Anyone who buys a house across from their first love and doesn't reveal it for years, that's beautiful. The ending sux, daisy should've went back to Gatsby. He truly loved her. That other guy shitted on her all the time, poor Leo, he loved that girl sooooo much. And Tobey Maguire was really the only real FRIEND he had, he even thought daisy was selfish because of her standing Jay up at the end, and daisy was toby maguire's cousin In the movie
One of the most cinematically beautiful movies ever. It has an enchanted dream like quality to it, as if the audience is literally peering into Nick Carraway’s memories as he retells the story of Gatsby.
Gatsby did everything for Daisy. He got rich. He built a giant castle to impress her and to be near her. He ran partys in his castle for hundreds of people just to find her. He died for her by not telling that Daisy actually was driving when the car hit the woman. His last word was "Daisy". The last thing he looked at was the green light at her house. Everything he wanted was to marry her. He lived for her. Everything he did, he did it for her. And she didn't even come to his funeral... In fact, no one of the people who always had a great time at the partys came. Nick was the only one. Damn that makes me so damn sad.
Gatsby sealed his own fate by refusing to accept reality. He couldn't bring himself to admit that his love for Daisy wasn't real. She didn't ask him to pursue her; she didn't even know he was living close by until Nick took her to Gatsby's house. Just because they had a romance in the past did not give Gatsby the right to obsess over her and demand that she leave her husband and daughter to be with him.
@@Muirmaiden yeah I agree but I'm still so sorry for him (ik it's a fictional character but idc) THAT he couldn't accept reality, that he couldn't understand that he wouldn't be able to "get" Daisy.
Yet she went after a cheater who didn’t show love or affection she got mad at gatsby for yelling at that cheater of hers. Just cause he yelled at him she got mad from that moment I knew she didn’t love him and who wouldn’t yell he was talking shit about gatsby he couldn’t just sit there and watch him talking shit
@@DPshrBasnet Do yourself a favor and read the book. Gatsby did not lose his temper, Daisy decided to stay with Tom when she found out that Gatsby was exactly what Tom said all along - a bootlegger with connections to organized crime. Gatsby deceived her, not to mention he was obsessed with her and expected her to leave everything (including her daughter) to be with him. He loved his fantasy of her, not who she really was. That's not real love.
@@Muirmaiden that's pretty interesting, put I think we all are talking about the movie and you can't really compare books with their movies, especially because the book is nearly 100 years older
The worst thing I think is as he died, the phone rings and immediately he says “Daisy”. In reality, we find out it was Nick. So to Gatsby, he thought it was Daisy calling him and so he died thinking that she chose him. That’s just heartbreaking...
You kidding? That's PERFECT. Gatsby was the eternal optimist, and here he died at his peak, after giving the "perfect heaven" taste to Daisy and demonstrating the depth of his feelings for her, with his eternal hope still intact. He died perfect, just before he could be let down by hearing Nick's voice instead of his beloved, just before he could witness his junk bond wealth being crushed. He died right on time, heart still flying and hopes springing eternally.
Then why did she bring up his hopes saying she’ll tell Tom she never loved him she says “I wish it could Alwaays be like this” she played him and it’s fucked yo because Tom loved his mistresses more than daisy she cheated on her for so long yea after his mistress died that’s alll he can think about daisy fuck BOTH OF THEM HEARTLESS PEOPLE !
How can this be real love when one is over invested in the other there should be am equal balance. This is why gatsby cannot win her over through wealth because she is not reciprocating the level of love back
Moral of the story is: Leo should stop acting in movies where his love interests are played by English actresses and named after flowers. Also, he should always stay away from water.
@Linda Carmignani, *Moral of the story is that Leonardo DiCaprio should stop acting in anything--period. He looks like he is acting and that is **_never_** a good thing.* *Then again, the entire casting for this version of a extraordinary novel was terrible.*
One of the best movies I've watched. The music, vibrancy of colour, and camera work is amazing. It's such an amazing movie. I cannot describe how much I love this movie in words.
I love Gatsby but he was very possessive. He couldn't accept Daisy's past and wanted to change her to fit into the perfect life he wanted them to have.
@@dee_1655 Well, Gatsby did have his flaws, like anybody else. I do agree with you, though. He was just afraid, and that shows that even though someone may have a kind heart like Gatsby or a life of the American Dream, he is still afraid and has his own negative qualities. That doesn't change the fact that Gatsby was a very genuine man, just like Nick believes, and that he had true compassion inside his soul. Gatsby is probably one of my favorite characters. I really think that Fitzgerald discussed the American Dream in the classic well and throws out that the American Dream isn't everything we need in life. Gatsby did have clear internal conflict despite all that he had. Anyway, just saying. I just read the book, and I did enjoy it :).
