- Good afternoon folks! In this weeks workshop Wednesday I wanted to discuss my pieced together custom lure turner. I recently had several people asking questions about it or how I made it. I wanted to do a quick video showing the simple idea and construction of mine hoping that it will give you some ideas for yours. Thanks for watching and Tackle The Dream!

Nice work! I really like the alli clip idea. I have been down this road as well and can share a few things. Try and get a bearing in the end opposite of the motor. Once you load that rack up with lures I have found that it makes a difference. It makes your motor work less and you avoid the scraping sound that develops after a while. With this clamps from HF, I found that if you get the ones where the tips are thicker they tend to do better. Not sure why those tips vary in size but it is what it is. But I agree, you maybe right to source them from somewhere else. You can go to home depot and get a timer for lights and wire it in between the motor and plug. Mine has 4 settings, 30min, 1 hour, 2 hours and 4 hours. It has worked well for me and fits into a regular lights switch box that can screw into your frame. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see you next one.
Your willingness to be honest and forthright and laugh at yourself on camera is a great way to entertain us...we all screw up projects and thanks for answering my question about whether or not you still use UV....keep sharing Zach..
Thank you for this. In the process of my build and this is really helpful! New subscriber...thanks man!!!
So happy to see you back doing videos. Love all your content. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! It’s good to be back haha
Helluva idea... great work and thanks for taking the time to put this content together!
Good stuff g.
I have been using a disco ball motor for three years. My turner is similar, it had a square rod with magnets on it. The rod is a 2"x4" that was ripped on a table saw to 1.5"x1.5" actual dimension. And the magnets were reclaimed from old computer hard drives. Your magnets look and most likely work better than mine. Magnets from hard drives are so strong that the hemostat clamp snap very hard when attaching them to the turner, which has caused the to pop open and drop the lure, as you know. I must very carefully place and remove lures to prevent this from happening. Other than a few minor things, our turners are very much alike. Strapping the handle of the hemostat with bands is ingenious!
I like that magnet strip design, very useful for quick swaps!
Nice turner. I'll have to remember some of your design elements.
That's awesome that Promise said something
For sure! Thankfully I wasn’t too many baits in haha.
Thanks for this video - as I all ready commented on one of your shorts I love the Idea with the magnets and the pliers and I will definitely copy it 👍🏻
Cool man good idea on the twin clamp jig 👍🏾
Yeah I think it should hold a little better!
Total boat UV clear coat
I tried it an it works very good for me
Great idea with HF magnets. I'm stealing it for my turner. I used a bbq rotisserie motor from Lowes. $20.
I am a rep for a company called Spray Max, and we have a UV-cured Clear and UV primer in an aerosol can. Dry in 2 minutes with UV light.
I am putting things together for my lure making. Now, I have to build a lure drying rack. My question is, do you coat the lure while on the rack, or do you coat it and put it on the rack?
First off that's awesome. Creativity at its finest. Any chance anyone knows where to get that bluegill blank at 4:34 any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Looks better than my drying wheel lol
Yo Parrot Head! What’s up man!? Only thing that matters is if it works haha
Rotisserie motor also works well and easy to source on amazon/Ebay...
I use a tumbler turner from hobby lobby and exacto knife handles
I use the xacto handles too! Works great for those small baits
Yeah I got to get one still so good timing
And yeah your slantted left lol
army navy stores for the hemostats
What’s your thoughts on using KBS clear coat? I’m thinking about switching from KBS to Alumilite UV.
I think KBS works but not as good as Alumilite UV or other two part epoxy resins. Its worth switching!
@@BakerBuilds Thanks!!! Any suggestions on what lights work best?
TrueCoat small batch Epoxy buddy...actually developed by a bait maker
Good stuff?
So if you use alumilite uv, do you have to have your turner in uv light box?
I do not use a tuner with the Alumite. I have seen people doing that but not sure if it’s necessary. This stuff hardens so fast that I’ll just set the bait in for a few minutes and then rotate it manually to make sure all sides get exposed. Might build a rotating one in the future for fun tho haha
Do you have a video on your light box? I would love to know the specs like the lights and other materials you used and measurements.
I am about to build a UV box out of an old AC window unit 🤣😂
I bet that should actually work pretty good haha
What motor is on the turner?
It’s a disco ball motor from Amazon 👍
Doesn't have to be pretty long as it works.
Amen! haha
I’ll send a vid on Instagram
