I went through the same thing, I drained all the coolant and was able to remove the thermostat , removed a few screws and it comes out, i poured it through the expansion tank and bled the system, there are 3 bleeder ports, on the expansion tank, the upper hose to the heater core and one around the throttle body, I let it run an hour with the heat full blast, i drained the coolant and put fresh coolant, when I was done with this process it ran great and didn't have any problems
I've tried Blue Devil twice and didn't work either time. They wouldn't refund purchase either. I found "Steel Seal" which runs circles around Blue Devil. Steel Seal works in 15 to 20 min compared to 55 min with the blue. If the coolant is getting into the cylinder and causing smoke / steam from the exhaust, those sealers should work. The affected cylinder MUST be firing though. Its a good idea to either change all sparkplugs or at least the plugs in the affected cylinder or cylinders.
cold ratiator hose would indicate that its not circulating, change the thermostat, The blue deveil is a sealant and may have clogged the thermostat as well as the head gasket.
Never correctly filled cooling system then drove it with air in the system and overheated it worse than ever. That engine is toast. That stuff he keeps referring to as smoke is actually steam 😳
The engine tone changed as the cap went on the expansion tank lol that's a big hole in the gasket. Typical of rover all models and an awful lot of uk cars. Cylinder heads made from cheese
I agree 💯. I poured some blue devil that was for power steering leaks... It fixed the power steering leak but I had to get a new power steering reservoir... Clogged it up. Which was cool with me because it was only about 15 bucks. The shop told me I needed a new rack and pinion and I believe all together it was around $1,000 maybe even 1500 dollars worth of stuff that they said they needed to fix. I bought the reservoir for like $15 and the bottle of power steering Blue devil for like 30 or $40
I used blue devil once on a civic. It didn't clog anything and it actually worked! Well it did for about a year so I can't complain. It ended up just doing the headmaster.
Ive done 2 of these. You have to hollow out the Cats to stop the back pressure. Thats what blows the heads on those and jaguars.the cats seem to clogg quickly. Once that is done the engines last forever 2011 jag now has 351,000 miles. I sold both of the 2011 range rovers
I think you inadvertently lowered the boiling point of the water by unpressurizing the system which is why it started to boil after the system was released of pressure. It's not locked so maybe fill it again and run it unpressurized until it seems like the air pockets are removed and the put a new bottle of Blue Devil and start over. I'd remove the thermostat first though so you know water is circulation. Maybe you can remove the thermostat from that old housing and just reinstall the old housing w/o the thermostat for now. Not sure on those if the thermostat can be removed. Worth a shot maybe.
Fine Ground Black Pepper: I have watched friends tip a container of fine ground Black Pepper into their Radiators when they have had overheating problems with leaky Head Gaskets or Radiator cores. A neighbour did it to her old Toyota Van and it ran fine afterwards for 2+ Years when she ended up trading it, never overheated once after putting the Pepper in. I bought a Suzuki Wagon R and it overheated on the way home, percolating the Coolant until it split the top Tank. I had the Tank repaired and filled with Coolant, overheated again, then I remembered the Pepper trick. I bought a Container of fine ground Black Pepper and tipped it into the empty Radiator, then filled it with Coolant. Started it up and ran it to operating Temperature then took it for a 20 minute drive. Problem solved! I sold that Car two years later and the new Owner has driven it problem free for the past year without an issue...
Other than the head gaskets, the $7K water pump timing chain replacements every 70K miles, and the air suspension, these are great $6K cars when running right.
As long as you DON'T listen to Jaguar Land Rover's Oil change intervals of 10k miles and do 5k instead, the timing chains will not loosen.. Unfortunately most of these engines are ticking timebombs to all the used car buyers after those initial Leases are done..

Well, it looks like you and Santa took a trip to Yellowstone National Park right here in the shop! You started with a tour of the hot springs and ended with a view of Old Faithful! Thanks for the video Randy!
I always check them to be sealed AT THE STORE, I almost got taken with a jug of used motor oil! Needless to say I didn’t buy it.., went to Auto Zone! Glad I did, I jug was sealed.
Old man has a good point on pulling a plug. So compression is going to push the blue devil away from the gasket.... but if you pull the plug the compression will take the lesser path of resistance allowing the blue devil to flow into the gasket leak and possibly form a bond.... removing a thermostat will also help with the air bubble issue btw... blue devils website has some interesting tips. Removing a plug being one of them... keep in mind to change the oil if coolant is making it into the crankcase after using blue devil .liquid glass can cease a motor
I've tried blue devil on 2 land rovers and 1 mustang, it only worked if they were sucking down coolant, not blowing exhaust into it. So your saying after engine is hot, because Blue Devil only turns into glass at very high temperatures, that removing sparkplug and running engine will allow it to enter leaking headgasket? Wow I'll try this if you say it will.
My thought Is stuck thermostat and bad head gaskets. Due to these newer motors being aluminum I would say new motor would be the best choice for this one as she Is cooked. Good video tho man.
I agree, I did hear that removing the thermostat first is recommended because that "liquid glass" seals everything including engine bearings if its leaking into the oil system.