The scene where gatsby was throwing his shirts over and down at daisy was amazing. This song was playing and immediately I had goosebumps. So much emotion and so much love between the two. This scene was forever my favorite in the entire movie.
he is by far the best male actor to exist in this generation he always brings such emotion and charisma when he performs its like a real life moment you feel everything he feels in his perfomaces gatsby titanic romeo & juliet the beach the revenant inception just to name a few which are just magical
I didn't love him that much in the Titanic but I fell in love with him in this movie and watched the Titanic and caught up with all of his other movies and I'm in love
Gatsby's story is so sad. He met a girl he loved but distance and war tore them apart. By the time it was over he realized that she was already taken by a man who had everything. Money, looks, power... he was just a farm boy who grew up in poverty. But he loved Daisy so much he worked in dangerous illegal work to acquire massive wealth, then threw lavish parties every single week for years. Just for the CHANCE she would happen to come to one of them. There was no guarantee he would ever see her again. But just for the slight chance he would he did. He did all of it because he loved her that much and believed she still felt the same way. Because she was the only thing in his life that he truly still cared about....
If you read the book you will know that Gatsby loved the idea of daisy not daisy herself, he just wanted to complete his ideal world which, according to him, was incomplete without a girl like daisy( her wealthy background that Gatsby envied when he wasn't rich).
Omg ur Comment is beautiful and true. Let a guy do all that for me, lol. I think daisy felt torn because she had children also with that other Hitler looking guy, so I can kinda understand her dilemma also. But I still would be won over by someone who done something like that for me...he could've just told her, that's the part I hate. But he waited patiently, he knew she'd come one day and he always said you can repeat the past....
I just wanna to thank my 11 grade English teacher.she made the class read and watch the movie. She’s the reason I love this movie as well as the book.Thank you Mrs.K
+BARTHOLOMEW ARMBRÜSTER because its not an original song for the movie, it was made before the movie, to qualify for an Oscar the song needs to be made for a movie
This song captures the themes of the movie so well- longing, aching, ennui, beauty, dreams, wonder, hope, fragility, downfall. Perfect pairing of song and movie. Very moving.
One thing I find very funny is that when tom said Gatsby was working with mobsters and bootlegs is that so called old money comes same way and tom cant have it both ways he can't keep mistress talk about whats right and wrong
@@miraixoxo2505 i watched this movie yesterday and hell yeah i cried, but my friends and i from Russia and nobody of them won't know about it . I'm a very strong boy for everyone. Movie is the best;)))
At least, Gatsby died thinking that Daisy really called him. Even if it was a lie and Nick was on the phone, his heart was free and relieved. Did the author find Gatsby that pitiful ?
I never take Gatsby as inspiration because he left his parents never tried to meet with them again and he is a show off jerk all of the castle, parties for a bitch daisy no fuck. I liked this movie but I never take the Gatsby as a hero role on the otherhand nick carraway was a true friend of Gatsby he was really great
@@KiranSharma64414 I agree with u to an extent....Nick's better bcoz he says,"u can't repeat the past Jay." But Gatsby is totally blinded by love but that's what love is right? It makes people go crazy. But what happened to him was totally heartbreaking.
"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made" ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
I loved the Great Gatsby....It shows how genuine Nick was, a real friend to Gatsby. Daisy and Tom are wealthy and can get away with betrayal and lies. It is an interesting story, it is sad, but it shows that we gotta be careful when we have dreams, make sure they are realistic. But I loved the ambition Gatsby had to make the best of himself. The characters were very unique and interesting. But the Cast, Soundtrack, and everything was incredibly well done!!!
Shakz Rawr Lol he didn't witness anything, are you serious he died over the phone call. And he cannot exactly kill his own cousin, he is not a criminal. He was a true friend who honored Gatsby by writing about him and showing up to his funeral.
***** Maybe because wealth makes some people perceive themselves as above and better than other people because of their stature, Gatsby devoted his life to attaining wealth because the world he lived in would not allow someone poor to be with Daisy. Gatsby been wealthy made him feel there equals and gave him what he needed to pursue Daisy. Its easy to see in the movie that Tom and Daisy's character revolve around been stuck in a web with each other due to the fact of Toms abilities to provide materialistic things. When it was revealed to Tom Gatsby was not the man he portrayed himself to be and had someone else s wealth funding his lifestyle Tom used it as ammo to belittle Gatsby. The wealth Tom and Daisy had made them think they were above the law and better than Gatsby when they simply had the money to get up and go when Gatsby had the rap pinned on him.
