- Understanding Jean Michel Basquiat is key to understanding why his work is fetching record auction prices. Jean Michel Basquiat was to art what Jimi Hendrix was to music. Watch this video to find out why!

Wonderful as always!
This was elaborate and well mapped out. Thank you!
Thank you 😊
I have recently discovered your channel and enjoy your videos a great deal. I learn a tremendous amount from your concise analysis of the topic, with the added bonus of your wit and humor. Thank you. I have a new appreciation of Basquiat’s work.
Thank you so much for your kind words! "I have a new appreciation of Basquiat's work" spells out my mission! Each time we open our eyes to the genius of another human being, our lives become richer.
I keep getting pulled back into his works for another look. It drives me crazy.
Allow yourself to be crazy then - it is a great feeling, in fact - a privilege! :)
Mark Rothko, Pat Steir, J. M. W. Turner, Makoto Fujimura, Pierre Soulages, and Hiroshi Senju are all artists I find inspiring and would love to see a video from you hearing your take. Basquiat as well as his muse Cy Twombly I've struggled with. Same for artists who follow Marcel Duchamp like Jeff Koons for example. I can't get past the "Kitsch" aspect of it to see anything deeper. That's why I watch videos like yours. To bridge that gap in my education and tolerance.
Thank you for these wonderful suggestions - well noted. And I am very much with you on Koons. I have been focusing on artists that I personally admire, maybe I should try some of those I don't. Material for thought...
Again a very good explanation which helped me to better understand the artist. Thank you! I am not crazy about all works by Basquiat, stylistically speaking I mean, but certainly appreciate his genius. His success, I think, was also due with the crazy times of the '80s and the beginning of commercialization of art.
Very true! And the pressure that came with it killed him. Thank you for your insightful comment!
I like a lot of Basquiat's paintings, but I can't honestly say I've discovered a single one that I love upon multiple viewings. But that's just one person's tastes and opinion at one time.
You make an interesting point here, I think I can say the same. Perhaps the totality of his works can be viewed as one "bigger picture".
Who sold him drugs?.
