don't feel like I have to leave behind anything I really need. I've been really lucky that I've got most thing I needed just at the right time, it worries me, karma must be coming.

I put my first big battery on a hinge and added a small head and connected it to my rover to get the power from it. Once I had a few I made a large grid rover with them.

I've had to do a power transfusion a couple of times, but all is good now.

Still catching up with this series as I play it myself. I got lucky and found a small grid large cargo at the very first signal. But after my 3rd salvage, I drove around for over an hour with no spawns. I quit and reloaded 3 times traveling further away, but no spawns. I was about to quit the scenario, but decided to use the chat command "/MES.SPI" and it spawned something immediately. Its a little cheaty, so I only use it when I get really frustrated searching, but its a sure way to get stuff in a pinch. I also like using the "Binoculars" mod, especially in this scenario where you spend alot of time looking around for loot and pathways for travel. Only problem is they require an assembler to make which is not happening in this scenario. But I figure spawning a pair in is within reason. Have fun out there!!

If I'm on the hunt, I've learnt to slow down if I feel lag of something spawning in. Much of the time stuff spawns behind you or in a place where if you keep moving away from it too quickly, you'll miss the beacon.

great content. BUT, please stop mumbling. i have to constantly adjust my volume. PLEASE. it is very anoying.

    • @Wellington6012
      @Wellington6012  3 місяці тому

Sorry, I will try, but no promises, that's just me unfortunately. I am aware, I try and edit out most of the mumbling, there is a lot in this scenario with the type of play, there are large sections of travel/work where I am talking to myself, not the camera.

OMFG. make it pretty on your time not ours. make it functional and make it fast. get on with the show.. like your content but u screw around to much, boringgggggg. thanks

I do hear you, definitely not streaming content, I cut out vast amounts of footage already and outcoming episodes I am trying to cut even more, but I am finding it hard to do with this scenario, cant really plan out an episode due to relying on random events, and yes there are still things such as design that are in my control, but even then it's still difficult to decide whats in and whats out. But I take on board what you say and I might need to be more savage. If all else fails, you can always skip a head.