People rich or poor can share the trait in their character that they think they are better than someone, its some peoples human nature. The context I was speaking in this conversation was related to this fictional film where the concept of wealth in the film was apart of the plot. People that acquire riches do so in many forms the most rewarding and satisfying been there gift as you say intelligence. Its satisfying to start from nothing and become a success from using your head following a passion. I do believe though we are all equal and no success makes one person better than another. The only way I would use better related to this is a person with wealth could feel better than another person due to success giving them fulfillment which we all search for. No matter what we attain in life we cannot take it with us as we are all here for a short period of time. Intelligence comes in many forms and rewards people with wealth through physical labor or mental labor where human smarts can be used in any job to become rich. There is not one specific type of work to become rich Not every rich person that became wealthy took a massive risk or was very smart. Finally more power to any one in the world that is rich doing well for themselves , people can be good or bad no matter what there wealth is , I believe our stature as a person is defined in our actions of treating ,others money never comes in to it with me.
+Wyatt Bostick shit, i dated a girl who had the middle name of rose, and my aunts name is rose and her husband died, wait SHIT I'M NEXT, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
When i couldn't convince a girl, i was given this book to read. Never touched it for nearly a year. But, something changed inside me and i gave the book a chance. I finally understood that somethings are meant to be like this. You can really like and love something, spend an eternity expecting something back and really end up with nothing.
Lost for words, what a film, masterpiece, the storytelling, the intrigue, acting, setting, and the delivery beyond out of this world! Felt every emotion through the film as if you are there very rare few films do this this!! You couldn’t help but sense that the unconditional unmatchable untouchable love and more that Gatsby had was not mutual or anywhere near and it was heading for a tragic end!
This was the song my wife danced to at our wedding. All I saw was her beautiful face...all I felt was the love we share. It was one of those moments that cant ever be tarnished or ever grow old and forgotten.
"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made..." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
True, if Daisy now wanted to remain with Tom she should have looked Gatsby in the eye and said so instead of just dissapering and leaving him. She OWED him that after all he had done for her
He knew how it would end when falling in love with this one, but he still was willing to start this whole thing with this one with no regreats... ... Sad or not, how could we decide... ... good that they had no kids
Many will not know how many times the book Great Gatsby was rejected. I as well the person who gave the Author his due diligence to give us this Masterpiece. Salute
It's funny how everyone thinks this song is about Daisy.. I think it is about Gatsby. Daisy was after the money and the fun... Would she still love Jay when she knew that wasn't who he is? No, she didn't. He's not "young and beautiful" anymore to her. "Will you still love me when I've got nothing but my aching soul?" fits them so well. She stopped loving him when he wasn't this spectacular person anymore.
I think it is what Gatsby would have said to God, because *SPOILER* he died saying Daisy's name (wich totally broke my heart) and I haven't read the book yet, but I don't think Daisy's final choice were about money; it was to keep clean her own reputation.
lol The song is about fading glory. Lana Del Ray is very into Elvis and Monroe and as time goes on, stars lose their shine. Electric soul is a reference to the rock songs in the 50s as well as all that face all that body refers to the glam of hollywood Monroe was the face of. As Lana ages, she's wondering if her fans will forever love her when all she has is that aching soul, the soul that yearns for all that love of a people who understand. It's a general feeling. It's the theme of Gatsby's love as well as Daisy's tragic vanity and shallowness... cause we are all selfish beings by nature and--god forbid--we all get what we wanted which was a bit of attention.
I think it is about daisy, The whole movie revolves around the money aspect of gatsby and thats why I think daisy has been chosen one, and gatsby met her when she was younger and beautiful..
***** I don't think Daisy cared about the money, she cared about reputation much more than money. Her family came from money and everyone she knew had money so that wasn't a big deal. If you notice, her husband came from a long linage of family wealth. She had that "old money" mentality. She cared about his reputation and how it would affect her reputation. That "old money" versus "new money" mentality still exists. Some people won't want to be associated with you, even if you're a self-made millionaire because your family isn't. She was afraid to follow her heart because she knew that Gatsby wasn't respected and that would tarnish her image.
+JAy Ro Ahhhhh, I had to bite into my fist. How can you dare say this mockery of a performance deserved an Oscar? First of all, it didn't fit the deadlines for nominations in the departments and second of all, Day-Lewis won that year for Lincoln, so every other nominee was really only in the category to make up the numbers. BUT regardless, it was a complete utter shit performance from Leo. His absolute weakest. It might have been because his co-stars were horribly casted, or because Leo is simply not made for the role, but it was a truly limp performance. There was no chemistry between Jay and Daisy, or any genuine emotion between any of the characters. If this performance came anywhere close to even so much gaining a nomination, I think myself and many other people who already have very little hope and credibility in the Academy, would have probably lost all of it if he had gained a nomination.
