My Lucky Day! 2 Canadian National Locomotives on a Sand Train
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 бер 2024
- This sand train has 2 Canadian National Locomotives on it, a very rare
treat for us to see here. This train originated in Wisconsin. Was taken by
Canadian National to Chicago where it was handed off to Norfolk Southern
to bring here in Waynesburg, Pa.
This train is carrying a special sand, Northern White Sand which is an
excellent type of sand for fracking natural gas wells. It is called a
proppant because of the sand grains shape which is rounded. It
"props open" the layers of shale which holds the natural gas and allows
the natural gas to flow out more easily. The proppant sand is a mixture
of 100 mesh sand and 40/70 mesh sand which allows the sand to
penetrate better the shale fractures. Proppant sand is less than a
millimeter across it's grain size.
Really cool overhead view of a sand train with a BNSF locomotive
in the consist. Watch here:

You are such a character Dave, your happiness is contagious. Thanks for another great video my friend. God bless
Dave is a smart man let the wife go shopping “ Wife texting Dave ok I’m done “ Dave says I’ll be there soon OMG CN train coming down the rail be there soon 20 mins later 😅
Your welcome Johnny. Appreciate the nice comment and for
your taking the time to check out the sand train show my friend.
This is what keeps Dave young.
I do love trains and railroading Francis. It's really nice to see some foreign power here. All we have ever seen for ever on this line is coal trains, they haul nothing else and only have NS and CSX locos. But when this sand trans loading facility opened now at least we get to see a sand train once or twice a week and they all have some foreign power on them. Thanks so much my friend for visiting to watch the sand train go by.
Nice catch Dave - you were in the right place at the right time. So many good things in this video - Canadian National power, 115 cars, excellent right of way, and let’s not forget the horn salute! I believe Nippon rail is considered to be among the best in the world. Union Pacific has a specially outfitted ship which brings in this rail in 660’ lengths, although I doubt such lengths are used by Norfolk Southern. Keep it coming Dave. We really enjoy it. Just don’t go home without your wife. Ted
I left her once Ted, that was enough will never do that again.....:-)
I saw a video couple years ago on them unloading rail from an
ocean freighter, really cool how they did it. When I have time will
try to measure the rail lengths on that Nippon rail. Glad you are
enjoying the home movies and thanks so much for watching
the sand train my friend.
Sand company from down in my part of the country. Always cool to see. And even cooler to get a little salute from the engineer!
Yes they are Shane. They started this frac sand trans loading
facility last year and it is going really well. I'm looking forward
to seeing a lot more sand trains around here. For ever all we
saw was coal trains on these tracks. Sand trains are special
now to me, plus we see some foreign power on them that we
never saw on the NS and CSX coal trains. Always a pleasure
my friend to hear from you.
Great catch. I Did not know anything about frack sand but now I do. Those locomotives looked smooth and strong especially on welded rail. Rail transport is the backbone of our economy and I think that is why I could watch trains all day. They all have their own story and profile. Thanks, Dave.
Thank you for the really nice comment Mary. You are so right, they are the backbone of our economy. Appreciate very much
your visiting to watch the sand train go by my friend.
More excited than a kid at the county fair!😂 I love that enthusiasm! Hope it never stops🎉
Trains and railroading turns me on Trena. :-) Gotta get excited
about something in life. Really appreciate your coming along
to do some rail fanning with me my friend.
That was fun. Thank you Dave.
Glad you enjoyed 1208Bug. Took the wife shopping again this afternoon, pouring down rain and no luck on seeing a train today tho. Appreciate your stopping by to watch the train with me my friend.
A real good Day!🚂😎 Thanks!
Your welcome Alan and great to have you along to do some
rail fanning with me. This was one cool train. Thanks so much
my friend for watching.
Hello from TEXAS as always!
Good evening JTG, hope you are having a nice evening. Of course
I know it's now better since you got to see a new video I posted.....LOL Thanks so much for stopping by my friend.

