God, I love Van Morrison! I don't even care what he sings. But, of course, he always sings something beautiful.
“Saint Dominic’s Preview” is not just a song; it’s an invitation to examine our own lives and find meaning in our own stories. Van always makes you think about lift and memories.
His voice is so fresh and clean. Like opening your window after a long winter on a spring day. Thanks guys!!
The Album Astral Weeks is a work of art, done in a week. He just asked they other musicians to follow him and play how you feel it. The song Astral Weeks is a gem.
Yes I love that song
It's on such a spirit level . A lot of his songs can put you in so many different moods
All in a good way of course
He's definitely one of my favorite artists
Nothing like an Irish guy singing R&B.
He was raised a dirt poor Irish city boy - he never had a vocal lesson!
He’s from a country of exceptional singers, musicians, poets and writers!
Peace
CELTIC SOUL!!!
@@coinneachmaclellan3121 I’m an old dude - conceived in Ireland and born in Canada (1957). My father, Alexander Poots, and my uncle Sammy Poots were national champion junior fiddlers and singers in the 1930’s in 🇮🇪. It’s a record you can look up!
Peace - from Winfield, British Columbia! (I’m still a huge Morrison and Gallagher fan!)
From Belfast in other words.
@@fredshred5194 Yes - the “hard stone city” on the River Liffey ! My father called “going pee” as “going to the Liffey! It tells you he was Belfast raised in the 1920’s and 30’s! I STILL say “I’m going to the Liffey” and no one in Canada has a clue what I mean!
lol
Can’t believe you’re doing this.. can’t even begin to tell you how many times, in how many places, in how many circumstances I’ve played this song.. amazing song and a fantastic album.. “I used to be hip and get with the jet set, but they were flying to high to see my point of view “
Right?????? Most people don’t even know this one!!!! I’m so happy!!!!
@@destinyreelly2974 This is one of my favorite Van Morrison songs along with Redwood Tree.
Great reaction to a stellar song! This is one of Van's best albums. 👌
Always loved this song. Top 5 Van for me.
Co-sign the happy shock. One of those songs that makes you happy to be a fan.
One of Ireland’s best. He *sounds* like Ireland. I grew up listening to traditional Irish music courtesy of me Irish mom. If you’d like a taste of him singing traditional Irish music, check out his collaboration with the incomparable Chieftains, Irish Heartbeat. From the upbeat and danceable (Irish dances, mind you) “I’ll Tell Me Ma” and “Marie’s Wedding,” to the haunting “Carrickfergus,” it will fill your soul. ☘️💚
Thanks for the recommendation. I love Van ☘️🍀☘️
This is irrelevant but I didn't realize how short VM is until i saw him standing next to Bob Dylan & looking up to Bob.
I'd say Van is no more than 5'5" 🕊️
This is the real good shit right here.
Nothing but gems from Van the Man 💎🔶🔷♦️
Linger here for a moment, y’all are getting somewhere. He has the best catalog in rhythm and blues.
Van Morrison is super soulful, he has an innate sense of how to connect emotionally to the material without seeming derivative.
This albums opener Jackie Wilson said is one of my favorite songs of his.
I heard about 30 Van Morrison songs before I heard this one. Once I did, though, it became one of my favorites. Thanks for doing it.
There’s a whole book written just on this song - stories of him having a vision of people praying for peace in Northern Ireland in a church called “St Dominic’s’
And one day he opens up a newspaper in San Francisco(I think?) and there was an article about a church called “St Dominic’s” which inspired him to write this classic tune
Yeah you're going to make me pull the trigger on this Marvin Gaye t-shirt I've been eyeing ✊🏿
You have to hear Van ‘s song ‘Wavelength”
Live at the Bottom Line 1978!
It's why he's called Van the Man. Might really like his live performance with on the Band's movie "The Last Waltz"--you reviewed "The Weight" with the Band and the Staples earlier. The Van performance is from the same concert--the whole movie is great. Considered the greatest live concert movie every made (Martin Scorcese is the Director and conducts interviews during the movie!)--Dylan, Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters all do individual songs with the Band.
Live performance of Caravan from Van's movie "It's Too Late to Stop Now" is much closer to the vibe and feel from the original studio release. Last Waltz version is rushed. The tempo is way too fast IMO.
His daughter Shana covers a lot of his tunes, she also served as a backup singer on his tours.
Don't get much better , gents ...loving this groove .
That makes 8 for Van, but you still haven't done a few of his biggest hits, Brown-Eyed Girl, And It Stoned Me, and Wild Night.
But they are the first ones I have ever seen react to this and it is one of his best songs. I've seen tons of reactions to Into the Mystic, Moondance, Tupelo Honey, and Brown Eyed Girl but no one ever does this.
@@88wildcat couldn’t agree more!!
@@88wildcat agreed. I like the deep cuts
I've always said Van sings like he's playing the sax. He uses his voice as an instrument in a more literal way than most singers, IMO.
I should mention that in a similar manner Chet Baker sings just like he plays his trumpet. Clearly see the influence of their instrumental performances on their vocals.
Van plays the sax, also.