This is a great movie... I always feel it's stupid to hear people saying it's TOO modernized is bad. However, they are just missing the point of the whole movie. The story behind, they don't understand it. The whole book isn't about how corrupted, or how awesome the background looks like, F. Scott Fitzgerald took only a little time describing how the background looks like. His main focus is on the relationship between people.... How Gatsby was betrayed at the end just make me sad, but sometimes I would think that he deserves it because he can't hold on to his old dream, it's passed, and could never return. The whole book was around the green light, and the green light carried Gatsby's dream, and how he held on to his past. Just like most of us, we held on to what we think matters the most to us, but sometimes we don't know it has gone, and can never return. Be in the present, and enjoy your life. Dream come slow and it goes so fast, so it's ok to still have it, but don't grab it as it's the only hope of the future. Future, always have something waiting on you.
The green light was his reference point; the green light was who he was. Without the green light, no present or future was perceptible or desirable. The green light is the reason why Gatsby was worth the whole damn bunch put together. Remember that the parties were for her; all that creative effort and beauty, all born, cultivated, and uncompromisingly secured, from a memory, carried through a war. Real pain comes from loss. In metaphysics, Gatsby is the figurative depiction, of "the strong force". "AD FINEM FIDELIS." As above, so below.
It is such movies that should never die. The cinematic masterpiece filled with sadness, parties, and romance... Only hopeless romantics get this movie, honestly. To all the old sports out there who love as J. Gatsby.
@@cloud2451 I hope so too, but it ain't as easy as in the movies. It's sad. But as Peter Quill from the Guardians of The Galaxy once said, "Sometimes, that thing you're searching for your whole life is right there by your side all along, and you don't even know it." I guess she's always near me and I don't see her.
@@rebekahfunches6876 actually very true. Daisy was basically talking about how tom(her husband) was cheating on her and despite this, she had to be on her best behaviour. She was smart, she knew he was cheating. A beautiful little fool is not smart enough to find that her husband is cheating on her. She wanted her daughter to be happy.
I think Gatsby was in love with the concept of “love” rather than daisy... He has convinced himself that daisy is the “one” just because she was his first lover soo he built a delusional concept for himself that she is his soulmate... but the truth is Daisy no where near deserves the love that Gatsby offers and offered for her.
Delusion or not she played along with it while it was convenient for her and then when he was in trouble BC of her she left even when he died. Even if his love was more for the delusion he offered her the world and she played him until it cost him his life. He deserved better
You should read the book too it is very good as in the book it shows Gatsby was in love with the concept of Daisy more than her and how he would win her back after being gone and that she loved him and only him and when he realises he can’t have this he won’t accept it and keeps pushing Daisy to leave everything including her children
Every time I read this story or watch the movie it just fills me with this weird empty feeling at the end that stays for hours and hours. It can easily compete with Romeo and Juliet. It has everything that attracts a reader. This world that Fitzgerald created simply sucks you in, then to be torn apart by Gatsby's death and Daisy's indifference.
Rafaela Gomes Caetano Thank you, Rafaela. It's so nice sharing thoughts about this great type of literature with people who share the same love for it!
Today is 31/12/2018 i'm watching thé movie and crying .. Because i don't have some one love me by true & honestly ...... And this movie show thé réal love thé réal emochen .... 💔💔💔
Yes, I read the book and watched the older version of the movie. This one is just beautiful. The 1970s version has great acting but this one is just beautiful visually.
that's the point of the story established rich looked down on nouveau riche. So we beat on like boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past
After reading the book for school, I've just watched the movie, and...wow. This movie was so beautiful and made me so emotional, because something about Gatsby's character and Leo's portrayal of him is just so special. I don't know exactly why, but I seem to have a really deep love and respect for Jay Gatsby, and I feel like none of my classmates felt half as affected as I was by this story/film. The ending will forever break my heart... don't think I'll ever forget it. :'(
I cried at the end of the movie. The most heartbreaking moment is when he got shot :'(((((( and not only that, after all he gave and all the parties he made just to see Daisy, non of the people who came to his parties attended to his funeral! So sad!!....and Nick was the only one who cared :((((
Ameera Dweik So true, Nick who was his true friend even though he didn't know Gatsby. Nick seen how much he cared and loved Daisy even before he was rich. But Gatsby took a bullet for daisy after taking the blame for the accident which daisy caused. But Nick shoulda told Daisy that her husband was cheating on her!
