Just turned 18 and realized that I can finally use the "Open chat" feature in this game, which allows you too say anything you want. Now I can ball out in the commons with my big boy words, and say numbers.
I started playing before I was 13, so now that I'm turning 18 in less than 3 months I don't get access to that and it sucks hardcore lmao

When i was in 3rd grade, some of the kids managed to convince the teacher wizard 101 was a reading/learning game. 😂 We got to play it in computer class when we were supposed to be learning.

Can confirm, went back to it after 2 years because i missed the card battles. In all the games I've ever played, I've never found one with the same style as Wizard101. The nostalgia was fantastic. Even after all this time, the game still holds up!

I had a professor in college that was actually a character designer for Kingsisle, and worked on both Wizard and Pirate 101. He showed us some of his concept art that he developed for the game and also shared art for a scrapped sequel called Hero/Spy 101. Pretty neat stuff.

Wizard101 is actually still decently popular for it's age. It's actually had a resurgence due to the Coronavirus. It used to be less popular than it is currently.

I never actually stopped playing Wizard101. There's been a boom of activity lately because of the quarantine, but even before then it was still fairly active. They're adding new stuff and updating the game even in 2020.

I've been playing Wizard 101 on and off for over ten years. It's a great time killer that doesn't make you want to punch a hole in your screen (until you get to the new highest level dungeons, those are stressful). There is a LOT to do in this game, overall the biggest game of my childhood, and very fun to run with your wizards for years. :) The beginning 20 levels are pretty standard, but after that, you get a lot more to work with in battle!
God, Storm Titan Hammer makes me want to cry and punch a hole in my wall.

I think crowns are connected the account though, not the character, so as long as it didn't delete the account you should still have the crowns, unless you meant something else. But F

Ah Wizard101, so much nostalgia. Even when I stopped playing for a decade, I still kept flashing back to it (I really liked the idea of its magic schools and select worlds in the game) and recently picked it up again. It really is a tedious grind, but charming in its own way.

@@foxysobek8109 He's talking about how the paywall starts too early. Half of wizard city is blocked off to you unless you pay for membership. The first half doesn't give you much, only half an hour. All of Wizard City will give you about 2-3 hours of content, good enough to make a decision on whether or not you want to continue the story by paying for membership.
That's a constant gripe within the community, and at times they *have* done that, but only on a select few weekends.
Yeah it really needs to be opened up though before you hit the paywall. Something right up to before the last dungeon of Marleybone/dog world might be great, similar to the FFXIV approach of giving you a lot of content to let you go through before they make decide on whether or not you want to pay.

KingsIsle is of the utmost incredible absurdity when i comes to paywalls, they dont listen to the audience(unless is something else not including less money for them or something that gives them more money) they have turned a child game into a kinder ripoff. compared to all the worlds they have, i can not process through my mind that they have the balls to not gives the first world free. COME ON HOW MANY WORLDS THERE ARE? THERE ARE MORE THAN 10, if i remember correctly 10 would be half, or really close to it. Not even the tutorial world, NOT EVEN. (this is not hate against you, is just hate against a really wonderful and unique game thrown to shit because of paywalls that never change even tho 10 have passed by.)

If you are smart it can be free. You can earn a set amount of crowns by completing quizzes, and you can enable an option to watch videos to get free crowns too.

There are actually still commercials for Wizard 101 at Gamestop believe or not! I currently work at one, and W101 will regularly come in and out of the commercial rotations on our display screens, and it’s fascinating. The last one I saw was a few months ago (~March 2022) and it was the one with the witch and wizard fighting Malistare from like ten years ago (the animation for which surprisingly still holds up).
The equipments prepaid cards are also still around and are regularly updated and switched out. I think a candy themed one came out about a month or too ago that I have my eyes on ngl. 👀
I’m also a regular player now thanks to a couple friends who also played as a kid. We got talking and decided to make group to play the game together and now we get together on discord once a week to play. It’s made a childhood dream of mine come true to play this silly MMO with a couple of friends who also enjoy it. And now that I have adult money that I can use to spend on anything I want, I’ve got a fancy car mount from the crowns store.