Appreciate the nice comment David, glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and watch the sand train with me my friend.
Nice that you caught a couple of CN units. One of my favorite paint schemes. And both of those CN GE's had the "teardrop" EMD windshields. Those are pretty rare birds and getting rarer. Thanks, Dave... another cool train for sure. 🤠👍
Wow that's cool to hear, I did not know that about the windshields, thanks for sharing that with us Scotty.
Dave why do I get the feeling that you LOVE TRAINS ( LOL )👍👍
I cannot imagine why Russell..... :-) Gotta get enthusiastic about
something in life, mine is trains and railroading. Thanks so much for writing in and for taking the time to check out the sand train my friend.
Wow a 115 train on that catch. I think Mrs CCRX ought to go shopping more often. 😊 Glad Wisconsin could help make your day!
Yes I agree Earl. I took her last Saturday but it was pouring down
rain and I didn't have any luck that day. Thanks so much for writing in and for taking the time to rail fan the sand train with me my friend.
Thanks Dave! These are the trains that are most common in these parts (SW Wisconsin). BNSF has tracks on the east side of the Mississippi River and Canadian National on the west side. We occasionally see old BN locomotives and others as well. I'll bet this particular train went right by us as the frac sand mines are just north of us. We have frac sand spilling out of the side of the hill on our property. Maybe I'll do a video on that 🤔
It very well could have, how cool would that be Mojo! Maybe you
can film some of those sand trains sometime too. Thanks for taking the time to visit with us today and do some train watching with me my friend.
I remember the first time I saw a train on welded rail. I marveled at how quiet the train was. Just a continuous hiss instead of the clickety clack. These thigs can sneak up on you.
It sure is a different sound that all the jointed track I'm used to
Greg! Jointed track is a maintenance nightmare to maintain,
but it does have a much better, romantic almost sound when
a train passes over it. Thanks so much my friend for stopping by to do watch a train with me.
You got the "toot toot" salute from Canada ! You're welcome, Dave.
Sure did Roman! Nice. Thanks for taking the time to visit with
us and do some train watching with me my friend.
Good hearing the joy in your voice. Nice video, Dave.

Congratulations on catching this Canadian National lead freight train with an epic horn salute to make the moment even more memorable...

@@ccrx6700 Dave, I hear you about your usual trains being coal. And now sand trains are regularly coming thru. Im in Pennsylvania, too, right near Allentown east of You. In a little town called Northampton. Our town motto is Home of the Concrete Kids as this town was home to the Atlas Cement Co. A subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel, and was the largest cement plant and producer in the world for decades and decades. You can see where my love of trains started, right Dave? And where im at here in the Lehigh Valley there hasnt been a coal train by since i couldnt tell you when. I so miss coal trains and in fact threy are my favorite kind of train! Yes Sir, thank you kindly, Dave....just want to say to you, i really enjoy your videos, all of them, and your response back to me means more than i could put into words right now, my friend Dave. Thank You So much. Your time and effort you put into your videos most certainly makes many peoples lives much brighter! So glad to hear from You Dave. Lastly, i used to own my own Locomotives and a caboose I bought from Santa Fe. And I operated a shortline here on the former Atlas Cement company property for 15 years and my contract ended. I really enjoyed Railroading and now You bring Railroading to Me !! Ha!! Yeah!! Ha!! I LOVE IT! Stay Safe out there Dave! And that autonomous coal car you have is freaking amazing ! C- ya Edward

Love seeing this! We get really fun power on our fracking sand trains, too. Otherwise it's generally just black/white with the occasional BNSF! What fun power to see out here in the East! Fun timing, too - I just happened to see on Elkhart that another 60W is heading your way with loaded sand - today's version has KCS and Union Pacific power! Enjoy!