Let’s not forget the genius behind the book and the inspiration to create this masterpiece of a movie:F Scott Fitzgerald he’s the real reason the masterpieces-book and movie exist
Daisy was basically the reason for his death. He lied and said he ran that woman over because he loved Daisy, even though it was really her. She was the reason all of it happened and Gatsby ended up getting shot.. and she didnt come to his funeral. He did all of this for her and she couldn't even mourn his death. Jay Gatsby was the most selfless person in the whole entire movie and yet Daisy couldn't have been more selfish even if she tried.
***** Thats not what it portrays in the movie though. Its like they switched it the other way around. He was gonna say at one point "her voice is full of money" but they cut that scene out
+xXFairytaleSimmer personally, I think that Fitzgerald was heavily critiquing the 20s - Gatsby was this guy who built himself to get the unattainable in this case it was Daisy. He wanted her so much, he died for her. And that represents the peoples want for material, for power, and how that want will lead to their demise.
Gatsby did not officially take responsibility for killing Mrs. Wilson. He hid the car and was hoping that no one would ever find out who ran her over. It was Tom who told George Wilson that Gatsby's car killed his wife. George obviously assumed that Gatsby was driving the car. Depending on how the law is written, it could be argued that Tom could be charged with the murder of Gatsby.
+nrkgalt he was going to. If the police found him he would've confessed to doing it. He just didn't want to, because who wants to go to jail. If he was selfless as people describe him, he would have turned himself in. However, he didn't because he thought of himself.
Daisy was a metaphor. The author used her as a symbol of things we chase, but had all along. I fear your getting lost in semantics as Gatsby did for Daisy… One of the supreme ironies and genius of the novel itself. Cheers!
This movie made me so sad for Gatsby, all those parties for her, but she didn't even care to show any sympathy when he died. He was perfect. I was crying after I watched the movie for a very long time.. More than I should've lol.
+Jennifer G i know i did the exact same that part where he thinks its Daisy calling :( or him and his green light :( fk now im gonna cry thinking about it.. haha
No one shared any care or respect for what Gatsby has done for everyone, except for Nick. Even Daisy ran away from her problems too, not even thinking about Gatsby or leaving him flowers to show respect. Daisy just pretty much used him.
+TKGotRanOverByATruck In a way but that Nick...he's a slippery one. In the book it's so hard to get a read on what he really thinks of Gatsby; I think he wants to like him but ends of being repulsed by him nearly as much as the East Egg elite. And plus when you say what Gatsby had done for everyone...you realise he did everything for Daisy? And even with then it was more for a immaterial dream of Daisy, then Daisy herself. There's a great moment of the book where he meets Daisy's daughter and it really makes him uncomfortable - he can't accept how much her life has changed in 5 years. Ahh what a story, so much depth...
+Edward Till This is because he wasn't in love with Daisy as a changeable and normal person, he was obsessed with trying to recreate the past, trying to make things the way they were before. He was in love with the idea of the Daisy he once knew, but when he had realised that she has been married and had a child, he feels uncomfortable with how much she has changed but still feels the need to possess her and take her back to the way things used to be
The Great Gatsby is one of them movies that makes you emotionally think about it 24/7 for like couple of days and then the obsession disappears but then after a couple of years..... you watch it again the obsession and emotional thoughts come back. Wow this movie is powerful. 0:03 - 0:15 Lana echoing part 😩
I've read the book when I was at high school and shocked by the sorrow of atmosphere which can't be described......this movie with this beautiful song made that age like a dream that you can't never touch...
Daisy wasn't a gold digger, she was born rich and Gatsby wasn't really in love with her, he was in love with the idea of having the old Daisy. She might have had feelings for him but they probably weren't strong enough to leave her husband. It's as simple as that. I feel bad for Nick tho, he was used by every single character in the movie.
It sad to love the old someone.. Sometimes it is hard to realize that and you catch yourself still trying to impress that someone. Poor Gatsby. Poor me. Love sucks anyway
The reason Daisy didn't leave Tom for Gatsby was because she was obsessed with status and power. So although Gatsby was rich he wasn't on the same level as Tom which is why Daisy stayed with her husband. It wasn't about love for Daisy it was about keeping the status she was born with.