I remember this game had a glitch where rental items (where you'd buy the item, and you only keep it for an hour or so,) could be given an unlimited amount of rental time just by changing your PC clock. So if you buy an item and move your clock an a year in the past, you'd have the item for a year.
Me and my sister felt pretty proud of our selves when we figured that out and started flying around on our rare mounts.
Dude, I love you for bringing this up. I used to do it too. Also the mini game cheats with the (forgot the name of the software), where you played doodle Doug, you punched in file numbers in the software and you just watch him dig, would give you mad gold. Good days, now I have purchased everything in crowns no membership or sub, took me about 400€, no regrets

At the moment they're working at completely overhauling the game, they even completely changed the beginning tutorials, plus the pet system is getting reworked. I'd say now is the best time to either start or resume playing

Its going to be another decade before the game gets a full graphic update at the rate they’re going. And the pet “update” was just hated by the entire community because it made the grinding for gold to make pets even more tedious.
Too bad I made my account when I was 6 and I’m a balance wizard that has so many side quest I don’t know what my main quest is and I didn’t know clothes give you things so I just bought all the low level stuff when I was 8 just because it looked nice and I don’t have anymore money to get anything else
The game still gets weekly updates and I, along with many other players, still play it. It has TONS of new areas since its peak back in 2010.

@@itsjetty5163 Totally correct! They have major updates twice a year but they update, patch and add bits and pieces every week. There are regular events at no extra cost and packs/crown items added for those who want the latest pets/mounts etc. The KI team are very active, as is the game. :)

Raven and Spider created the girl who's name I now don't remember as a vessel of hope and unity between life and death, only for the chains that hold the worlds together (the Polaris intro) to be in jeopardy. Well, I'd love to hear how that goes for you. This thread'll be open and I'm sorry for ranting, it's just too much.

As an original player since the game came out, a ton of updates have been made. I’ve noticed they’re slowly changing parts of Wizard City by updating the graphics and rewriting quests. I have a feeling they’re planning to start promoting again and trying to get new players to join. I loved this video btw! So glad people are still talking about this game.

I still see banner ads on the strangest of websites but the game doesn't seem to be dead by any metric. The player count is still decent, it is still being updated, just sitting as a little time chamber for nostalgia.

I really felt it in my heart when I saw wizard 101 again in my recommended. That game was my childhood and I also played the later Pirate 101 when it came out

I definitely love both Wizard 101 and Pirate 101 and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
As a veteran of playing Wizard101, I've played this game since I was about 7 and stopped playing until I was 18. Wizard101 was genially fun to play as a kid. I had lots of fun playing. I would say the first arc which is Malistaire and the worlds behind Dragonsypre were pretty boring. Once you've reached Celestia the game gets interesting. With new cards and new stats that are brought in such as better accuracy points, defense, and attacks on gears and wands as well as pets too if you decide to have good stats on them towards your journey. Alongside the special stats called Critical, and Critical block. Wizard101 starting to have players dropping after the second age of PVP started somewhere around early 2014 or late 2013 it was released. Due to the fact critical chance is insanely unfair depending on the level of the wizard. The higher level you were, the less chance you would crit maybe if you were an Archmage at a level of 80. And if your wizard is around 55 a grandmaster you would have a high better chance to crit on your opponent than them. The game sooner starts dying out as well. How do you know the game is dying? Well, you can go to your settings and search for a realm to join in. These realms have unique names of certain professors and mons You can join in any realm as long as it is not crowded. These realms back in the day used to be 2 or 3 pages full of players. But now there's probably about 1 crowded server on the first page and 3 or 2 active servers called "normal" (I think that's what they're called) while the other pages have a really small amount of players hidden which server is called "perfect". Wizard slowly starts dying because these "kids" start focusing their life outside of the Wizard world and up forgetting to log back in. I've met about 15 amazing wizard friends which I haven't seen for 4 years on my friend's list. I would get excited to get home and talk to them or hang around their house or friends' house parties or maybe do quests. But now when I log back into Wizard101 in January. For a full month of the 10$ membership I have bought, I have played about 2 hours almost every day to see if anyone that I know would log back in. There's a little marker on your friend's list where I place a little star next to their names to know they were special to me. Once in a while, I would try to look at their characters to see how they looked like, but all I receive is a default picture of a little wizard boy as a picture, not their avatars. As I look at my friend's list, I just want to remove them all knowing that they'll probably never come back to the wizard world.
To my best friends who I'll never see again, Mary WillowWhisperer (Exalted Life Wizard), Zachary LifeSpear(Legendary Life Wizard), Malvin aka Malvini (Champion Fire Wizard), Amy (6 mastered wizards who are all Exalted).
And for those who may look at this message and read this and maybe remember me? My wizard is Dakota StrongHunter (Prodigious Death Wizard), and my other wizard my main is Angel (Exalted Storm Wizard).
There are more things I can talk about how Wizard101 is dying, but right now after the Malsitaire arc, the story becomes enriched with Morganthe arc, alongside Grandfather Spider. Once I finished the 12th world of the storyline called Mirage where you defeat FatherSpider and his evil plan. Then you will enter a new arc in a new world called Empyrea. With the help of a newfound group called the Arcanum a group of philosophical wizards who's technology is way advanced than wizard city invites you under their wing as they try to stop Grandfather Spider and his troubles in resetting the spiral.