Awesome! Most of the frac sand in the U.S. comes from here in Wisconsin around the Blair area. Thanks Dave!
I've heard there are around 100 mines in Wisc that mine the
sand Poowg. Glad you enjoyed and thanks so much for writing in and for taking the time to rail fan the sand train with me my friend.
Most of the mines are centered around Blair and tend to go north from there. Several large yards were built just east of Blair along the old Green Bay and Western main. Eastward it goes to Wisconsin Rapids and westward to a junction with the BNSF across the Mississippi River from Winona Minnesota. Large transload facillities were also built to handle truckloads to railcars including one at the end of the line on the old SOO main at Poskin. Back in the early 2000s the GB&W main was slated for abandonment but within a year of discovering frac sand it was upgraded from 85lb. rail to 135 and 140lb.including some concrete ties. Exciting stuff!

CN is a regular sight for me but what I found interesting is that was a 115 car train that was triple-headed rather than distributed power. I would expect it to be a push-pull at the very least. It's setups like this which keep you guess what the next piece of rolling stock to round the corner will be.
About the only trains we see here, coal and sand all have at least
2 and sometimes 3 head end units Crazyguy. Once in awhile we
see a train that has a mid DPU, and those are usually 2 trains
put together. All we see here is coal and sand trains, nothing else.
Thanks so much my friend for stopping by to do some rail fanning with me.
I live in north central OK. We have the BNSF mainline that runs north/south and usually catch Ferromex,KCS sometimes Union Pacific engines. Retired from 7up warehouse that was one block from the mainline.
I've gotten a UP and BNSF loco here on these sand trains and
now CN, am waiting for KCS, would be awesome if Ferromex
one would come but that may be pretty far fetched to think we
will see one of those here Wayne. All we ever saw for ever was
coal trains here with NS and CSX units. When this sand trans
loading facility opened at least we are now seeing some
foreign power, it's special for me. Thanks so much my friend for visiting to watch the sand train go by.
Fantastic catch enjoyed it even though I see CN everyday
Thank you James.
Nice catch Dave.
Appreciate that Scott. Took the wife shopping again this afternoon, pouring down rain and no luck on seeing a train today tho. Thanks so much my friend for stopping by to watch a train with me.
That was a cool catch for you Dave. Happy as larry as we say here. Hope you did not have a problem with your last video.
Thank you Cedarcam. Appreciate your taking the time to do some
rail fanning with me today my friend. VP of our company called
me Friday and asked me to take the Intramotev video down. VP
liked the video, he thought I did an excellent job at promotion,
however what I did not know is, our company and Intramotev
had a prior agreement not to release any information until
the testing phase of the car was done. So, I had to comply and
delete the video, but I'm not in trouble thank goodness! They
ran the first train on Friday with car in it and all went well.
More testing and calibrating and adjustments to do this
coming week.
@@ccrx6700 OK Dave Thanks for the update. I wondered if it was something like that. Sad thing for me is you showed a view looking along the side of the discharge I wanted a screenshot of and some inside the shed. Now I wish I had got them right away. I have a tamper kit on its way not sure when I will start building it but it is best to buy while I can get one.
@@cedarcam if you email me i can send you some pics.
very nice
Glad you enjoyed Jessi. Thanks for taking the time to visit with
us and do some train watching with me my friend.
Cool.
Glad you enjoyed RFM Caboose. Thanks so much for writing in and for taking the time to rail fan the sand train with me my friend.
Nice train there Dave!
Thank you Wilbur. Took the wife shopping again this afternoon, pouring down rain and no luck on seeing a train today tho. Appreciate your stopping by to watch the sand train with me my friend.
Caught a CN train rolling south through Hattiesburg ms last week. Had a buch of containers. Probably heading to the port in Mobile Al
That's pretty cool Chris. This was special for me to see here,
because all we ever see is coal trains with NS and CSX on them.
Sand trains are coming about 1 or 2 a week now with foreign
power on them. Nice. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and watch the sand train with me my friend.
Awesome catch, I have seen some Canadian National units on CSX B774 (empty ethanol) both of the locomotives were EMDs
That's even more special to see CN EMD's! Awesome Met Guy.
It's really nice to see some foreign power here. All we have ever seen for ever on this line is coal trains, they haul nothing else and only have NS and CSX locos. But when this sand trans loading facility opened now at least we get to see a sand train once or twice a week and they all have some foreign power on them. Awesome catch Dave, you may see one CN hooked onto NS, but rarely 2 so yes indeed your lucky lucky day, sand box on wheels. Can truly say foreign power for you.. Awesome..
Thank you Pappy. Took the wife shopping again this afternoon, pouring down rain but wasn't so lucky on seeing a train today tho. Appreciate your stopping by to watch a train with me my friend.
I literally gave Good roll by to a cn 2224 wets bound about 2 weeks ago I k kw can have multiple placards but once again Dave good vid ! Makes me smile and laugh everytime
Really glad you enjoyed Brandon. Thanks so much for visiting to watch the sand train go by my friend.
Changed 105' rail today 2 hours terrace west Os diverging south rail. I had 2 guys and a boom truck love changing rail