Omg I can relate to him. Now I understand! I tried to impress that person so much but in the end she left! I missed the old her and tried to impress her to become my best friend again. Now I realise shes not worth it. I just wish Gatsby realised sooner like i did
@@kiwi377 The feel I got from the movie is that Gatsby lost Daisy because he made it about winning instead of just living a happy life with daisy. When he pushed Daisy into saying that she *never* loved Tom, that's when he infringed on some deep latent feelings that the married couple had for each other and ironically he ignited that spark between the broken couple. I am sure on some level, Gatsby did love Daisy, and in fact he ultimately died because of trying to cover for her.
i think one of the most beautiful things about this film is the manner in which it depicts how quickly the things that seem so important to us will soon become water under the bridge. the hardships Gatsby had to endure, the love between him and daisy, the chase he went on and all the wealth he accumulated simply to win her over; all to end the way it did.
This movie and song are beyond beautiful each time it takes me back to a moment … each women needs to feel what Gatsby felt for daisy! The way he touched her face and looked at her … chills every time and our queen Lana singing just epic 🙌♥️🎶
Sure!! But ugly Hollywood jealous of him: good looking, smart,wealthy..and not fat, white hair,dude..so Eventhough he does 100 characters..perfect..they dont award him..until 1..although he is atleast 5 oscar winner
I watched the movie few years back and just recently read the book... willing to watch it again.. and i know this time it will feel different ...the depth of Gatsby"s love towards Daisy is so immense
Im just glad that it wasn't all tragedy. That he died knowing his dear friend thought of him as "worth the whole damn bunch of them put together" and most of all thinking that the love of his life chose him over her husband, that they could finally be together at last. Also, this song is, I think, 30% of what makes the movie beautiful, no pun intended. The new arrangement and the timing in moments it's played...just wow. The emotions it invokes, perfect.
This is one of the most epic love stories of all time. It's a story we can't forget. And the song. .oh...It's simply an amazing way to depict the whole thing
Growing up in West Egg (Great Neck), you could easily imagine all the parties. My violin teacher’s house was on the water facing East Egg (with a dock) and I remember many times looking across that water and being in Gatsby’s shoes. Such a magical town!
Gatsby's story I think serves as a cautionary tale, about trying to look into the past or making the past your source of present happiness. He tried to reignite things with Daisy, his past love. Despite the fact, she had already moved on and was married. Sometimes glimpsing too far into the past, can be a dead-end and there's a reason it was past.
best introduction to a character in movie history...is when the fireworks are going off Jay Gatsby introduces himself...jaw dropping!!! I love this movie
I loved what Baz Luhrmann did with Gatsby. Effervescent, brilliant, fresh yet a completely true rendition of a timeless classic. It is a movie that I constantly watch again. If you play close attention, you see that Gatsby's death was entirely his fault. Nick tried to warn him, but Gatsby stuck in the past. Do not even get me started on the soundtrack. Sia, Florence+Machine, Beyonce, Goyte, Jay-Z, Will.i.am, Fergie, and of course Lana. Timeless, very much like story The Great Gatsby.
Up until recently, I’d never even heard of The Great Gatsby. My school’s drama club recently performed it, with my brother playing Gatsby himself, and it was absolutely incredible. The Great Gatsby tells such a powerful story, one that can’t be described in words. This story, and the performance my school put on for it, inspired me to really become a part of theater. Now I’m the front of house manager for our next show, The Addams Family, and I couldn’t be more excited.
The year was 2013, I was seventeen years old, life was great. I remember when we saw this movie at the cinema teather all together with my friends, high and drunk. The best summer of my fucking life. Life was only stay with friends, go at parties, get drunk, stay up all night, talking hours about "that girl". There was also my Daisy, she got a boyfriend but she loved me. Just like Gatsby. And the feel was so good, my god. "You can't repeat the past" "Why, of course you can." maybe.....
I can't stop watching this video. The Great Gatsby, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Lana Del Ray are haunting me. They'll be like irretrievable ghosts that I don't want to get rid of. This video is almost haunting as this song, the movie, the book, and Leonardo DiCaprio. And wait, why is Spiderman in the 1920s? But he was good in it, I guess.
Gatsby: Old Sport, I need some assistance in fixing this tricycle? Nick: But Gatsby, I'm not sure I understand? The bike is missing a wheel. Gatsby: All I need is you Old Sport. Nick: Why? Gatsby: Because you're a third wheel.

Anyone who buys a house across from their first love and doesn't reveal it for years, that's beautiful. The ending sux, daisy should've went back to Gatsby. He truly loved her. That other guy shitted on her all the time, poor Leo, he loved that girl sooooo much. One of the most cinematically beautiful movies ever. It has an enchanted dream like quality to it, as if the audience is literally peering into Nick Carraway’s memories as he retells the story of Gatsby.
Absolutely. One of my favourite fantastical movies ever
Have you seen the 1974 version starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow? I liked both movies - but, in my opinion, the 1974 version is much better.