I really hate that feature where you can’t see your friends character anymore if they haven’t been active for a while. I only had like a few good friends on wiz and two especially good friends who I’d hang out with all the time, and match clothing. they were quite a few years older than me, I think their names were sophia storm and isabelle fire something? I’m pretty damn positive she was a fire wizard. I hope they are well, and I headass wanna play this game again maybe if I win the lottery one day or something. then I can spend some cash on it
Hey! The School of Life is the best! Theurgists represent! More seriously, we get pretty meh damage in return for the highest accuracy in the game, as well as being the only school with dedicated healing spells that can be used on others. I've been running my Life character since the end of the beta in 2008. Dont go disrespecting us, we're the ones who are there to heal your ass.
Life spell are mostly guaranteed damage. (Heals are good but I die faster then they can heal.)

yes! life is my fav too and I have been playing it for just as long. It's easy to do everything with the school, although time consuming. Like the entire game it is just a matter of playing your cards right.

All I ever did was roleplay, lol. My highest level was a level 30 death wizard. (The majority of the exp was from fighting the kraken)

As a very active player for this game, this game is absolutely perfect for streaming. It requires little concentration while playing it, which is perfect if you want to do something while talking to chat.

Honestly it could only be so great. There wasn't enough things they could really do to expand the game. For wizards you have an endless amalgamation of genres and mythos they could draw from. Theres only so much you can do with pirates
@@onyx_vii7808 it's not like wizards gonna last forever. There's only only so much they can do with that too. If you really think about it you could've and should've done alot more in the game. They just didn't care about it after some months and let it rot. It was only a money maker at that point. Many people have spent more money on there over wizards and for good reason.
The whole battle grid was really not it for me, idk but I just didn’t like it, pirate 101 had a great concept but the grid duel wasn’t it for me, and I think a lot of people. But for wizard 101 the 4v4 duel circle was just really unique and it could be better but it’s intriguing

A couple of my friend's and I actually still play this game every so often. Since we don't play consistently for long periods of time, having the option to buy each individual area as we go through the game actually works well for us. Didn't play for 6 months? Not a problem, I'm still working through the 10$ I spent 6 months ago.

@var1328 you do realize how publicity works right? many, many games are (completely) free to play but make millions on in-app purchases. calling free to play players moochers when the game is advertised with them in the spotlight is like calling bees thieves just because they take flowers pollen. Just like bees, more players are essential to keep the wizard101 ecosystem up, but not everyone has hundreds of dollars to spend on an online videogame that will likely be gone by 2030.
Take a look at a cringe but successful game, Fortnite. completely free to play, makes millions a day. More players = more publicity and more media representation. more publicity = more chance someone willing to pay will stumble across the game. they will likely have friends who want to play as well. if 1 person gets just 3 friends to play, and only 1 of the three pays for things like mounts, dorm housing, etc, then all the money made from memberships not only increases as there are still perks other than locations, but they now spend that same money on other game items. I know this is a long response to a short message but I just find you and your way of thinking stupid so I felt like responding.

While I did start playing wizard when it came out, I still think Pirate101 is better but it doesn't get as much love and updates because they try to pursue too many projects at one time.

Wizard 101 was amazing for the small amount of area I could explore. I loved the combat, the characters, the artstyle, the pets and mounts, the elemental school system, and the overall presentation. There was this one time I was in a battle with 4v4 players, most of us were lower levels. Two of the people, one on each side, were very high level and it was fuckin wild. They were summoning these cards that were like two gods fighting with these enormous summons. I never saw who won because I had to go somewhere, but it’s changed me forever.
This happened to me a few days ago, everyone died pretty much straight away except those two and it ended up being a really close win on our side

I played W101 for a little under a year when it first came out.
Just a couple years ago, (about the time this video happened) a buddy of mine started dating somebody who never stopped. To an almost weird level...
She had several accounts, and would party up with herself because she was just that obsessed with it.
It's a fun game, but I cannot imagine it being that engaging.