@@fan123casual8 Yes. I should have mentioned that, as it was a big part of my point
Van the Man ... the Bard of Belfast ... never puts a note wrong. LoveTupelo Honey and Moondance but His Band and Street Choir has my heart ...
If you want gritty Van - “listen to the lion” as well as many other classics that he’s done.
You guys should react to "Sweet Thing" from Van Morrison's Astral Weeks album. Before that, however, do "Lost Paraguayos", from Rod Stewart's Never a Dull Moment.
He is top 5 greatest of all time . Genius . Spiritual.
I was in high school when this album was released and I bought a copy without hearing a single song. It was a great decision! My wife and I have listened to it at least once a week, over the course of our fifty year ( so far) marriage. Every song is great. The album closer, Almost Independent Day, is probably my favorite song.
Van has so much great material. Sometimes, I will stream his radio channel for a couple of hours and there's almost always a song that comes up where I go..."oh yeah, I forgot. This one too!"
Interesting tune you chose. In my twenties I listened to Van, grateful music
Grateful album. I'm from San Francisco California
There's another good song on. This album. Redwood Tree 🌲🌲🌲🍄🌜⚡🌛🍄
Absolutely one of his best. "Listen to the Lion" from this album may be his best and "Almost Independence Day " is nearly as good.
Listen to the Lion is a gem
My absolute favorite VM song
Redwood Tree lines San Francisco California 🍄🌛⚡🌜🍄🌲🌲🌲🌜
Check out Morrison's song T.B. Sheets from his album of the same name. That song is so powerful it will mess you up.
A very STRONG second for that song, PLEASE. It’s like little else you’re going to experience.
Ahhh yeah ..back to van the mf man Morrison 🔥🔥🔥big dog status!!❤🫡✌️yeah he keeps a gritty edge while maintaining soulful beauty 🎼🎼🎼kinda his thing …instrument voice,he played everything else too!!🎸🎷🎤level s y’all!👍🏽just scratching the surface to! Wait for it
Of the grumpy fellows I have seen live , he is the best . Just the most soulful since Sam Cooke
Redwood Tree 🌲
It starts with a piano on the left. A guitar joins on the right. More snd more instruments get added throughout and then backing singers. But it never gets overloaded. They all fit in his musical boat.
In The garden and Sense of Wonder
You guys are awesome with van
My absolute favorite Van Morrison song. Thanks for featuring it! ☘️
Light one up on the back porch and watch the sunset and que this song 🎧
I hadn't thought about this song in years. That's a straight-up hammer of a record.
Van's arrangements are so tasty!
Wait. Wait. You’re doing my favorite Van Morrison song???? PLAY!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
He always hires the best musicians...
Throw in some country, blues, gospel, jazz, R&B and folk and you have Irish Soul! This is one of dozens of masterpieces written and performed by Van the Man. It's a deep and satisfying rabbit hole. P.S. Check out Jackie Wilson Said and Almost Independence Day from the same album.
Great reaction to another great Van Morrison song!
I love Van and I love this song!
I was reminded of St. Dominic’s Preview when I heard it during season one of The Bear. I’ve heard Van’s music is on a couple of soundtracks!
Van's voice got richer and deeper with age... For a good example, try the song Irish Heartbeat from the album of the same name.
Thank you. New experience. Havent heard this one :)
Listen to the Lion is a good choice. Refers to the Lion of Judah and we know who He is.
This was a great one, as well!
You should check out a couple of Van's vocals when in his Irish band, Them, in the mid 60s, 'Here Comes The Night', 'Gloria' and 'Baby, Please Don't Go'. Van is the man! Cheers ✌
You guys continue to amaze me with the music picks you're reacting to. Van the Man is pretty amazing, isn't he? I saw him in concert in 2020, and he blew me away. He was the sax player in his horn section, played some guitar, sang brilliantly. A great follow-up to this would be "Jackie Wilson Said".
Great tune, van can’t make a bad song
Thank you thank you thank you for this song reaction. It's my favorite from Van from an incredible, but usually overlooked album of the same name. From this album, Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile) is another gem. And if you'd like to hear his funkiest song, check out Cleaning Windows. There's even a live version with Mark Knopfler (super guitarist from Dire Straits) of Cleaning Windows which is incredible!
Oh man you guys have so much Van to hear, crazy love, Madame George, TB sheets……. It goes on and on 👊🏼🤛
Redwood Tree 🌲😊
Hey guys, really enjoying your channel. I had not ever heard this Van Morrison song. Here's a suggestion along the Irish theme. There was this awesome movie years ago, about a bunch of misfits in Ireland, that put together a band. The movie is called "The Replacements" One of the songs in the movie is a cover of Otis Reddings "Try a Little Tenderness" I have a feeling you'd like it. Keep up the good work. Holla from KCMO.
Do you mean "The Commitments?"
Oh damn. Lol. Yes I was mistaken. The movies called “ The Commitments”
‘We’re over in a 52nd Street apartment
Socializing with the wide eyed few
Just to be hip and get wet with the jet set
But they’re flying too high to see my point of view’
Poetry. ❤❤❤
The first 5 seconds had 3 instruments come in individually, great song and album
One of my favorites. An amazing groove. Don’t really know what it’s about but man!