@@filmswithclass7275 ive seen this, ill not ruin my memory of gatsby, by watching the other.
Delusional
Then why did she bring up his hopes saying she’ll tell Tom she never loved him she says “I wish it could Alwaays be like this” she played him and it’s fucked yo because Tom loved his mistresses more than daisy she cheated on her for so long yea after his mistress died that’s alll he can think about daisy fuck BOTH OF THEM HEARTLESS PEOPLE !
How can this be real love when one is over invested in the other there should be am equal balance. This is why gatsby cannot win her over through wealth because she is not reciprocating the level of love back
i dont even remember this being on the book, this movie was just so good and lived up to the expectation

Benjamin Blank so did he really go to oxford then ?
If you read the book you will know that Gatsby loved the idea of daisy not daisy herself, he just wanted to complete his ideal world which, according to him, was incomplete without a girl like daisy( her wealthy background that Gatsby envied when he wasn't rich).

Maybe because wealth makes some people perceive themselves as above and better than other people because of their stature, Gatsby devoted his life to attaining wealth because the world he lived in would not allow someone poor to be with Daisy.

She stopped loving him when he wasn't this spectacular person anymore.
i don't think about daisy when i think of this song.
*****
I don't think Daisy cared about the money, she cared about reputation much more than money.
How Leo didn't get a an Oscar for this I still don't know...
+JAy Ro how he never got an Oscar is what i'm questioning
+JAy Ro oscar is fake. leo is the best
This is why I don't watch the oscars. They are ignorant and unfair.
+azmir aa yes he is
+JAy Ro Ahhhhh, I had to bite into my fist.
Well said. :)

I don't think people got how deep this movie was. just about as close to a visual and emotional masterpiece could be.
Today is 31/12/2018 i'm watching thé movie and crying .. Because i don't have some one love me by true & honestly ...... And this movie show thé réal love thé réal emochen .... 💔💔💔
This is indeed a masterpiece
The actors were mostly great, but the story was horse shit.
Yes, I read the book and watched the older version of the movie. This one is just beautiful. The 1970s version has great acting but this one is just beautiful visually.
The worst thing that when he die she didn't care for him or even attend the funeral
that's the point of the story established rich looked down on nouveau riche. So we beat on like boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past
That broke my heart 💔💔
She's a bitch 😞
hey!! i’m not a bitch 😔😭😂
thats the reason why the movie
Panther I think Daisy knew about it already, but she didn't care. They were both cheating on each other
that's good to know. I didn't know that. I am having a midterm exam on The Great Gatsby tomorrow.. hope it'll be good
your classmates have no heart :,c
lana del ray's voice throws me back to the late era...so fascinating...

Right now
Let’s not forget the genius behind the book and the inspiration to create this masterpiece of a movie:F Scott Fitzgerald he’s the real reason the masterpieces-book and movie exist
He was a drunk
Yeah ikr...the book was so beautiful and I'll reread it
jonathan hynes не Вам человек играет роль как кусок жизни своей, бравот
BlinkingSmiley And you are?
it’s about his life and love for a woman called zelda (daisy). the author is both nick and gatsby.
Even after all these years it’s still so beautiful, isn’t it old sport?
Yup
For sure.
spot*
I thought you deceased
I’m absolutely obsessed with this song (and both the book and movie), in fact it’s probably my favorite!! ✨✨
Cheers!
Does anybody realized that at the end of the movie , it wasn't Daisy who called Gatsby, it was actually Nick.
yes i know dat.
Cause Nick was the one who really cared and loved Gatsby
Да не,Дейзи его Любила.Поймите.
Oui.
yes but that part wasn’t actually in the book, they added it to the movie to add hope for gatsby
+Jennifer G fuck you, you just ruined me the entire movie.
+Edward Till This is because he wasn't in love with Daisy as a changeable and normal person, he was obsessed with trying to recreate the past, trying to make things the way they were before. He was in love with the idea of the Daisy he once knew, but when he had realised that she has been married and had a child, he feels uncomfortable with how much she has changed but still feels the need to possess her and take her back to the way things used to be
Получила прям эстетическое удовольствие, даже не видя самого фильма, спасибо ещё раз за это УДОВОЛЬСТВИЕ
Now I am planning to watch it today
Good way of describing that, fr
Yes true I was so devastated for few days after watching it
I’m addicted to this song, the movie, and book
Me too!
This song haunts me. I don't even remember the J-Z music.
Me too
A minute of silence for the people who are discovering Lana del Rey now
Mehhh😂😂I started to like her
Idk where I’ve heard her name before... But I’m reading a fanfic based on this song
Croissant same
@@croissant1949 what's the name?
