Better than any professional 'How to raise the sails' video I have watched. Why ? Because I am looking to buy a yacht, have relatively little sailing experience and I'm apprehensive about getting the sails up and down by myself. The boat is rigged as yours is but does have an autopilot. Thank you so much for posting this and including your thoughts and self debrief. I can't begin to tell you how much this has helped me making the decision whether or not to purchase.
The format you have is a winner - don't change it either in length or presentation - it's pitch perfect for people in my position.

Hi Howard. Glad it was useful to you. The videos are a few years old now. I’m more experienced, but I still forget dumb stuff. I guess that is sailing for you. Re: trying it yourself, I suggest just pick a relatively calm day and go for it. Not much can really go seriously wrong. It is all in the head.

I sailed a folkboat single handed for years in southern Tasmania. I got used to it . It’s hard work . But very doable. “ up graded “ to a 33 ft Colin archer . Whole different ball game . 10 tons of boat vs 2 . Theoretically it’s the same . By you need more propulsion through the water . To make things easier , have all your rigging come back to the cockpit. And head sails on furlers . I’ve found the bigger boat more difficult but it’s all practice . Good luck mate .

Woefully unprepared for single handed sailing. Forget the headsail!

    hi, thanks for your video.
i m a sailer with not a lot of experience and I would like to ask a question. Is it possible to raise before the jib and then the main sail going upwind? don 't you think it coul be easier as you are without auto tiller?
    Thanks Leandro

It's a good question. Usually the advice is to raise the mainsail with the boat into the wind, but you probably could raise it with a headsail close hauled, and the main sheet loose. I guess there might be a bit of risk that the sail would fall into the water, but otherwise I would think you could do that. Reefing the main sail like that works fine.

Thanks for the video. I just did the same last weekend and raised the main sail by myself, I found it relatively easy because it was quite calm and luckily the yacht I bought has an auto tiller. Different storey getting it down, the wind had picked up and I was governed by tidal flats as where I could steer so had trouble depowering the sail. Ended up sailing a few k's out of the way to get it down but all ended ok. Are you in Australia? I'm in Brisbane.

Hi Paul. Thanks for sharing. Sounds quite familiar :) I'm actually an Australian who moved to The Netherlands. That is where I am sailing in the videos, and explains the accent.