Without a doubt, one of Van's classics! Much appreciated you for doing this! Excellent reaction, fellas ❤😊. And now I am ready to put my eclipse glasses on, and go sit on my porch and watch.
I’ll be watching with you my friend!! 😎
You guys are killing it today.
Listen to the Lion!
VAN The Man !!!!
Songs like this by Van include
Joe harper Saturday morning.. Bulbs..Rough God goes riding..
Thanks for hitting this one!
Love love love this album, every tracks. Treasure, and this title
Song ,just the best
Damn. Great pick, I haven't listened to this one in a long time and really enjoyed it. What ear candy. And his voice on top of it all. Keep going with Van Morrison....thanks guys!
I don't think formal voice training "smoothed out" his voice. He's just not ever gonna go full Ray Charles or Joe Cocker on you, but his voice is his own. He's Van the Man, after all! Thanks for posting this, guys. 👍🏿
ALSO: Check out his Jackie Wilson Said when you get the chance. Another gem!
Bad Company - Live for the Music
St. Dominic's Preview never made it big either as a single or on rock radio, but it stands right with the best of Van Morrison in my opinion. This was from an era of records that were all fantastic. Van was in his prime making this record. I haven't heard it as much as I used to play it, but it still sounds just as fresh as when I played it all the time.
A wonderful album by one of the greats.
Watch him sing Caravan live and you'll get your gritty.
TB Sheets or He Ain’t give you none are two awesome ones too
Very beautiful song ! Thanks guys
I'm into astrology and both Elvis Costello (Aug. 25) and Van (Aug. 31) are Virgos. I feel and hear similarities in their dexterity with words and the love in their hearts (but they can get irritated at life too).
Damn Aug. 25 was my mother's birthday and my birthday is Aug. 2 (same as Jerry Garcia)😄
@@88wildcat Aug. 2 is Leo. Way different from Virgos. LOL
Great music, all the way back to THEM 1960's
right on guys, love to see people find Van that isn't on the radio....dude is just to cool.
Van Morrison is one of the greatest song writers and vocalists of our time... You characterizing this song as a painting, is marvelous. I hope you do a really deep dive into his music. Kingdom Hall, is a terrific song, as well as his album Hymns to the silence. To be honest, so many great Van Morrison songs.
His singing on the song Uncomfortably Numb with Pink Floyd, is stunning!!!
With all that said it is unfortunate for me to say, seeing him perform here in Vegas, about 6 months ago, may have been the most disappointing concert, I've been to...
He not called Van the Man for nothing. I’ve been on the Van train since the 70’s.
Song about Van leaving the troubles in northern Ireland and moving to New York
Spanish Moon by Little Feat
A small suggestion: pull up the song lyrics for your reactions. It makes a difference.
Love me some VM ☘️🍀☘️
Took me on a journey in my mind.
Jackie Wilson by Van
Guys, I lived in LA from '94-'01... In '98, Van, Joni, and Bob were touring together. A good friend bought me a ticket (98.00) to see them at UCLA. Well, y'all could imagine... Joni sang everything, and was an Angel. Van was waxing nostalgic. And Bob's band was on the one. But, couldn't understand a word he was singing... Joni stole the show. NOTHING against Van the Man, or the Blue-eyed boy, but the stars were aligned for my girl.
Van the Man
"Listen to the Lion" from the same album
Redwood Tree 🌲
@@stephansteohanlarsen7457 Has Van ever performed "Redwood Tree" live?
Van!!!!! TB Sheets!!!! & his version of Comfortably Numb wit Waters & the Band
Oh hellll yeah. One of my desert island discs.
My favorite Van album. I listen to it often. His parish church in Belfast was St Dominick’s and he’s sitting on the steps of a St Dominick’s in San Francisco, …”trying to make this whole thing blend.”… A great songwriter! So many great songs from this album. Try “It’s Almost Independence Day.”
Listen to the lion !
Classic track. Cool reaction. Just gonna say... Astral Weeks. Review it. That's all.
Another viewer requested that you react to the Morrison song ‘T.B. Sheets’. I seconded his comment, but don’t want to take a chance on it being missed. PLEASE…do that track. It’s like nothing else that you’re likely to hear. Pure Van, and profound.
Plz listen to Van’s Almost Independence Day 1972 then Pink Floyd Wish u were here 1975. Note for note damn near & Gilmour more or less says he borrows from others what he likes
Redwood Tree 🌲
You have to listen to the lion on this same album
Lots of great cuts from th8s albulm. And, youbv9t a long ways to go to get thru thisncatalogue.
Check out "country comfort" by Elton John
You keep picking straight up
bangers
ahah great voice but you aint seen nothing yet he can do extreme high and low growl lion growl twilight zone high lol// have to say so far you have only done his commercial hits his best songs are not mainstream. but should be mainstream as they are the best. he also does the best versions of everything like 'Shenandoah' ua-cam.com/video/QCIX_zFOmu0/v-deo.html easily the best at that song. many of his songs he channels ray charles his main idol i believe but anyone with soul aspect.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
If you don’t like Van Morrison there’s no way we could be friends
