When I bought this LP record, Jackie was a star in EMI, and she made a new LP almost in every month. Only comparable was Karajan. She had ten years of professional career at this record selling, while Barenboim and Zukerman were almost new comers. As for the sound, everything is bright and fresh. Every time I listen to this trio, I remember “Splendor in the Grass” which was directed by Elia Kazan and premiered in 1961. The third movement, especially the last 22 bars, is so nice. I feel like two lovers are talking each other on the background of the sunset lake. Barenboim's piano is impressive as if expressing the sparkling lake surface at sunset, isn't it? It was the year when I entered university, a long long time ago.

While there are many recordings of the Archduke around, particularly the Rostropovich. Mehuhin. Kempff recorded live in Paris. This version just sparkles with spontaneity and youthful enthusiasm and is my all time favourite. Sadly I was not fortunate to hear Du Pre live
Yoko S the Archduke Trio is the finest piece of chamber music in history. Even though Barenboim isn't the greatest pianist, the music still comes out sounding superb
That's funny you say that because I wonder that every time I listen to his string quartets. The late ones in particular. Some of them sound completely modern. His chamber works are really where you see his compositonal genius. He came up with an entirely new style. He wasn't copying anyone. Sure he learned from Mozart and Haydn, but he took it to another realm. Beethoven's music is timeless and will be relevant for hundreds of years.
LunchWithOrca Hardly true. Beethoven usually composed for an entire orchestra & besides little of what is written today IS music & sure won’t be played in 400 yrs.

ATTENTION! IT SOUNDS HIGHER-PITCHED I'm listening this from a remastered CD, because the UA-cam video is badly converted, at higher speed and it sounds higher-pitched. The record player of the publisher is poorly calibrated.
but why is it so long ? Are these 5 movements. The earlier ones are meticulous , hearty full of good tunes and great developments . The slow movement here seemed variations . I'm sure it will become a favorite one day. The best music isn't always beloved initially. Frankck' big piano masterworks took years while the violin sonata came easily.Shostakovich trio could last a lifetime and it would still not be a chore.
Ambiance bizarre, un peu décousue, de beaux moments, mais pas très charpenté, des passages à vide et d'autres avec des émotions... En définitive on ne sait pas trop qu'en penser...

apollomemories73 What about Napoléonic Wars, occupation of Vienna, increasing feel for his deafness and so on? Erzherzog Rudolph was a great lover of music, maybe his admiration to him made Beethoven compose this trio
The only version for me. The passion, the tempo, synergy of the Three. Life-enhancing, and a comfort to me since I was 7 years old.

Very nice indeed thank you for sharing. Beautiful comment
Thank you for your vivid comment with analogies that spring to life and dazzle 😀👍
Thank you for drawing my attention to the beauty of 3rd movement, Truly everyday is a schoolday
Vuelvo a oír este trío y lo disfruto cada vez más, por el trío en sí y por la notable interpretación

The greatest of all Beethoven trios! The 'Andante Cantabile' has a devastating effect on me emotionally, only exceeded by his 'Late' string quartets.
Which one is Andante Cantabile? The 3rd movement? Yes, if so, it is truly fascinating and divine...

The Andante in this piece must be about the loveliest piece of music ever written.
Yes, one of Beethoven's loveliest ❤
People say, the composers compose the chamber music for their own enjoyment and for themselves to play.
This one was beautifully played.
Absolutely the most musical by 3 young budding greats.... beauty beyond words...

Nice surprise to hear the Piano Trio WoO 39 at the end of the recording, after the Archduke!
Wonderful: must have been contemporaneous w/ their TROUT QUINTET video w/ Zukerman on viola!

Could someone perform a great service for humanity and upload the remainder of the Beethoven piano trios recorded by these geniuses in 1970.
@David, exactly. And it'd class up YT, of which it is in sore need. Paz.

What kind of brain must a guy have to produce something like this? And painstakingly write it down for us 200 yrs and on into the future.