Yes I did awesome stuff Dave
Glad you enjoyed Big Mack. Thanks so much for writing in and for taking the time to rail fan the sand train with me my friend.

Watch out for the Bulls,Dave, walking on their track! LOL
A great sighting,Dave!
Next time I walk their track going to take a can of orange spray
paint and a track inspection log sheet Michael.....:-) Thanks so much for visiting to watch the sand train go by my friend.
As kid we use to go for ride with my parents the back way to Waynesburg going through Washington. It is a nice drive and we used to go Ryerson State Park.
Yes that is a nice drive Mike, but far more grown up with houses
now than when you drove it back then. Did you know that the dam at Ryerson is no longer there and Duke Lake has drained? Baily
mine long walled under it and the dam broke when they did. Very
sad..... Thanks so much my friend for visiting to watch the sand train go by.
Cpkc runs these sand trains daily here, they have 2 remote units they build into these extremely heavy trains, surprised they had all the power at the head
It will be awesome if I get to see a cpkc loco here railroaderkev.
The neat thing about these sand trains is they are bringing in
with them foreign power. All else on this line is coal with only
NS and CSX locos. A special treat for me to see CN here. Thanks so much for taking the time to write in and to watch the sand train with me my friend.
You working with a railroad is like having the Fox in the Hen house....grinning from ear to ear.😄
I guess you're right about that Jeff! I do love railroading and trains. It's really nice to see some foreign power here. All we have ever seen for ever on this line is coal trains, they haul nothing else and only have NS and CSX locos. But when this sand trans loading facility opened now at least we get to see a sand train once or twice a week and they all have some foreign power on them. Twice this month I caught the Conrail Heritage unit passing through the Enola Railyard. Can't seem to catch it at a crossing though.
Oh wow how cool is that Dave! I've yet to see it in person. Thanks
so much my friend for stopping by to do some rail fanning with me.
Cool catch and video Dave, Glad we could share the CN with you. I have to take a look at my video footage I think I got this same train out trackside here in town by us in Se Wisconsin. Have a great rest of your saturday.(Steve)
How cool would that be Steve! This train came from somewhere
in Wisc. Let me know if you did catch it. Thanks so much for
rail fanning with me my friend.
@@ccrx6700 Yes indeed and if it came from Wisconsin it went past our place on the CN. Your very welcome also.
Hi Dave great catch . Be cool to see the trans load place. Thanks
Thank you Jerry. Yes it would, I would love to see them loading
the sand also. I do have a video on here in Waynesburg where they are loading the sand trucks out of the hoppers, but it may
be a long time before I post it. Thanks so much my friend for
taking the time to rail fan with me today.
We normally only see the N&S locos hauling frack sand here in North Central PA. Though I did see a couple of BN&SF units once. Nice catch.
It's really nice to see some foreign power here. All we have ever

Now that train passes my area
How cool is that Kyle! As time goes on you will be seeing more
of those sand trains headed here because they are currently
expanding that frac sand trans loading facility here. All we ever
see here for ever is the coal trains so these sand trains are
a real treat and we are now seeing one and sometimes 2 a week.
Thank you for stopping by to watch the sand train with me my friend.
Guy just posted a picture on virtual railfan lounge FB picture out of cab of mines locomotive of cn locomotive waiting. And he said they had 10 more trains scheduled out of mine