I actually discovered her 6 years ago thanks to this movie
I've read the book when I was at high school and shocked by the sorrow of atmosphere which can't be described......this movie with this beautiful song made that age like a dream that you can't never touch...
Daisy wasn't a gold digger, she was born rich and Gatsby wasn't really in love with her, he was in love with the idea of having the old Daisy. She might have had feelings for him but they probably weren't strong enough to leave her husband. It's as simple as that. I feel bad for Nick tho, he was used by every single character in the movie.
Andrea A wait, I never thought about it like that, that’s true though. He loved the OLD Daisy
I am sure on some level, Gatsby did love Daisy, and in fact he ultimately died because of trying to cover for her.
i think one of the most beautiful things about this film is the manner in which it depicts how quickly the things that seem so important to us will soon become water under the bridge. the hardships Gatsby had to endure, the love between him and daisy, the chase he went on and all the wealth he accumulated simply to win her over; all to end the way it did.
being men i really understand the love of Gatsby, but Never understood the daisy,
Love the Great Gatsby because no character is innocent and they've all done bad things as well as good. Very true to life.
This movie and song are beyond beautiful each time it takes me back to a moment … each women needs to feel what Gatsby felt for daisy! The way he touched her face and looked at her … chills every time and our queen Lana singing just epic 🙌♥️🎶
Lana’s voice take my breath away, this song is perfect!
This book, this movie, and this song...they are all perfect. They all can move you to tears Lana Del Ray is amazing.
How Leo has only one Oscar is just ridiculous .
He’s the Goat in my opinion .
The great LEO🤘👍
True masterpiece 🔥
Daniel Day Lewis is the goat but Leo is surely in the top ten hands down
I agree. Every movie this guy does is amazing. He’s one of the best actors of all time...with out a doubt!
Sure!! But ugly Hollywood jealous of him: good looking, smart,wealthy..and not fat, white hair,dude..so Eventhough he does 100 characters..perfect..they dont award him..until 1..although he is atleast 5 oscar winner
@@ildikokiraly9412 ?
I watched the movie few years back and just recently read the book... willing to watch it again.. and i know this time it will feel different ...the depth of Gatsby"s love towards Daisy is so immense
this is the most visually stunning movie I‘ve ever seen
Im just glad that it wasn't all tragedy. That he died knowing his dear friend thought of him as "worth the whole damn bunch of them put together" and most of all thinking that the love of his life chose him over her husband, that they could finally be together at last.
Also, this song is, I think, 30% of what makes the movie beautiful, no pun intended. The new arrangement and the timing in moments it's played...just wow. The emotions it invokes, perfect.
Exactly my outtake on the song as well
This is one of the most epic love stories of all time.
He played Gatsby so good he deserve and award.
I couldn't believe he didn't win an Oscar for this movie but I'm glad he finally won an Oscar
This movie is so sad i cried so much after watching i wish i had a men like gatbsy in my life
Oh yes 😥❤
Me too where do I find a gatsby??
Ha ha ha y
@@livetolove3408 here me
The luck daisy had that no one could have it was rare and I wish I could find a man like him in my life I would want nothing else
Nick was the truest example of a friend
this song elevated their whole story so much more
Gatsby's story I think serves as a cautionary tale, about trying to look into the past or making the past your source of present happiness. He tried to reignite things with Daisy, his past love. Despite the fact, she had already moved on and was married. Sometimes glimpsing too far into the past, can be a dead-end and there's a reason it was past.
the best comment 👍👍
So beautifully said
Amen....you can't recreate nor live in the past
The emotional tone of the song fits extremely well with the story.
The song was played in the movie. The scene when Daisey and Gatsby best friend visit Gatsby's home.
The vibes of this movie are unmatched
best introduction to a character in movie history...is when the fireworks are going off Jay Gatsby introduces himself...jaw dropping!!!
Thetasteofhoney1 "Of course I can, of course I can"
Up until recently, I’d never even heard of The Great Gatsby.
I saw this in the movies when it came out and didnt realize how good it was until much later. It is an Absolute Masterpiece.
"You can't repeat the past"
"Why, of course you can." maybe.....

This novel, and movie broke my soul, and to this day I just feel so empty and sad after thinking of this heartbreaking story.

Фильм потрясающий!!!! Лео непревзойденный!!!! Талантливый!!! Красивый!!!! Настоящий!!!!
Ага!!!
I thought Tobey was good playing in this movie well for a comeback 😊
audrey monroe He was. Just used to seeing certain people play certain parts, I guess
Lilhsa1984 i saw the movie 3 days ago and still thinkin' about it!!