I think a new fuel pump and a brand new used engine from J&J Wrecking would get this beauty back on the road. A good detail, new tires and brakes... yea she would be good to go.
Randy, I've never used blue devil... Never been one to think it would work at all, but I've used the Bar’s Leaks, High Mileage Cooling System Repair. It's got like a 2 part mix, and It has definitely helped on my engine, ( 97 Nissan 200 SX, you had Randy, but mine's the 2.0 ) It's not perfect but lot better than it was... I've driven it for 2 years like that now... so I'd say it's definitely worked, well to some extent because before yeah... wasn't drivable at all. Now I just gotta keep an eye on the current level maybe every couple months needs a bit at the most. Friends of mine in the past said liquid glass was real good, but I've never tried it. I know with it you can't have any antifreeze in the engine, or it won't work I was told.

That was one hot video. Fortunately, unlike Mikes video, it wasn't on fire. Personally, I'm a chronic optimist so I think it will run and straighten it's self out. That said, I wouldn't put your last dollar on it but it will make a wonderful follow up video.
I've got nothing good to say about that blue devil stuff plugged every water jacket on a sxs engine I had tore the engine down with pics to show how plugged it was. Had to use my hot tank an hot water pressure washer to get it all out of the engine an ended up fixing it the right way
Percolating Hot Water in a Cooling System: A friend had a similar problem many years ago, turned out to be a stuck Thermostat. So he bought a new cooler Thermostat and fitted it, it was worse! Turned out he fitted it upside down. Refitted it and solved his problem. But it was percolating like a damn Cappuccino Machine before that where the Thermostat was stuck almost completely closed. !
I know I can not afford this range rover, but it would be a great LS conversion project but If I had the money I would consider buying it from you I would love to get a range rover and do a conversion of some sort, 3.5 eco boost also sounds like a great option
Randy, send it back down the road if you’re not going to fix it properly. I have an 11 Rover HSE, the big boy, not the sport. I just went over 100k miles, my owner’s manual says that it’s time to replace the timing chain, if the timing chain breaks, it will destroy the motor, but I do have the 510hp supercharged motor.
Randy those tires are awesome I've been running bfg at ko2s for the last 7 years on my jeep wrangler for the last 7 years and 17 years ago I had a set of them on my old truck and on both vehicles they're awesome in the snow rain you name it they do really well.
What's the point of the baster? Why not just add it to the radiator? I'm having these same exact issues down to the completely dead but the battery pack does fire mine straight up

I just bought blue devil but I think I’m going to exchange it for another product and pay a professional to install it. If I can get at least a year and a half of driving out of it that’s fine with me.

I think I can see a bleed screw in the expansion tank Maybe this cooling system needs to be bled and has a few points air in the system. If so, pour fluid / water into the expansion tank will not remove the air circulating in the system and the fluid will boil.
The struggle with keeping the rover running is real Randy. Sorry to see how this one turned out my friend 😔🎬🚘.Salute AAR & Santa workshop 🎅 😎👍. Ps Randy I have never had blue devil work for me. But I've seen the product work for others. I think someone already used that bottle 🤔.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds yeah you're better off running that thing back through auction, even if you put an engine in it it's a 2011 land Rover, nothing but problems.
That thing is probably done. I don't imagine the windshield washer fluid someone put in the blue devil bottle did much. Need to find a nice low mileage one hit hard in the rear you can buy for the motor.
There are no doubt many people sittin on these piles waiting for someone to show them what can fit in there! Do the swap, sell the mounts as a kit. Retire.

Could the blue devil clog the thermostat?

sounds like a bad fuel pump too
I think is the compressor for the suspention
Could that be exhaust backpressure from clogged cats? Happened to me on a 307 powered caddy.

Randy you know what they say ain't no rest for the wicked
Do you think it might be the radiator? It might be blocked
I like this guy he don't get upset at all I wish I was like him I don't go crqzzy when things don't work out but this guy all he does laugh wow
That engine is toast
Everyone keeps telling me to replace the head gasket lol. It's all aluminum I promise the whole motor is toast. I'd waste time and money doing it.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds I bet you have a cracked cylinder.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds a volunteer for an LS swap lol.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds yeah you're better off running that thing back through auction, even if you put an engine in it it's a 2011 land Rover, nothing but problems.
Do what Westen Champlin would do. Cummins swap it
Definitely either find another motor for it or rebuild it .
That thing is probably done. I don't imagine the windshield washer fluid someone put in the blue devil bottle did much. Need to find a nice low mileage one hit hard in the rear you can buy for the motor.
You got into it so cheap it would be amazing content to ls swap it. 23rd garage just did that to a bmw and it came out amazing
There are no doubt many people sittin on these piles waiting for someone to show them what can fit in there! Do the swap, sell the mounts as a kit. Retire.
Try Sodium Silicate (Liquid Glass).. ive try it for and it worked..
I have same engine. U have air in coolant system. It will overheat until u get it out. I got rid of the jarvik heart thermostat replaced with bullet housing that runs chevy thermostat. Use 95 mustang gt fan blade on water pump and ur overheating issues are over. Ur welcome
